Food quality was outstanding. My wife is Asian and has eaten sushi all throughout Asia: she commented that the crunchy shrimp hand roll was outstanding. Also b. sprouts and squash was outstanding.
Ambience was very good.

Excellent all around. Wonderful food and ambiance (we sat outside). Varied menu and wine lust, great service! We will definitely be back next time we are in San Diego!
We so enjoyed our drinks at the bar, The bartenders were so friendly and it set a tone for a pleasant experience. The restaurant was very busy so service was a bit slower than most would prefer. But clearly, every one on staff pitches to help as best they can. DH started with oysters, trying all 3 varieties available. The west coast while the smallest were his favorite. I started with the squash soup as recommended by previous reviews and it was delicious. Next we split a sushi roll..the big baller..lots of crab and delicious. There were 8 pieces to the roll. Last we each had king crab from the hot plates section of the menu. It was a small portion but more than enough for each of soup. Butter poached and a treat!! This experience doesn’t come without a heavy cost but we did enjoy.
I should start out by saying that the food was fantastic, and I mean really fantastic. The dishes were creative and perfectly crafted. The kitchen is delivering here and I would recommend the food highly. The dining experience was compromised severely by the lack of service. The manager seated us 30+ minutes after our reservation time and seated many people before us even though they arrived after us. He basically put us in an indefinite hold with no updates. He also had a strange quality of amnesia when we checked back with him. Once we were seated it took a long time for a waiter to arrive and we had glasses well before we had water and wine glasses 15 min before the wine arrived. This place is expensive, has a lovely decor and a stellar kitchen. Sadly the management and service was so stretched that the value felt really poor and at every step there was a sense of uncertainty and frustration that we had been forgotten.
The service was adequate, but not great. As a single diner, I ordered a salad, appetizer, and entree. The entree arrived before I had started eating my salad. I ahd to ask them to take it back to keep it warm,
I observed my waitress provide descriptions and recommendations to a couple near me. I didn't receive any of this.
I asked for the scallops without the pork, which was a mistake. They were not great, and I mentioned this to the waitress. There was no attempt to remediate this,
We had a wonderful time!! The food was great! Especially the squash soup and the strawberry crepe cake!! Our server was adorable and made our night. We are outside and it was a great experience!! Would definitely return!!
Great food and clean
Service and ambiance were awesome! But we only loved about half the food we ordered. Thought i was going to be blown away by the food and that wasn’t the case. For the price we expected better. Definitely paying to eat at the Pendry. But our server was the best and the place was really cool inside
We had the crab leg appetizer, it was amazing, we had 2 of their specialty sushi rolls which were amazing as well (berserker and the surf n turf). Banana cream tart for dessert with coffee, very delicious. Drinks and service were also perfect.

What a wonderful meal to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary! The food was amazing, service fantastic and it was Wednesday, so not very busy. Which was great! However if it was more crowded it might have been too hard to have a conversation. So would take that into consideration when dining here. But that’s the only negative. Super good and hope to go back soon.
The service was slow this time which is usually not an issue here. I guess everyone has an off night. The food was amazing.

My friend and I came to Lionfish to celebrate her birthday. The food was phenomenal! We started off with half a dozen of oysters and were immediately hooked, we ordered a dozen this time around. So fresh and tasty. We got the kampachi crudo, lobster spaghetti, duck duck goose, the baller roll, and big eye tuna sashimi as well. Our server brought a strawberry crepe cake for my friend’s birthday dessert and it was the perfect ending to our meal. Thank you so much!

The service was some of the best I have ever encountered. The food and drinks were fantastic. I looked at all the places in SD and this was the most appealing and it proved to be a fantastic choice. The design of the space as well was wonderful. Can’t wait to stay at the Pendry as well.
My fiancé and I came to celebrate our engagement with my mom and we loved everything about our experience! The lion fish is a spurge that is worth it. Our server was amazing with great recommendations. We hope to be back soon!
Amazing food, great service, and wonderful ambiance!
Food was top notch! Creative, flavorful and perfectly executed! The striped bass was an absolute perfection, and so was the Kuri squash soup! Baller roll, patatas bravas were also delicious!
It was good, staff seemed thin and stressed which is not their fault but service could have been better

Absolutely amazing dinner. Every item we ordered was total heaven. We ended up sharing several of the cold and hot small plates, and there wasn't a single miss. Wild mushroom side was a standout.

The experience was not good. I will not return. Showed up 10 minutes early for an 8:30pm reservation, was not seated until 9:15pm. Had to wait at the bar with a very annoyed and overworked bartender. Asking for a drink felt like I was insulting his mother. Finally was seated after having to ask the host about it. Once seated it was another 30 minutes to place our food order. Ended up spending well over 2.5 hours at Lionfish and it was a miserable experience.
The toro nigiri special was overpriced and very bland. Didn’t even taste that fresh, which is extra disappointing.
Management really needs to step up and improve their staffing levels. It was absolutely atrocious, and I highly recommend you look elsewhere for your dinner.

The person at the Host stand was extremely rude. There was no smile - you could tell even with his mask on. He seemed offended to have to look for my reservation.
Service was slow and incomplete. Had to ask waiter to take drink order, after a 10-15 minute wait. Shared dishes were dropped at our table without serving utensils; had to chase down our waiter to get them. Appetizer plates and utensils weren't replaced with each new food item; again, had to flag down our waiter for clean plates and utensils. Manager walked by our table several times but never stopped to ask how our meal was.
