Mastro's Steakhouse - Thousand Oaks
New York Strip
I love Maestro's, but the filet was not juicy or as tender as in my past visits. It seemed dry. I was disappointed. The crab cocktail was the best item of the night. It was excellent. I appreciated the birthday cheesecake on the house. Service was very good.
I took my husband for his birthday. The server didn’t check on us as she should have. It took them 20 mins just to bring our drink. I noticed the server asked all other tables if they are celebrating anything but we weren’t asked about it.
Food was delicious. We really enjoyed our meal despite the service.
We had a great outdoor dining experience. We sat in the front and it was nice with the lights in the trees. The food was great as always. Our server was awesome, sadly I forgot her name. Felt very safe and clean.
Good as always. Ambiance was good given the COVID limitations.
I was disappointed with the accommodation of the latest indoor dining shutdown. My reservation was bumped to a far less desirable time. The reason given was new COVID restrictions taking away the INDOOR seating at the restaurant. However, my previously made reservation was specifically for OUTDOOR seating. Whether I made the outdoor arrangement out of caution or foresight or desire to be outside, and whether the other diners made indoor reservations out of convenience or disbelief in the danger or whatever, I do not understand how an OUTDOOR reservation is bumped due to an INDOOR reservation losing their table. The reason given was that the reservations were viewed in the order made. Clearly unfair. When I questioned a manager who randomly came by our table to ask how things were with our evening, he was rude, taking an "offense is the best defense" approach, citing COVID. I expect more from a high end place!
We had never been here before and were looking forward to a nice birthday dinner.
I had looked online for the menu ahead of time and was sold on the French onion soup and scalloped potatoes. Both were not on the menu when we arrived. This may have been a Covid casualty, I don’t know. I ordered the New York médium-medium well and my husband ordered a bone in rib eye medium-rare. Our appetizers were good. Salad and lobster bisque. The steaks came and my husbands was cooked perfectly but he said it lacked flavor. Mine came and was completely gray all the way through. Having converted to pink meat in my young adulthood, I still ate my steak because I had eaten many a well-done steak in my day. It was acceptable, but not for the price. The sides were good - I don’t recommend going crispy on the French fried potatoes. Garlic mashed potatoes were not filled with a garlic flavor, which was fine for me, but if you like garlic there definitely wasn’t enough for you. The star of the show was the butter cake for dessert, which we devoured.
Overall it was a pleasant meal, the server was very helpful (sent back our fries and didn’t make us feel weird about it), and the butter cake was a birthday surprise ordered by her. Some of the larger parties were loud but that didn’t take away from our experience.
My biggest reason for not recommending it highly is that for the price of that meal, we expected solidly phenomenal steaks and memorably good sides. We probably won’t go again, and will try out some other local steakhouses instead.
Our server Brittany was a pleasure. Attentive without being intrusive. The food was great as always. The only done side was they didn't have the Key Lime pie.
I’m not sure who dropped the ball here but I made a reservation for a table inside on open table I arrive and they didn’t have my reservation said I don’t know who made the mistake here either Mastro’s or open table but either way it wasn’t what I expected
Awesome service and still amazing food. Great job as respects Covid 19 protocol.
Best steakhouse in the area! They do an excellent job of managing the restaurant during Covid19. Steaks are always cooked to order perfection, our favorite is sharing the porterhouse. The Chef cuts it and it is served with the bone in the center of the table. The Dungeness Crab cocktail is a favorite, and the service portion is worth the splurge. The side dishes are always good, and always hard to narrow down which ones we will order. Our fantastic server, Brittney, suggested we do a half order of the fries. Thank you - it is perfectly sized for two people, in fact plentiful. As for Brittney, she is a gem - you will be very happy if you are seated in her section. She is personable, attentive without being intrusive and makes certain that we were taken care of and happy thoughout the dining experience. Kudo's to Matthew at the reception desk, he accommodated our special request - thank you. Honestly, Mastro's Thousand Oaks is a wonderful dining experience. We will be so happy when restrictions allow the entertainment to return. Its a classy steakhouse with exceptional quality food, classically prepared to order and service with Brittney makes it an evening to enjoy. OH - and we actually found a reasonable and quality wine on the list tonight. Sometimes the wine pricing is a bit much here.
We always enjoy Mastro‘s , The food service is usually on point , The problem was in the end of the meal when we requested to check it took the waitress proximately 30 minutes to bring the billWaiting for this was a long time and very annoying
Went to celebrate our daughter-in-law’s birthday. The food was amazing! Everyone loved what they ordered. The staff was so friendly and accommodating!
We were there to celebrate my parents 65th anniversary. And had a wonderful experience. The food and service were outstanding.
Love dining here. I come 2-3 times a year. Service and food is always excellent. Chefs cut rib eye is my go to. Mac and cheese and sautéed shrimp are delicious.
Thank you for a great evening. Even during these unprecedented times Mastros delivered a great birthday dinner.
My favorite location in all of Southern California
For the amount it cost for the items on this menu, it didn’t look as nice. Music would have helped.
Raymond our server was awesome as usual.
However, food didn't quite seem up to par and expectations there.
I was super disappointed in our waiter. I can't believe I'm even saying this, because we've LOVED our waiters for the past 15+ years, but I was in shock at this one. She was nice, don't get me wrong, but I specifically ordered the center cut of salmon and ended up getting the thin end piece. I told her that I ordered the center cut and she said "oh sorry" and walked away. She didn't offer to take it and bring me what I ordered. I was literally in shock. I had to wait for her to come back to the table to exchange it. Anyway, after waiting for her to return, get a new one started, and return again, everyone else was almost finished eating and I had lost my appetite. I can't believe that I told her the wrong piece arrived and she didn't try to fix it. This is not Mastros service that I have loved so much over the years. It made me sad, especially now with everything going on in the world. We've only left our house (for dinner, at a restaurant) a few times in the last 8 months (due to being scared about corona) and it was to go to Mastros.......so disappointed is best way to put my feelings right now 😔
We try to support our restaurants in this difficult time and continue to frequently enjoy Mastro’s. Usually superb, tonight’s dining experience was very disappointing. I say nothing about ambience because of Covid regulations, that’s not their fault. The food was great as usual, but the service from our waiter was terrible. First of all, his manner was dry and almost like we were bothering him being there. What really got me, however, was that he almost never came to our table to check if we needed anything. I finished my cocktail shortly after ordering our appetizers and dinner and I wanted another, but we never saw him again until it was time to ask about dessert. By then, I didn’t want it anymore. Then we waited another 20 minutes before I finally flagged him down for the check. He just left us out there hanging. Very disappointing considering their usually great service.
The Covid over/regulation forced us out of the indoor seating into a tent in parking lot. Temperature fluctuated, it was noisy, the seats were uncomfortable.
The food and drink menus were limited. Prices have increased.
We made best of it and what they did have was excellent. Service was also really good. However, difficult to pay SO much money without a fantastic experience, top to bottom.
Mastro's is doing the best they can and we were so grateful they were open. Our first experience there and the service and food were outstanding. Dining in the tent in the converted parking lot was not as bad as we feared and at some point, you stop paying attention the environs. Even though it was quite chilly outside, it was just fine in the tent. I didn't even wear the wrap I brought just in case. Plenty of space between tables and patrons and the waitstaff seemed comfortable with their masks and gloves. Part of the new norm, grateful for their precautions and efforts. We were ultimately glad that we chose to dine out and to celebrate a milestone anniversary at Mastro's.
Our waitress was very friendly & efficient. We missed the ambiance of the bar & the piano entertainment, but the food & staff were excellent.
We had great service and fantastic staff, but the food and food quality is not what I have come to expect. It was disappointing, to say the least, given the cost.
The service was not up to par! It’s usually so good. I asked for my steak to be well done but it came burnt and crispy. It looked like a pile of ash.
Best restaurant meal in 2020 for me and my bride... Everything was delicious and the waiter was magnificent. Ask for Raymond , who was our server at Mastros , Thousand Oaks , Ca... Food was great , including the lemon drop martinis , butter cake , the new york steak , sautéed mushrooms and the creamed corn. I'm looking forward to finishing my leftovers tonight , while I watch the Masters highlights. They had a slight ordering error and gave us the brussel sprouts by mistake. Before they took them back and brought us the mushrooms , I sampled one , and , although I have hated brussels sprouts my entire life , the Mastros version was wonderful. Mastros could have given my deceased beloved mother some tips how to cook those things. Mastros , Thousand Oaks hasn't missed a beat since Covid.
Service was absolutely wonderful. It was our first time dining here and the waiter was fantastic at walking us through the menu, the way they serve the food, and giving recommendations. The food tasted great, the ambiance was very nice. We had a really wonderful time.
As always, the food and service were excellent. But the temperature, as always, was too cold. No matter which room I dine in, it's cold enough that you have to wear a coat all through dinner.
Overall experience was good, service a bit slow seemed as if our server had too many tables
Mike was great
Excellent service and knowledgeable wait staff. Wonderful food that was prepared to order. Fun & delicious cocktails (lemon drop martini w/Chambers topper)!
Fantastic server. Perfect birthday night for our 17 year old. Accommodated is for indoor when our reservations were for outdoor. Highly recommend
MASTROS STEAKHOUSE HAS REALLY GOOD LOBSTER AND SERVICE
Always great good. Loved the spacing outside. Didn’t feel to crowded and was not loud.
The food never disappoints! I love Mastro's Steakhouse and can't wait to go back again!
Was outside but they did a great job . Service and food was great .lots of heat lamps the outdoors was not an issue
Mastros is still one of my favorites. Even with the pandemic, this place has yet to disappoint me.
Was a very nice evening food and service was amazing and staff was very friendly. Will be going back definitely!!!!!
First time going. The place was beautiful, food was amazing!! We arrived 30min early and we were seated right away. It was quiet which I loved! Marco, our server came and introduced himself and helped us out with the menu. Such a sweetheart ♥️ he made us feel welcome and comfortable since it was our first time there. The food was brought to us fast and made with perfection. I recommend this place to anyone. Def going back again 😀
The food was amazing but the service was very slow. Felt like opening night at a new restaurant. Server was sweet but had to be new or overwhelmed.
Everything was great but expect to pay for it.. $$$$$
