   Not great first course the pasta was cold Wine order taken after first course came not what you’d expect from a restaurant at this level very poor 2nd course beef was also tepid my wife had the Lobster which she said was ok but not awe inspiring Desert was the only highlight We frequent a lot of the top line restaurants in London and this one really needs to pull its socks up not a great evening at all left hungry……..

   What an amazing evening. Myself and my wife chose the tasting menu and it was absolutely outstanding with beautiful wine pairings. if only I could cook Cod like that! And the Crown pasta. Wow! A beautiful journey through some stunning food matched with perfectly friendly service and ambiance. We would not hesitate in booking again. Thank you David, Monica and your team x

   The bar was lovely, with a very friendly barman. We were able to choose our meal here before heading downstairs for dinner. It was a surprise that it was easy to hold a conversation when the tables were fairly close together. We weren't aware of having to listen to our neighbours. The food was delicious and whilst not every wine in the wine flight hit the spot for us, it was still very enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and will return

   The food was delicious. The restaurant itself was also very nice and comfortable. However compared to other tasting menus that we’ve experienced we found the amount of food inadequate for dinner. Ordered an additional cheese course which came with a generous amount of cheese and 4 thin crackers! It all just felt a bit stingy overall. No one offered to advise on wine. Also the menu had been well thumbed and looked a bit tatty like a cafe menu. The experience was not as luxurious as we were expecting.

   Beautiful restaurant upon arrival we were well looked after, jackets taken, and shown the bar. Then taken down to our table. The restaurant is private and it’s nicely laid out. Tables are intimate, but corner tables for 2 are preferred. The service was impeccable with a great sommelier. We chose from the a la carte menu for the full experience.. every single dish from 3 courses was so good, so tasty, so quirky, and very refined. I would recommend the hokey pokey dessert and from the a la carte as you get the full size and more of that goodness!! Overall extremely satisfied and certainly will return! Monica knows exactly what she’s doing here.

   The most amazing experience, as this was a ‘big’ birthday we went for the Amataga “Initiation” wine pairing with the tasting menu. Food and wine were sublime, service simply perfect. We could not of asked for a better experience.

    I have wanted to visit Mere for a long time and the wait was certainly worth it and we will return very soon. From start to finish absolutely faultless, the ambience, attentive service and the food is out of this world. This is a very special place where your taste buds will be blown away with every bite.

    Fantastic unpretentious food beautifully presented. We really enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The sommelier took great care of us as he took us through the tasting journey with perfectly paired wines. The atmosphere is relaxed and calming conducive to a great romantic dinner or quiet dinner with friends and family. We were there for our wedding anniversary and received some nice chocolates and card wishing us a happy anniversary from Monica and the team - a nice personal touch. Afterwards we enjoyed a couple of amazing cocktails in the comfortable and plush bar area which we practically had to ourselves. All in all a great all around experience which I would recommend!

    Hi - I am struggling with how many restaurants these days are making their customers suit them. We had a lunch of 7 the other day and "had" to have the tasting menu as we were over six people. The meal was excellent but far more expensive than we'd planned. I fail to see why we had to have the tasting menu. What happened to good old customer service? Also the staff were lovely but trying a little too hard and also interrupted us all the time. I know it's hard but service can be done in a more fluid and gentle way if properly trained.

    Greeting very friendly. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Cocktails lovely. Food to die for. Discovery wine pairing was good but felt a little overpriced. Overall would come back once I saved up.

    I visited Mere with my wife as a surprise for her in her birthday, originally having looked to come the same time the year before. Due to illness we weren’t able to do so and I rebooked for this year instead. I was extremely excited to visit and wasn’t let down… the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff as we came in and were taken to our table made us very comfortable, and it was lovely warm and welcoming down in the restaurant. We chose the A la Carte menu as it allowed us most flexibility and my starter of celeriac, main of Venison and dessert of coconut and Kumquat were outstanding. Sometimes challenging but exciting and perfect at the same time and even better, if that were possible, for it. My wife’s pork main had unbelievable natural flavour and was Devine and the milk chocolate used in the deserts was absolutely the best I have ever experienced. Mmmm We sat upstairs in the bar for a post lunch cocktail and I had an old fashioned made perfectly. The barman was extremely knowledgable, warm and friendly, and this helped make the whole experience right to the end the most amazing birthday we could have wished for. Thank you Phil Colchester

    Our 4th time here as a couple and we always have high expectations of a fabulous meal and once again we were not disappointed. From the cocktails in the bar to the mint tea and chocolate at the end of the meal it was faultless. I love how the staff are so proud and enthusiastic about the food they are serving.     Amazing service and welcome as always. A wonderful reception and chat with the delightful bar man (his name escapes me) who remembered us from previous visits. Very relaxed atmosphere and no rush. We took our time at the bar and went to our table at our leisure. Once seated at our table we were served beautiful canapés . The courses that followed were absolutely stunning. My husband and I absolutely love this restaurant and will definitely return.

    I'd heard Monica Galleti had opened her own restaurant and was keen to try it out. It was a notable meal and we had a marvellous time. It was quite quiet and the room wasn't full on a Wednesday evening. That was fine though. They did keep more of the tables together when I suppose we could have been spread out more but there was enough space between tables you're not inadvertently overhearing others' convo. The amuses bouches were small but bursting with flavour. We had the pumpkin mousse with smoked mackerel and brioche and caviar on the side, as well as the celeriac and clams as starters. Both unexpected but very nice. Then venison and monkfish for mains. The venison edged it for me. For dessert we shared the hokey pokey a kiwi inspired dessert. Fans of chocolate mousse will enjoy. We came for a birthday dinner and at the end of the meal they wrote Happy Birthday to the birthday boy in chocolate on a plate of delicious chocolates. The candle was in a scoop of a lemon curd cream. Sharp but with sweetness. We didn't go in for wines, but I'd imagine the selection is very good. We saw a few tables having the tasting menu paired with wines and they seemed happy. Instead we had a virgin bride (sharp, but a very different type of mocktail to the usual offering so would recommend trying if you don't just want sugary non alcoholic drinks) and the strawberry juice which was quite mellow. It's not cheap. Just under £200 with service for the entire meal plus service. Tasting menu for multiple courses (6 I believe) will be more. Maybe this is best saved for a special occasion or business meal. The decor is meaningful and a mix of traditional and modern. Neat presentation without being too much. Dress code is fairly relaxed. We both were in jeans (black and blue) and jumpers (it is the middle of a cold snap after all!). Nothing fancy, nothing designer. Was nice to just be at ease.

    We ate here for my husband’s birthday. The staff were attentive but not in your face. The food was amazing. I would not hesitate to recommend Mere and will definitely dine there again even though we live 60 miles away Thank you for a wonderful evening

    Our trip to Mere was first class. The staff were very polite and attentive without being overbearing. The ambience very relaxed. The food was exceptional, our table choose the taster menu which had some great dishes, my favourite was the venison which was cooked to perfection. All in all a top night and to cap it off we were lucky enough to meet Monica. What a lovely lady!

    Wonderful birthday treat. We had the tasting menu and it didn’t disappoint. The staff were attentive, friendly without being stuffy which made it relaxing & comfortable. I even had the opportunity to meet Monica and the kitchen brigade which topped off the evening. Great food and wine and highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful evening to everyone at Mere.
