The food was stellar as always! Every bite of each course was the perfect balance of flavors and texture. If you’re celebrating a special occasion, the staff at Matthew’s goes above and beyond to make it feel just that way—special.
Awesome as always!!
Always a pleasure
Great bar area
Great waiter, Jeff
Already recommended it to friends
One of the best date nights in Jacksonville
Top notch service and food
The food was delicious. The plating and decoration were aesthetically pleasant, and the flavors matched the quality of the meal’s facade. Very unique and well-balanced dishes lived up to the ethos of this restaurant. The service was exceptional and flexible with orders and modifications. However, the dim room took some color out of the food (I would have liked to see the red pop more in the red of the tuna). Nevertheless, my experience was unprecedentedly fantastic.
Beautiful dinner, excellent food. Always a wonderful dining experience.
The Chef's Choice 6 course meal was amazing!! Will order it again.
Always good. It’s a special place and they take good care of their clientele.
Eve M. made the night special. She and her team did a wonderful job. Can’t say enough about the chef and that staff. Excellent all around.
There was a man at the table next to us that was so loud and disturbed our entire dinner. Waiter was aware. He should have been asked to tone it down a little.
Mother’s Day dinner
Outstanding service and food. Decor was odd to me. Highly recommend overall.
Anniversary dinner, we did the 6 course chef special with wine pairing. Everything was delicious and left full and happy other than the bill, but it was expected.
We enjoyed the Tasting menu with some hits and other misses. First course watermelon and ginger/mint salad was enjoyable but the greens (watercress?) had long tendrils that were hard to fork and chew properly. Felt like swallowing hair? Scallops were delicious. Bread service was also very tasty. Duck leg was the meat course. Tasted fine but felt a little cheap? Like being served a chicken drumstick as your entree. The cheese service did not work. A tiny wedge of brie with 2 blueberries and about 5 crostini chips. The flavor of the chips clashed with the delicate brie. Pasta course was uneven temperature. Pasta was cool. Sauce was warm. Red rock shrimp were star of dish. Dessert was a perfect end to the meal. Not too heavy not too sweet. A lovely anniversary wish was nice touch scrolled in chocolate. Service staff were friendly and professional. Great experience. Another thing to note is that even though it was happy hour, waiter would not honor special drink prices he declared were only for the lounge. We were there early and would have had a drink in the lounge if we'd known?
Had the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was excellent. A true dining experience.
Super attentive servers and delicious food, quiet swanky atmosphere. We came here while visiting from Gainesville for a long weekend and we’d definitely make it a point to come back again on our next overnight visit.
Matthew's is a favorite. Looking for fine dining, if not too price sensitive (in which case you're probably barking up the wrong tree), you've found it here. Solid. My recent visit was a Monday, and business was slow but the full attention was on, and the half price on wine by the bottle (Mondays) was - hey! - a price break in fine dining!
Great evening out with my wife. It was our 23rd wedding anniversary and Matthews made it a special dinner for both of us.
Our first visit. We were welcomed immediately & everyone was accommodating & helpful, especially with my dietary issues. Lovely evening.
We were there to celebrate our Anniversary and Matthews always treats us really well. Service was fantastic as usual and the food was amazing.
Great service, food and atmosphere. Positive attitude by all service people. Cricket is a super hostess and Delvin a great waiter. Both vey welcoming and helpful. We will be back again and again!
EXCELLENT SERVICE AND ALSO JEFF WAS HELPFUL WITH FOOD AND WINE SELECTION. FOOD WAS EXCELLENT AND PACE OF SERVING WAS TERRIFIC.
From the greeting to the departure we received just the right amount of attention. As noted in the ratings the taste, texture and size of the servings was perfect, enough, but not so much that anyone asked to take home large amounts left on any plate. We were able to enjoy conversation among all but the most distant at our table for 7 without shouting. Though it is possible we were louder at times than neighboring tables would have preferred. Yet none were annoyed enough to call it to our attention. More than half were first time visitors and I expect all will return.
Absolutely wonderful experience ! Food was incredible
Amazing restaurant, the food is absolutely wonderful, so amazing with the flavors, hats off to the chef!!
Everything was great. I just wish the portions were a little more for the value.
Best food I've had in a long time, everything was delicious...this is me and my wife's favorite restaurant and Ryan our waiter was great
Fantastic restaurant with truly great service.
the restaurant was very nice and the service was outstanding. The only issue was its a little pricey for the amount of food you receive.
The food did not in any way reflect the $300 spent for a date for 2 ppl. For that much money out of 4 courses each there should be been something to blow one of us away and there definitely wasn’t. The portions were highway robbery. Again, $300 and you get a HALF a lobster tail. HALF! Not to mention how extremely bland the food was. The server was great. The ambiance and layout of the restaurant is also nice. However, the food is very disappointing. I eat at high end restaurants a few times a year and I eat out in general all the time. Not to mention I’m a very accomplished cook myself so this isn’t coming from a place of ignorance. I had such high expectations and was totally let down. The best part was the bread and the drinks.
Loved it. Had a wonderful Valentine’s Day experience
My wife and I ate here for Valentine’s Day and it was definitely a miss. We’ve dined here on several other occasions and it’s usually one of our go-to’s for special occasion dining. There were two different options for dinner a 4 course dinner for $90 and a 5 course tasting menu for $110. We chose the tasting menu which left us hungry and wishing for more. The pacing was also off. The wait for our first course was almost 20” and it was two oysters atop dried inedible beans. Then the other courses came out bam, bam, bam. That was until the dessert course which was the pre-fixe soufflé. My view was of the pastry station which was oddly placed so I noticed our soufflés were not even put in until 20” after we finished eating our 4th course. We were offered no explanation for our wait and I had to flag down the manager to inquire as to when they might be served. He came back and told us another 10”. He asked if we wanted more drinks but didn’t offer them as an apology. I felt the whole experience was subpar compared to prior experiences here.
Still the best fine dining in Jax. Pavel was a delight in service, food and wine pairings were pristine, and the ambiance is romantic and upscale. Pricey, for sure, but you get more than what you pay for.
even though it was Valentine's Day, the service was extremely slow for this outing which took 2 1/2 hours for us to have our 4 courses---the food and drink was good but 745-1015 was a little excessive even for a popular night like this--they even gave us free champagne since it was taking so long in the kitchen to bring out the next course--we have been to Matthew's a lot and this was a surprise to us
I want to thank Matthew’s for making Valentines Day so special for myself and my date. Our waiter was very attentive and the bar staff was very friendly. Always a excellent experience at Mathews. Unforgettable
We were there on Valentines Day
As always, an amazing dinner. We started with their bread basket and an appetizer of their fried brussel sprouts. My wife had their tuna, fresh, rare and so tender you can easily use your fork only. I went with the grilled beef tenderloin. Amazing. Tender enough to cut with your fork at a perfect medium rare. Then the chefs special for dessert was a coffee souffle with cream. It was excellent.
David took excellent care of us. We enjoyed the appetizers and main course. The desserts were good but not up to the usual standards.
