It was spectacular
The Malahat cafe is a great place to go. We had a reservation for lunch so gettingin was not a problem. The staff are terrific and the food is great. fElt really comfortable and safe.
The view is worth a visit. Unfortunately the place was really dirty. The food was alright but cold.
Probably won’t return.
My girlsfriends and I went to the Malaht Challet for lunch for my birthday. The food was very good. It took a bit of time to get the food but when we got it it was very good.
The tabels are distanced well and the waiters all wear masks. We felt very safe in this restaurant.
View was the only good thing. The fish was watery and not as in juicy. Flies everywhere landing on the food... One found its way into the condiments and they still serve it to us. Their "fries" are wedges that we're nasty. Ordered a share plate for two people that wouldn't feed 2 people. You pay more for the same as a two piece dinner. Cesar salad I asked for custom cause of one ingredient and they can't even do that right. Room was cold and the waitress wasn't really around. Not worth the $65 tab for 2 people. Even the floors and window sills were dirty ... How hasn't the health board shut them down??
I enjoyed the accordion player's music.
I was disappointed that the only vegetarian food was a salad. I thought I would have something German, given it was Octoberfest. But, the pretzels were great!
I found the temperature in the room not very warm. It was only when I was leaving that I noticed the heater was blowing warm air from a ceiling vent. In hindsight, I should have asked for a tea pot with hot water to keep me warm.
Our waiter didn't come around a lot. We had to flag him down.
Great view and lovely ambience. Good for groups and couples. The monster burger is very good, as are the 'dirty fries.
Service was awesome, view is unparalleled and good was super flavorful. Finished with a spinach cake, deee licious!
We chose the buffet. The items of choice were not many but all were very tasty. Love to take visitors here for a good meal and an amazing view!
The view is spectacular, the service was friendly and helpful, the ambiance is average and we only had dessert. The fritter was excellent and the cake looked very elaborate and colourful, like a work of art but with an unremarkable taste.
Our appetizer never arrived. My seafood linguini was lukewarm, the pasta was from a packet and the seafood seemed microwaved. This was definitely not value for money, I expected the almost $30 price would provide me with something a lot better. My husband ordered the meatloaf sandwich, which when served looked like a burger between two toasted slices of bread. His potato wedges looked suspiciously like any frozen wedges you would get at Costco. Additionally, our beers were warm (about the same temperature as my food)
We have dined here three times in 2 years, and despite the view, this was a disappointment. There is something lacking here because this should be a destination dining experience. The rooms are nicely refurbished, but not the out-door deck. The staff could use formal training, and the in-house bakery of delicious cakes appears to be no more.
We will try one more time, with house-guests this coming Sunday.
Due to Covid it wasn’t crowded and keeping personal space was easily maintained.
The steak dinner was excellent.
Lovely position with good choice of food. Patio are is not huge but indoor tables are well spaced.
My husband and I went for lunch. I had the halibut and chips, very tasty. My husband had the bison blue cheese burger with the filthy fries, they were excellent. Very nice setting over looking the inlet.
Service was very good as well. Our server Derrick was very pleasant. We will be back for sure
Great food, really nice staff! An amazing Valentines Dinner with my lady!
Utterly disgusting... do not trust any of the reviews of this restaurant. First off, it is a complete dump. My wife and I decided, hey, the views decent enough. Let’s give it a try... big mistake! I first ordered the chicken cordon bleu, only to find out 15 minutes later they had 86’ed it. I proceeded to order the spaghetti bolognese, my wife ordered the seafood soup, and my son also got the bolognese. Here we go, our spaghetti was sitting in a puddle of water, the meat looked very questionable at best. My wife’s soup looked decent enough to start, only to find out it had raw shrimp at the bottom, her tea that she ordered had chunks of food residue floating at the bottom and...oh ya, she’s 7 months pregnant! The waiter was unpleasant and looked high on something.
Please save yourself a possible trip to the hospital and avoid this dump at all cost.
Attended on Valentine's day 2020. The place was packed and only 2 servers working, plus two assistants who we anticipate were management as they were working only 10% as hard as the dedicated waitstaff. Service was amazing despite being under staffed. I ordered the "special" Valentine's 3-course meal, my husband ordered from the menu for half the price. Husband got an incredible burger and dirty fries, was too full for dessert. I got some lettuce with one strawberry for my appy, 3 (3!) pieces of ravioli as my main, and a couple small cream puffs for the pricetag of $40. Left hungry and irritated that this once great place has cut so many corners; hard to see it being a fine dining option in the future, it will likely just be our regular burger stop.
Dining is a wonderful experience especially if the sun is shining to expose the breath taking view of Saanich inlet.
Hokey Doodle the seafood linguini is great!! The view spectacular and great service during our meal! Will definitely go again!
Great view and really good service. The food is good but can be a bit slow coming out of the kitchen. We ordered burgers and it took 55 mins after ordering for the food to be served on a regular Wednesday evening. When this occurs it would be great if this place stepped it up a notch by providing some bread for the table. There's lots of good meat options to choose from but if you are vegetarian it's pretty much just the salads on the menu for you... I think this place might lose out on a lot of customers because of this (cause if you have even just one veggie-eater in a group of 2-4 people, that might mean they are going somewhere else all together). A veggie sandwich or pasta might make a big difference.
My family has been coming to the Malahat Chalet for a long time. We have always enjoyed the views , service and food, however this last visit was not to the Chalet's usual standard. The views, staff were as amazing as usual but the food was not up to the high standard I have become accustomed. I hope this is a "blip" as we have always felt this was our favorite place to visit.
I will come again and give it another try but was a little disappointed.
Overpriced breakfast buffet. Food mediocre and selection minimal. Service good and view fantastic.
Hello: I had made the reservation thinking it was going to be very busy being Easter Monday. It wasn't. Only one table there when we got there and then later a few more came in. Our waitress was very nice. We had to wait for the others to get there and had to ask for a drink before. We had an appy BUT we all order our food at same time after having our appy. ,, complaint 45 minutes later and only two other tables who did order before us, but that said,,, 45 minutes to get our dinner for four people. Really,, a monster burger and 3 beef dinners,, 45 minutes for simple meals. TO LONG.
The food was very good and the portions were very generous. Our desert of creme brûlée cake was the biggest single piece of cake I have ever seen.
ORDERED CHICKEN POT PIE------IT WAS TASTY BUT THE CRUST WAS TOO THICK. I WOULD
RECOMMEND A FLAKIER TOP CRUST, AND NO BOTTOM CRUST.
View was awesome! Service excellent, nice choice of items on the menu. I only knew about the FitFabulous menu from looking at the website ahead of time; perhaps both menus shoukd be offered by waiter/ waitress.
