Mastro's Steakhouse - Thousand Oaks
As always, the food was terrific! On a special occasion we split a porterhouse and two sides, with an oyster starter and butter cake finish.
Found our server Jessica to be especially great. She is knowledgeable, provides timely service, and is a pleasant conversationalist.
We love the food always, waiter wasn’t so sharp.
The overall service was very poor. I was terribly disappointed
The service was slow, sub par and ineffective. Having been to many Mastros, I was extremely disappointed in the overall experience. The food was very average.
Waitress was great but food was shockingly not good. Would expect a lot better from Mastro’s, especially since you’re serving far less tables. Both steaks were over-cooked, brussel sprouts were burnt to a crisp, creamed spinach was bland, and butter cake was cold and dense in the center. Was the butter cake not fresh? Felt like it was a day or two old cake pulled out of the fridge and barely heated. Bummer.
Impeccable, friendly service. Meat cooked just as described
The Chef is very personable, Tony is a great table attendant and his recommended lobster pulled from the shell panko dressed and baked is perfect. The steaks and garlic mashed are also a favorite. Start with sauteed shrimp or scallops to wet your appetite and get ready for the main course. A wonderful experience. Regards, Kevin
Not the Mastro’s we’ve enjoyed and loved for so many years. Food and service disappointed our entire table. The manager did however save the experience by removing the food items that failed. On a high note the sea bass, lamb and ahi appetizer where excellent. Will return when dining restrictions are lifted.
Didn’t know there was maestros in Thousand Oaks, my wife and I usually go to Malibu. We thoroughly enjoyed our night there
Great dinner to celebrate 🎉 A special birthday. I’m so happy Mastro’s is open. Looking forward to going back and having many dinners there. Thanks
Obviously when you dine now a days, you’re aware that everything is going to be VERY different. I called ahead to see where the outdoor dining is & the person who answered told me “we have a nice tent, the kind you use for outdoor weddings, with outdoor heaters.” Ok- sounds typical of the Covid dining these days. I asked for indoor seating but she said it can’t be guaranteed. Understood. As you walk to the back, you realize you didn’t win the indoor seating game & you see the tent. It’s carpeted & we’re happy to see that they use actual tables and chairs (probably from inside) as opposed to folding chairs. Our waiter was nice, but what we found odd was the fact that we were in the middle of eating as we watched him walk through the parking lot to leave for home. No one explained to us that we had a different waiter-nothing horrible but just a little unorthodox. The meal was fine- filet was a little more done than they said it would be, but I think that’s because they serve it on a very hot dish- better than a cold filet, right? We appreciated the complimentary cheesecake for our anniversary. We love how the martini comes w/the shaker so you can enjoy a good amount of it.The lobster bisque was EXCELLENT. What caught us off guard was the ambience- OF COURSE this is largely Covid’s fault, but I’d hope a restaurant who is normally a high end steakhouse would try a little harder to mask the fact that you are eating a very expensive meal while watching the valet park cars around a tent, along w/ the backside of an apartment building. We were also disappointed w/ the behavior of guests around us- NOT Mastro’s fault. Maybe the environment in which we were eating affected their behavior because in our previous visits pre-Covid we NEVER saw what we saw that evening- talking loudly on your speakerphone for more than five minutes, (twice), taking your shoes off & sitting cross legged on the chair & wearing a very short tight dress- love Mastro’s but we will wait to return.
Hailey was amazing and very informative on what to order when I asked her what should I get and she picked the best plates for us she was the best I would recommend her every time I go and if you want the best elite customer services definitely ask for her as your server she was exquisite! Thank you Hailey for your awesome services on our date night. Sincerely D.R.E. AT AMG BENZ T.O.
Service was slow took 30 min after sitting to just get break service and water 10 min past that for our cocktails that was ordered at the same time .
Steak was supposed to be medium well but was well done and burnt Caesar salad had lemon capers and tasted like anchovies full of dressing very different form the penthouse location we are used to going. Due to Covid restricted restaurant was not that busy but service was really slow
We like the Malibu restraunt better! Didn't care for our waiter in Thousand Oaks, food was good but over salted.
Highly recommend the wagyu. Out of all the steak houses that serve wagyu. Mastros easily has the best representation of how good this cut is. And don’t forget the butter cake! Dangerously good dessert.
Have gone to this Mastros before and had exceptional service. Must be the Covid because everything was sub par.. We waited 15 mins before our waiter came to the table.. Had to ask for bread service .. Steak was over charred with no flavor, asparagus was half way cooked and stalks where tough and in edible. Don’t get me started on the whiskey selection ... Monkey Shoulder is not high end and i can get that at Trader Joe’s for 18 bucks ... maybe it was because we where in a tent watching the cars zoom by to be parked ... Hope it was just a fluke ... if not... on to the next Steak house .
Started with seating us outside next to all the cars being parked for valet. No ambience, music or plants barely any heaters. Dress code is non existent shorts and flip flops okay now. Moved to indoor next to the kitchen, no music outdated and dirty including the restroom. Server was very mediocre no recommendations. Just going through the motions and our ticket was over $600. Sadly looks like Mastro’s TO is a has been.
Great as always. Wesley is was amazing and will definitely be back and ask for Wesley.
Kinda disappointed. Went for our 4th yr anniversary. The food was ok, the service was ok, the place itself was ok, we ate at the parking lot, was not romantic at all.
We loved the atmosphere and the warm reception from the employees. The food was good too.
Good for outdoor dining due to COVID Restrictions.
From the front desk check in manager, which was not the same Mastro's we are used to experiencing to the service at the table our party will not be returning until dining is back to normal. The woman was rude at the front desk when we were greeted and the way she reminded us of the 90 min rule. There's a way to be a bit more pleasant about this and she wasn't friendly or what our party is used to when dining at Mastros.
Also, we were pouring our own wine, not receiving water, and service seemed like it was the B team vs. your typical Mastros skilled waiter's.
Finally, being in a parking lot under a tent is a reminder that although I appreciate trying to find a way to open, its not a fun experience sitting in a parking lot to eat in a fine dining restaurant. The few tables at the front of the restaurant are probably the better options. The menu was also not the same and many items missing. :(
Very good food! Service is not as good as it was when inside, I’m assuming cutbacks in amount of servers
I had a great birthday dinner
We were celebrating two weeks of marriage, and it was so nice to get out for a nice dinner and have some semblance of normalcy. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. They have done an excellent job dealing with Covid and outdoor dining while still providing an outstanding upscale dining experience.
Server forgot our spinach. Also did not know the exact prices of items as they were not listed on the menu.
Amazing as always. A bit different sitting outside under trees that kept dropping leaves on our table but still really nice. Our waitress Brittney was stellar, personable, hardworking, polite and very upbeat. Loved her. Not our first time at Mastros and definitely not our last.
Awesome food and service, great flavor, seems all is made in their kitchen daily fresh.
Food portion Vs. price is totally worth it.
Food was great. Service was a bit slow.
Ambiance ok as they have to adapt with the conditions at hand. Overall, a nice night.
Food is always great, staff amazing but it’s Mastro’s so always quite expensive..
For dinning outdoors they made it as safe and comfortable as possible
The outdoor dinning was pleasant with well spaced tables. The food was excellent as always.
Everything was great ! Will be going again real soon.
I had my reservation at 7:00 pm we didn’t got sited till 7:45 I don’t know why because there was plenty of tables open , we finally got sited our server come to us don’t even tell us anything about the menu she just give us the menu and walk away 10 min passed by then she return at this point we just wanted to order at least a drink so she Comover after like ten minutes and ask us if we wanted something to drink which of course we did she took our drink order and we order an starter we got our starter and that drink was serve like five minutes after we got our starter at that point we already had order our dinner she never came back and check on us if we wanted another drink or how our food was ; the floor manager keep passing by us helping other tables but never came to us and ask if we were ok or offer us a drink like what she was doing with the Other patrons that were there we kind felt invisible I been at mastros many times in different states it was my friend first time and I felt bad for the experience she had because o highly recommended it to her will I got back probably not it was as bad
Friendly staff & great food. Outdoor dining is decent. It’s starting to get colder at night, so would suggest a light jacket.
Services was bad ... I would like a refund... the staff was very rude... later on that night me and my friend got sick.... I been to many other Mastro before but this one not cool
Brittney our server was the BEST ever. She made sure out drinks were full as well as kept us hydrated and the food was prompt and hot and very delicious.
This was my first time dining here! I took my girlfriend here for her bday dinner! It was amazing! The food was excellent! With the Covid restrictions, unfortunately I had to dine outside. But it was still amazing! I would like to bring my husband for dinner. Hopefully we will be back to dining inside. I’m sure it’s a whole other experience!
Awesome meal. The food was excellent as always. Our server, Raymond and the crew, were attentive while still allowing us free time. And they have done a great job with the outdoor dining setup.
Love the outside seating and food and service were as great as ever
