Love it here, have been coming since it opened. Food is always great, love the atmosphere, live music. Server, Adrian, was fantastic, attentive and personable. Manager/Bartender, Zach, was super friendly and informative. Definitely try the burger, has a crust but is moist, sweet caramelized onions, buttery brioche bun. Arugula and mushroom salad with goat cheeses outstanding. Street corn is delicious!
I did not realize this restaurant is in a hotel, in an open area just off the lobby. It is a cavernous space -- very high ceilings. We found the room to be so cold that we ended up putting our jackets on (even though the hostess said she'd have the engineer turn up the heat). We theorize the heat was all going up into the vaulted ceiling.
The food was fine. We had calamari and the mushroom-cheese-salad tapas. Both were good, but it is a misnomer to call either tapas, as each one was a mound of food -- each came with a rounded serving on a platter that was at least 12"x6" (which explained the surprisingly high price for the tapas). It was so much food we had no room for additional tapas.
This was a Friday evening. The guitarist-singer wasn't bad, but seemed to take longer breaks than he played.
We think most of the patrons of the restaurant were staying at the hotel.
This would have zero stars if it wasn't for the manager coming over and taking care of us after we HAD to complain about the terrible (and I mean TERRIBLE) service. Not once did we get asked how our food was. Mine was good hers was terrible. She didn’t even touch her meal. After 35 min sitting there with empty drinks, no water, and no server in sight the waitress came over and took our plates not even acknowledging the fact that her plate wasn’t touched. Never asked if I wanted another beer since the first one I received. Finally my gf asked to speak to a manager. He took care of us so it wasn’t a complete waist of time and money. However, we had to go elsewhere after this place to actually enjoy a meal and drinks together. I’d recommend it still to a friend because my food was good and I believe we just got a crappy waitress who was just a miserable person.
Best paella and most delicious tender olives I’ve ever had !both are not to be missed!
Service was great. The food was a bit so-so. The paella came out like a soup and had too much pickled onion and cilantro in it. The shrimp toast was quite good though.
We were a group of 8. Melissa, our server was Amazing! She was just so attentive and her recommendations for food and drinks..even the non-alcoholic ones were top notch! Our evening from beginning to end was just outstanding. We'll be back for sure!
My husband and I have dined at Matadora before and were very pleased the first time we dined. We live in the area and were very happy to have such a great place to dine within a short drive. This second time we dined on Valentines Day and were less than impressed. The steaks we had were good but were not worthy of the $44 and $48 price tags they carried. My potato and vegetable were both cold, and the potato was not mashed well at all, it tasted as if it had been sitting for a while, further by the look of the vegetable on my husband's plate as well as the potato, his appeared to be cold as well. We were seated by the window of the restaurant and there was a draft blowing in right above my head which considering, as cold as the evening was outside didn't really help matters. The sparkling rose cava that we were served was ok, but did not warrant the $13 per flute. My thought is that it was Valentines Day and that the restaurant didn't have it all quite together. The atmosphere was energetic and lively and the dining room was full, we'll give it another try at some point but this past Friday was lacking which was unfortunate.
Great food and location. We were able to sit and eat without constantly being bothered and enjoyed the music. It felt like we were in Spain. Food and service was fantastic. It was a pricey place so we may only go for special occasions.
When you enter the rotating doors towards hotel, the restaurant is openly to your left side. Its open inside the lobby, however still tucked away where you feel your dining out. Surrounding up top are hotels balconys & some patrons were out. It was a unique setting. We had a serving of Pan con tomate tapas which were very yummy. Then wood grilled chicken & a Matadore burger. The meals & drinks were served timely and cooked very well. The menu is short & selective, best to check online to get a feel before going. Some families checking into the hotel came to dinner also, with children maybe ages 5 to 7, etc, unsure if they have kids menus as overall dining vibe is geared towards adults. Beautiful iron bull in lobby, host took pucs of us there. Highly recommend!
We had a nice experience. We love the variety of tapas. Great cocktails, terrific service. A delightful escape with an extremely talented guitar player and singer.
Not crowded, but service slow
Ordered sangria which took a very long time to come (had to ask again and it arrived with the entrees) and was very watery
Entrees not as good as the tapas: stick with the small plates
I have been before; this was a disappointing visit
We tried a variety of tapas options from the marinated olives (which seemed like they were straight of the jar, disappointing) The shrimp toast, mussels, papa fritas, flaming chorizo and the octopus were amazing. The e drinks were sensational and the churro was delicious.
Fabulous Tapas...try the mussels!!
Our party of 4 had Paella which was too hot, spicy and salty. Could not eat it, it was impossible. Our waiter was excellent, replaced with other dishes that were good. Bad experience!
Great all around
Server must have had too many tables to tend too which may explain the long wait times. She did look tired too but the manager should have taken action on this.
The cheese platter was not that great. We had to ask for bread given we had cheese and jams on it. We wanted a second order of calamari but we were told it ran out.
We were also advised that dessert was going to take long so we decided to pass instead.
I made reservations for 5 with opentable... the MetrD told me the reservations are not honored because “I made it while standing outside of the restaurant and not in advance”... then asked us to wait for 15-25 min to tell how long it would take... finally I asked to cancel reservation at which point they set us down... at the end the waitress made a mistake and charged us for 3 appetizers (octopus) instead of 1... I pointed to it... and they brought an updated bill with 2 octopus changes instead of one... overall... I really like this place and use it for business dinners a lot... the food is excellent... wine and drinks menu excellent... atmosphere decor everything is great! BUT with a service like that I’m not coming back with clients... just can’t risk dealing with all this in front of my clients... hope they get it and fix it as the fundamentals are there...
The food was much better than expected, it had that terrific just prepared taste. The paella was delicious and plenty for two. I plan to go there again.
Tappas are unique. One person ordered octopus, and it was not delivered. Service was friendly. Restaurant adapted to us having 7 people when we had a reservation for six. Would not divide the check. So one person picked up check for 5 people .
Not good, service was so slow, food was ok, not worth the price
We sat in the curved booth - great seat. Had dinner from 5:30 - 7:30. Very quiet, not too busy, but even it were, I think the noise level would have stayed low thanks to the fabulous raised, glass paned ceiling. Must come back for lunch to experience all that natural light. Everyone was happy with their meal. I had the hanger steak with cheese fries - way too many of those, but the steak was excellent with a spicy sauce and garlic butter, both of which I mostly partook of lightly but enjoyed. Also a small microgreen salad, very good. Entrees were generous (heavy on the potatos), tapa of normal size.
Server didn't seem interested in waiting on us. Had to search him out for the check. Food was pretty, but fair in taste. Many other tapas restaurants much better to choose from. Limited selection
Very small crowd for Friday night at 7:30.
Couldn't hear the musician.
Not worth the drive
$25 for a half or a chicken breast, mashed potatoes and toast?
Service took waaaay to long to get our drinks.
Apps were great. Dinner sucked! Service was horrible. Our server stopped halfway through taking our drink order to go put the 5 drinks in, while the other 5 people had not ordered but were ready. He took most of the dinners off our bill because they were nasty. I enjoyed the company of my friends but nothing else about the dinner.
I hate writing bad reviews but this place was not good.
Music was too techno. Prefer a more mellow music while eating. The risotto could have been cook a little longer had some crunchy ones. Overall ok.
We had a great New Year's Eve dinner here. The Paella and chicken dish was awesome. Rose took great care of us, gave us a glass of champagne and she was very knowledgeable and personable. Chef Steve and he was passionate about Spanish food and sent us over some flaming chorizo. Yum.
Excellent as always! Flawless service, wonderful food and atmosphere!
Matadora was one of the only restaurants open on Christmas Day, and all others that were open on the holiday were fully booked, so we opted for Matadora. Nearly all of the tables were empty, so that should have told me something. We ordered three or four tapas plates, which were just so-so, than we had our entrees. The menu is very limited for entrees. The sirloin steak was okay--not great--and was served on a huge mound of mashed potatoes, then covered all over with some kind of sauce. Just my personal preference (also the others at our table) that for a sirloin steak, having everything all slopped together like that was not very appetizing. The filet mignon was very highly seasoned with black pepper. If you like au poivre, this would be good, if not, it would be too spicy for you. We probably will not go back.
Food was OK. However salads and tapas all came at once and hot tapas were cold by the time we could get to them.
Ambience was cold - very high ceilings make it hard to heat.
There was hotel pool nearby and happily screaming children were a distraction.
Absolutely loved our meal. We got the garlic toast, shishito peppers, paella, and street corn. If you like seafood, GET THE PAELLA. It’s hands down the best I’ve had. The cocktails were also fabulous, as they usually are. We will definitely be back.
Service was awful!! Waited 15 mins for drinks and to order entrees. All entrees came out at very different times and the steak was cooked well done (suppose to be medium raw) and was small.
Really unique experience. Steak frites and the chicken were awesome. Also recommend the shashito peppers and flaming chorizo for tapas.
Made last minute reservations on a Friday and got in no problem. The food was way above my expectations (delicious!) and our server was really awesome.
The food was excellent! There were good portions of everything we ate. Service was excellent as well. There is often music weekend nights.
The food was great. The menu online was inconsistent with what we received which was a bit disappointing. The waitress, although nice, was not very present and we needed to flag her down for service on several occasions. The ambiance was beautiful and the concept is great, but we left a bit set back with the total experience.
Great food and service. The server was very knowledgeable on her wine. Paella was a bit watery and salty side but calamari and other side dishes were excellent. Ambience was very nice but music was a bit loud so interfered our conversation. Will definitely go back some other time.
First of all it was a birthday, it said so in the reservation and we told the server but nothing special was done for us even though we are repeat customers.
Otherwise the server and service was excellent, the food was excellent.
We ordered a number of items that were delicious.
Our main item, beef filet, and mashed potatoes, came out last and were cold. We did not complain because we were full by then anyway.
We were sat under a large screen TV and is was cold, cold air coming from somewhere.
So I give the overall rating of 4 stars. Only because when we walked in, the host was on the phone making a personal call and had not greeted us initially and was engrossed in her phone call about keys she mistakenly took. I get that it’s important but she could have paused her call and continue it later. She rushed us to our table and then just walked away to continue her phone call. The ambiance was fine and I loved the live music but with an open ceiling the sound echoed and I could barely hear my friend talk. The food was good but unsure if I’d come back again for the price. The drinks were great! I got the sangria flight and that was delicious and I’ll probably go to the bar the next time I’m in the area. So that was the end of my birthday.
Great food, service and atmosphere!
We went for my fiancé’s birthday it was outstanding !
