Best tempura I ever tasted！！！Outside Layer is thin and crispy. The fishes and vegetables in side are so fresh and juicy. Beautiful transitional Japanese room for dinning and wonderful service.
This is once in a lifetime experience. Mikawa Zezankyo redefine tempura.
The most regrettable part of our entire trip. The food was not up to our expectations and the service was not very friendly. This was one of the most pretentious restaurants I have ever been to. If this was actually the best tempura I have ever had, I could forgive the cost and lack of hospitality; it was not. I do not recommend to anyone. Save your money, you can find better tempura in Japan for less (try Kyoto).

The price is reasonable at the first of all, the reservation is easiser and convient for me.
There was a little lacking is it is easy to miss the restaurant because of its low-profile.
We made the reservation one month ago just to make sure we can get the counter seating. However, when we arrived at the restaurant 10min earlier than the reservation time, we were informed our reservation did not show that we got the counter seating.
We double checked the OpenTable and confirmed that if we did not select the counter/standard seating option, we cannot even be routed to the next page for the confirmation of the reservation. So we told the front desk and said if we make another reservation now and select the counter seating, if you can see our new reservation contains the counter seating info, what will you do? They were just afraid us to do so. They just said we didn’t select the counter seating. But we did select. Because that is why we came here.
The experience is really bad. But we do not have other evidence to prove they treated us in a rude and impolite way. I just want to say no matter how good the food you cook or how famous you are, you are expected to show the respect to every customer and treat them in the same way no matter where they are from.
The food is soooo good. Price is a little bit experience, but I will say worth for that price. Best tempera I ever had. A must go in Tokyo.
Although the food and the Chef is perfect, but the rules of Restaurant was very restricted and too many regulations.

The lunch session of 90 minutes is very rush for the meal. As such, the dining experience is not as great as it should be.
The reservation was made few months in advance and expected to see the chef making tempura,however,we were at the private room that feel like isolated,and the service was on average.Suppose there were 13 dishes on the menu but then 5 dishes were off the menu and didn’t replace with anything.Overall,the dinner was okay only.

After seated, the main server took our drinks order. I ordered coke but he put down an orange juice and walked away without reconfirming, I had to tell another staff to change it back to coke.
During the meal when the main server put down items onto our trays, somehow he would serve from the middle of us. For proper service etiquette, one should always try to serve from the sides of the customers without intruding into the private space between the customers.
I noticed he likes to move stuffs around for the customer. For example I had my cup removed from the tray and placed on the table because the tray was too crowded. He quickly came and picked up the cup and placed it back onto my tray, like I shouldn’t move things around by myself. It’s a big nono to move customers items around without asking for permission. In this case he really should not interfere with how the customer likes to have her crockery laid out in front of her, even if the item was blocking him from serving something else (which was not the case in this situation), he should have politely ask for permission to relocate the said item.
Then when we were about to leave, he returned our coats to us and we were halfway through putting our coats on, he handed us the check and asked us to pay. I still couldn’t think of a valid reason for not letting us finish wearing our coats before handed us the check. It was hectic and I felt like we were being rushed to leave.
We paid by credit card and as he handed us the slip to be signed on a clipboard, he used one hand while at the same time talking to another person without even supporting the board for me to sign on.
Overall the food was amazing but the experience was bad due to the poor service, didn’t feel valued at all. He treated Japanese the same way too so it had nth to do with us being foreigners. To have such server in a legendary restaurant is simple unbelievable

This tempura restaurant is one of the best restaurant in the world. There are several reasons to say "the best" as following, first of all, all the ingredients are extremely high quality and not only the freshness. second, the chef, "Tetsuya Saotome" is dedicated his life to cook tempura for more than 50 years. He is not speaking a lot, but his work having tremendous words to show us through his technique. finally, I also want to mention in this review is, his co-workers. they are dedicated to their tasks and not shown to temupra counter, but their skills and works supports entire restaurant too.
