Meski blends Ethiopian and Afro-Latin flavors into a bold, thoughtful menu that celebrates cultural parallels and family heritage. Signature dishes include a T-bone steak rubbed with berbere and coffee, served alongside chile-glazed plantains and pigeon peas, as well as sambusas made from yuca—crispy pockets filled with berbere-spiced beef or lentils.
Named after Fassil’s late mother, Meski also features soulful plates like sancocho, the classic Dominican meat stew, reimagined with Ethiopian spices. As the menu has evolved, Chef German has delighted in discovering how closely his native Dominican cuisine mirrors Ethiopian traditions—his mother’s steak encebollado, for example, evokes the flavors of Ethiopian beef tibs.
Please note: Due to high demand and the intimate size of our dining room, reservations for parties of five or fewer are allotted a 90-minute dining experience. Parties of six are allotted 120 minutes.

An Outstanding Evening at Meski — and a Special Thank You to Chef Leonard!
Yolanda and I ended a wonderful Saturday in San Francisco with dinner at Meski, and the experience was a memorable one.
The moment you step inside, the atmosphere makes an impression. Rich emerald-green seating, striking artwork, dramatic greenery, warm lighting, and a beautiful multilevel bar give the restaurant a sophisticated yet welcoming feel. It's an inviting place to unwind and enjoy an evening together.
We ordered family-style: Whole Branzino, the Yetsom Platter, Dominican Locrio Rice, and a Papa G nonalcoholic specialty drink.
The Whole Branzino was the standout — beautifully presented and, most importantly, SEASONED TO PERFECTION! The balance of seasoning truly impressed me. The Yetsom Platter brought an assortment of Ethiopian-inspired flavors, including greens, beans, plantains, and injera, while the Dominican rice added a Caribbean touch. The Papa G was beautifully garnished with citrus and mint.
I had been especially looking forward to the possibility of finally meeting Chef Nelson German. Although that didn't happen this visit, meeting Chef Leonard turned out to be one of the highlights of our evening! He personally stopped by our table and was an absolute delight. We had a warm, engaging conversation about Ethiopian and Dominican fusion, spice levels, and how thoughtful seasoning brings a dish together. His generosity with his time made our visit feel personal and special.
Meski brings together food, culture, art, and hospitality in a distinctive way. Between the perfectly seasoned Branzino, the beautiful setting, and Chef Leonard's genuine warmth, Yolanda and I left with a wonderful memory.
Thank you, Chef Leonard! We hope to return, try more of the menu, and perhaps meet Chef Nelson next time.

Overall the food was very good. A bit pricey-we had party of 7 and bill was almost $600.00. Otherwise would go again. A couple of mentions: the lights over our table area were on and turned off while we were still there. It made table area very dark - not sure why the lights went out. Also the bathrooms are downstairs, so for someone older or with mobility issues going downstairs to use restroom may present a challenge.

We celebrated a friend’s birthday at Meski and appreciated the thoughtful birthday card waiting at our table. Unfortunately, the service didn’t match that warm welcome.
Our server seemed distracted and disappeared after taking our order. We eventually had to ask another server for assistance. Thankfully, someone I knew who worked there stepped in and turned things around.
The food was absolutely top-tier! Every signature appetizer we tried was phenomenal. I considered the black cod special but passed because it came with bok choy. I’d love to see a more creative pairing rather than the predictable choice.
Most disappointing, our server never acknowledged the birthday until we requested the check, despite the birthday card sitting on our table. A simple “Happy Birthday” would have meant a lot.
I’ll definitely return for the exceptional food and to explore the entrées, but I’ll be requesting a different server. Great food deserves equally great hospitality!

We had a lovely time celebrating our anniversary on Friday night. The food was excellent, especially the plantains and whole Branzino. Every person who came to our table wished us a happy anniversary and they even sent out a little aperitif at the end of our meal to celebrate.
