Very loud and hip place. If your looking for quiet and calm. This is not it. Food is different but good. Crafty cocktails are a bit off putting.
Overall very disappointing. Service was super slow. Server non present, non personal. Service sequence with a lot gaps. 2 hours 2 courses. Beautiful place. Lack to attention to details. For the type of restaurant disappointing.
Our oysters were almost gone before we got our bottle of white wine. The server brought the wrong bottle when we were about half done with the oysters, then came and said they didn’t have our wine. By the time he came back with our second choice it was almost all gone. We ordered 48 oysters to start with, added 12 more, so it was a long wait for our wine as you can imagine. All in all this spot is always one of our favorite places! I just was dissatisfied with the time for the wine to come out. This is not a typical experience here...but worth mentioning for the restaurant’s betterment of service.
Love this place though, $1 oysters and their octopus is so freaking delicious. We love Sunday wine specials too. It was my birthday and here is where I insisted on celebrating! Definitely recommend trying Lionfish.
great menu, excellent mix of Spanish style tapas and Japanese sushi... service was attentive, waiter recommendations were spot on...
Our favorite person ever isn’t working there anymore (Brittany)
Perfect place for a special occasion or date night. We had the crispy snapper which was fabulous!
We had a great anniversary dinner at Lionfish. Every dish we tried was interesting and delicious. Fun flavors, good cocktails, and nice service.
We had a wonderful dinner at Lionfish! Every dish we had, from the corn soup to the yellowtail to the brussel sprouts and cornbread was expertly prepared. The atmosphere was equally satisfying, chic yet inviting without being pretentious.
Happy hour is a steal! $1 oyster is in good quality. Definitely will try again!
Outstanding meal. All around. We started with the 1$ oysters for happy hour, and all the other subsequent dishes did not disappoint. Prices were reasonable and the dishes were inspiring.
We would definitely return here!
We arrived almost 30 minutes early for our reservation, and they sat us right away. We opted to sit outside because it was so nice, so I cannot comment on the interior ambience. Outside there was the expected street noise. The tables were close, so we could hear the conversation of the table next to us. The best part was our server. She offered both wine and food recommendations—and not just the priciest items. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and made sure we were able to take advantage of the happy hour prices also. She informed us beforehand that there might be a delay on our oysters because they were shucked by hand as they are ordered. From the wine and oysters, to our entrees, dessert, and check, I did not feel we had to wait too long for anything. Service was spot on. The food is pricy. I love sea bass, but I don’t $65 love it. I had the yellowtail. It was not one of our server’s recommendations, but I ordered it because of the mushrooms. It was cooked appropriately, and the Tozazu sauce it came with was a nice “meaty” flavor, but the fish itself was a little dry. If we go back, I would possibly try the dynamite snapper our server recommended or maybe the sushi rolls. My husband had the scallops, and he said they were good. The house made mignonette that comes with the oysters is a nice change up from the usual cocktail sauce. I liked it. The oysters themselves were good quality, not out of this world, but as expected—no shell shards or graininess. The layered chocolate cake was my favorite, and I’m not even a fan of butterscotch or pecans. It was absolutely delicious though. Very moist.
The only disappointment was that I had indicated on my Open Table reservation that it was for a special occasion, a birthday. There was no acknowledgement from anyone regarding this. I guess I was expecting the usual happy birthday dessert, or even, “Thanks for spending your birthday with us.” Maybe they just missed it.
Food was delish!
Awesome happy hour selection from 5-7pm. Fresh fish.
Our experience was not bad. The food was averrage but the portions were small. We were seated promptly by a hostess that was not friendly at all basically just put our menus on the table and never said a word. Our server was very nice and did a great job managing our dietary preferences. The food was presented nicely. Drinks were over priced and so was the wine. I do not mind paying top dollar for a great experience and a great location and this was neither.
They made my birthday special!
Great food, amazing ambience. Don’t forget to ask for their daily happy hour menu 5-7 pm. Yum
Great setting...solid service...fish entrees are WAY over-priced ($38-41).
We went to LionFish two nights in a row for business dinners, with a large group. Both nights we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and drinks, however both nights had absolutely terrible service. The first night we waited almost an hour to be sat (with many open tables throughout the dining room) so I’m assuming their kitchen wasn’t up to speed yet to handle a full house. Our servers both nights took well over 20 minutes to greet our table and take drink orders. Service continued to be terrible throughout both meals, with little to no attention from servers, unfilled water, missed opportunities to get additional rounds of drinks, and no follow-up after food delivery. The food itself was delicious and was the only reason we even considered giving LionFish a second chance the following evening. Unfortunately though, it appears their poor service was not a solitary issue and seems to plague the entire staff.
Superior service, excellent food, little bit loud for a serious conversation
Food was excellent. Waitress did not care about her service to our table. Two young men were trained to pick up het slack.
Amazing! The food was beyond delicious, superior service, fabulous ambiance!
I have been 4 times. I decided to take some friends from out of town. It was a Saturday night.
The service was awful. The server was new--- TIP to management: Don't put a new server on the floor and not have someone check on his or her tables. There appeared to be no manager on the floor all night. The drinks were off for 2 of our guests. We had to send them back.
A very disappointing experience at a place that was once very dialed in.
Very nice 40th wedding Anniversary.
The food was great, service was so so, and so much noise but definitly come back for steak tataki & Lobster sashimi
Took a customer before a Summer Pops concert, was excellent.
Still waiting for our side dish of Brussels sprouts and zucchini
The female hostesses wore dresses with very high slits with their legs exposed; the male employees were all wearing long black pants. It was oppressive for women.
The server was amazing and the food even better
Sushi was incredibly good and the service was first class. Went with young children 7&8 and they enjoyed Mussels and Oysters
This was amazing!! Delicious and great service and super friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. We will be back for sure!! Highly recommend it for a date night or special celebration as well as just an enjoyable evening out. Five stars!!!!
Great sushi and sashimi and good drinks selection. Outstanding service with nice attention!
Our server was not good. We were at a convention as individuals so needed to split the bill four ways. She acted very put out with having to do that for us and was super unfriendly.
Absolute must when in San Diego Gaslamp District! Amazing food!
Amazing food! AJ was awesome and recommended some great dishes!
My husband and I had a great evening at Lionfish for his birthday. They were very accommodating as we arrived early for our reservation. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. Food was so so good, I can’t wait to come back and try more. Definitely recommend!!
Awesome location and Happy hour. Food and drinks were terrific. Only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because they were not properly staffed with our server. She appeared to literally be covering the entire restaurant and the outdoor patio so flagging her down for additional drinks and food orders was delayed and slow. Aside from that, great place.
Thought this place was amazing. The decor is ✨. Only fault would find was noise level - struggled to have a conversation with my family. Other than that it was beautiful.
“Excellent from start to finish! . . .”
I like this place
It was amazing!! Love the food and atmosphere.
