Best of the Feb 2020 Charleston Eater hotlist! We will definitely be back!
A WOW EXPERIENCE!!! Dinner at Maison was absolutely amazing. The appetizers and the entrees were so delightful looking on the menu, I wanted to splurge and try them all. Common sense prevailed and we settled for 3 appetizers, 2 mains and a dessert along with terrific champagne, lovely white, a Gamay and a sauterne.
The fois gras was amazing and an incredible blend of flavors. The tuna crude was sensational with the roasted pumpkin puree and the mushroom tart amazing.
Entrees were the monkfish and the beef bourguignon. Monkfish was so incredible I ate every last lentil! The beef, I was told delicious as it is not my taste.
For dessert, the Madeleines were divine as was the sauterne.
Service was incredible. He was extremely knowledgeable, knew the ingredients by heart and made terrific wine recommendations.
Maison is at the top of my list!
Perfect boeuf bourguignon and nice wine card. Only the chocolate mousse was not so good but maybe because I use to do my own with French chocolate 😉
First time and will be returning. Enjoyed the mussels, hamburger (Wednesday night only) and the fries. Our server, Mackenzie, was great.
Love the attention to detail and classic techniques within the menu. The bar is gorgeous and the cocktails and wine program excellent.
A very good example of modern twists on classic French cuisine. The small plates were well prepared and was sufficient for two people. One highlight is the plating and presentation was excellent. The server was very knowledgeable of the food as well as what paired well together. Only complaint is the food was very quick paced from the kitchen so had to ask our server to slow the pace. The entrees were fantastic and the in house fresh madeleines were spot on.
The foie gras was spectacular & escargot delicious!!! Service was excellent & ambiance was lovely!
The salmon rillette is "magnifique!". Chicken entree very good but nothing particularly special. French rose wine was excellent as was the attentive but not overbearing service. Restaurant is small and patrons & servers kept running into the other chair at my table but other than that, a great spot for a special night out.
It just wasn’t up to the hype. We had a great waiter, and Vandy tries hard with his ambitious menu and ingredients - but maybe TOO hard. It’s admittedly challenging to stand out in Charleston because of the high density of excellent places
Everything was amazing. Our server was fantastic and everything we tried was superb. We are in town from Asheville and it is hard to find food that rivals what we can get in our hometown but this place is fantastic!
Absolutely amazing! Best meal we've had in Charleston so far and the service was great. It is quite loud if that is not your thing but totally worth it.
Food is consistently excellent as is wine list and service. A pleasure to dine at every time.
Excellent food and service. Madeleines are exceptional. Will definitely go back.
Delicious food and great service. I loved the coq a vin. Definitely worth a trip up King Street.
My only complaint is that we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated after our reservation. I made reservations but still had to wait to get our table. Also please bring back the boeuf Burganoinne. I so wanted to try it
Consistently well prepared food , favorite spot in Charleston !
it was a great night out with friends. Food was delicious, we were bummed they were out of the dry aged duck but our server was super fun and personable and made the experience great for us. We’ll be back
Fabulous dinner. Great wine with good suggestions to pair with food. Elevated use of vegetables...sauces French but not too heavy. We will be back!
Great meal, we will be back.
Celery root tagliatelle was our least favorite- would not order again.
Monk fish, shrimp, foie gras, mushroom tart, escargot all excellent.
Good wine selection
Maison never disappoints. The food is excellently prepared. The Coq au Vin was particularly delicious. Fantastic service and knowledgeable staff and bartenders make it a place you will want to come back to again and again.
First time to the restaurant. Server (Amy) unbelievable. Her personality and knowledge of wine and the menu superb. Fabulous salads, foie gras. Entrees great fish and good wine to accompany .
Cant wait to go back for the duck for 2. We were early and the duck was not quite ready.
Desserts the best.
Noisy bar scene , but the overall experience was great.
The food here is gorgeous classic FRENCH
We had a fabulous mushroom tart for our small plates and the duck/beef hamburger which was delicious.
Great service. Awesome food. First time. We’ll be back!
Always outstanding. Chef Vandy does wonderful interpretations of classic french dishes. Truly one of the best restaurants in Charleston.
Delicious dinner and excellent service. We will definitely go back.
Outstanding food, exceptional service and friendly staff.
Had a wonderful evening. Were so satisfied with the two dishes we had we opted to just finish our bottle of wine for dessert.
The food was great; the service was great! Will definitely return as my wife and I love French-inspired cuisine. Our only concern with the food/beverage is that the wine by the glass pour was not very generous. A couple of minor issues with the physical layout: The booth seating is very comfortable; the individual chairs not so much. One of the two bathrooms did not have soap available. The restaurant is “L-shaped” and the area nearer the bar can be louder than the other seating area.
Andrew was AMAZING at the bar and we actually decided to stay at the bar and give up our table that we had reserved because of him. Unfortunately the special (beef bourguignon) and the shrimp dish were misses. We were expecting traditional prep for beef dish and it seemed lacking a solid sauce and somewhat sparse vs. filling and rich/decadent. We'll be back to give it another shot.
We had the fortunate opportunity to eat at Maison while we were in Charleston. It has a lovely ambiance and great service. Our server was passionate about the menu and her enthusiasm was infectious. The reviews for Maison are impressive but still couldn’t do justice to the creative and flavorful cuisine. The escargot was memorable. We shared monkfish and flounder because we couldn’t decide; each dish was wonderful and we were happy to have experienced both. We don’t normally have dessert but how can you say no to madeleines or chocolate mousse? Both desserts will become cherished memories. The owner visits with the guests, which is always a plus. It was a great experience and we will be back whenever we are in Charleston. Thank you so much for your passion and dedication to cuisine and quality.
Elevated bistro classics on the menu, with touches that make even poulet roti special. Will definitely go back. And the service is outstanding.
Authentic French cuisine with a modern twist--expertly executed!
First time here. Had a great server and food was very good. Will come again.
Our first visit here & it receives high marks! The decor is lovely, the service patient, knowledgeable, and accommodating (Thank you, Mackensie!), the cuisine thoughtful & delicious!
There is a quaint courtyard available for seating should you desire al fresco dining. We enjoyed almost the entire starter menu. The steak tartare is an absolute standout as well as the patê, foie gras, mushroom tart, & moules. The monkfish "chop" is impeccable.
You will not regret giving the place a try & I am certain it will soon be a frequent choice in your dining repertoire.
Great food, great service in a comfortably quiet room, even when full.
Andrew was our waiter and he did an amazing job with his food descriptions and pairing of the wines with each course. I was beyond pleased. Cocktails were also very good. We love French cuisine and Maison did not disappoint, we will go back when we visit again!
Food was good - we really enjoyed the Beef Tartare. My husband got the steak frites and he said the steak was a bit chewy. And someone walked by our table and spilled red wine everywhere - luckily our guest was in the restroom so wine just spilled on the booth and not on him. Other than that - it was a pleasant evening and we enjoyed it! Will go back.
Everything but the frites was great. They were very good American fries, but not quite French enough.
