Milton's Black Mountain
My wife and I enjoyed “date night” outside by the linear fireplace. Milton’s has become our go-to restaurant during the pandemic as it offers socially distance dining and a relaxed outdoor dining experience. Our entries were deliciously prepared - trout and flounder.
Wonderful staff and very charming place. Medium sized menu but very well done. Good selection of traditional and creative southern fare.
The hotel lobby was decorated for Christmas and we had an enjoyable Thanksgiving dinner. Sat by a fireplace, but was in the lobby. Food was very good- traditional flavors updated presentation. Server was friendly and service was paced well. 1 surprise was that the waitress said her tip was not included in the set price. Yet, this was not how the dinner was advertised. Felt like there was something underhanded going on. We tipped well and thanked her her for working on Thanksgiving. We would have tipped even if she said it was included. But left disappointed.
Wonderful holiday meal. Look forward to coming back for the rest of the menu!
Food was delicious and service was great. Kind of strange that even tho it was prie fix their was no rolls or salad and no coffee/ tea offered with desert.
Understand this was a holiday menu. The facility is very nice and will return for dinner in the future
Thank you for the great feedback. We will take your suggestions into consideration going forward. We greatly appreciate your patronage and are very happy you enjoyed your Thanksgiving dinner with us. We hope to have the pleasure of seeing you again soon.
Incredibly friendly staff!
Beautiful location and lovely Interior. After I read all of the reviews I was looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner . I think this wasn’t a good representation of what they can do . The presentation was good however our food was not hot when it arrived. The turkey dinner did not include cranberries- thought there might be a nice spoonful of fresh cranberry relish. There was no stuffing. The mashed potato tasted like they were packaged.
If we return to Asheville we will give it another try and my guess is we won’t be disappointed.
Thank you so much for your kind words and the great feedback. We want to make sure our guest have a great holiday experience and will definitely strive to elevated your experience going forward. Thank you again for spending your holiday with us. We were so thankful to have you.
My husband and I eat out for every Thanksgiving and we both agreed this meal was perfect. From the food, to the service, to the beautiful setting in the Monte Vista the experience was flawless.
We were warmly welcomed by the staff when we arrived which made our Thanksgiving dinner start off great. The staff at Milton’s is awesome. The meal was very good and the whole experience was excellent.
Thank you so very much! We are so grateful you chose to spend your holiday with us. Your support means so much to our staff. We hope to have you back very soon.
Though the staff was very qualified and professional, and the atmosphere was good - the food was a real disappointment! Not even hot, yet we were there at 11:00 (so the first ones - the food should have been piping hot!). The pumpkin pie was obviously store bought from a grocery store (very disappointing) and the green beans were very under cooked. The entire meal was cheap and pretty much tasteless. It was most definitely NOT worth the $49.00 per person and honestly, not worth that much for the two of us. We could have had the same meal at a Cracker Barrel or any other side of the road diner for less than that. We expected a delicious meal and feel that you took the cheap route to make some money. Sad. We will not be back and would suggest at least home made desserts for THANKSGIVING! for that price!
Hi Paula, Thank you for taking time to review your experience and please accept my sincerest apology that we did not deliver the standard of service we pride ourselves in giving to our guests. At your convenience, please call me at 828-669-8870 to discuss this further. I look forward to speaking with you and welcoming you back in the very near future! With Warmest Regards, Curt Davis General Manager The Monte Vista Hotel
Wanted a place for Sunday brunch in Black Mountain. Had heard good things about Miltons. Good food, good service.
Very nice atmosphere, service was great, and food was delicious.
Nice atmosphere/environment and level of service and clearly a place most consider for special occasions. In our case, the food was not as impressive as we'd hoped and been led to believe by friends, neither entrees nor desserts.
Fred was and excellent server. He is an asset for sure!!!
The menu sounds so good, but the dishes we were served were so disappointing. Salads were nothing special, my pasta entree was described as homemade black pepper pasta with a Bolognese sauce. I received a bowl of floury mushy pasta (no pepper anywhere) with sauce that looked and tasted like jarred sauce from the grocery store. It was tasteless and just a gloppy mess. Not good! The other entrees at the table were just ok. The bread pudding and carrot cake were very dry. Two positives though- the pecan pie was yummy and the cocktails were excellent. The atmosphere is great- inviting and fun. We got out a lot, but we won't go back here for any food. There are too many better places in the Asheville area.
This was our second time dining at Milton's for dinner, and it was not as good as the first experience. We ordered chicken sliders from the child's menu for my grandson, and the adult version was delivered, which comes with hot pepper jam on the sliders. I just happened to catch that before he ate one. The waiter replaced the plate, but we were still billed for the adult version. They corrected the bill. I ordered the beet and berry salad. It was only an appetizer. The item description under "Garden" led me to think that this was a full size salad, not a salad appetizer featuring mostly beets, garnished with a a few strawberries and leaves of arugula around the plate edge for presentation. My son said his iced tea tasted like it was made from instant tea, not fresh brewed. It seems like this is more of a small plate restaurant than anything else, and a bit overpriced for some of the servings.
Wonderful date night with my wife. Thursday is “burger night” at Milton’s. One of the best burgers I have ever had anywhere. Outdoor seating an extra plus with heaters and a linear fireplace. Service staff was excellent and attentive.
The only issue I had with the meal was that the Rabbit and Dumplings were not as identified on the menu.....There were no dumplings. There were hard biscuits.
And it was more like a soup rather than in a gravy.
Fantastic experience. Food was exceptional and the ambience was great. Highly recommend!
Very romantic setting. Food was fantastic! we loved everything we ordered.
A very disappointing experience. We ate here a year ago on a girls trip and it was fabulous. This time the opposite. Bar tender could not get the drinks correct. 3 of the 6 entrees were inedible. Never had such dry fish. We planned to have another drink and deserts but left after the entrees. This was the last night of our trip and extremely disappointing experience. The 3 entrees were comped but the others were tasteless and not worth the money either.
Our Favorite Restaurant in Black Mountain. The Food, Drinks and Service is truly the best around.
had a wonderful meal, jennifer was great, very helpful and added to the relaxed evening. we sat outside, the new fall menu was out and everything was delicious. hope to come back soon and maybe stay in the hotel too
I had a tough decision between the surf (flounder) and turf (hanger steak) and was steered toward the stake. I was not disappointed - it was cooked medium and served over goat cheese mashed potatoes, with a fig sauce. I'm sure I would have been just as satisfied with the flounder. I can most definitely recommend this place.
We love the setting and the staff is consistently a delight. But dinner the night we were there was just off. The food was average at best and we've had EXCEPTIONAL meals in the past. Fish was oddly chewy. Risotto was bland (although plentiful!). Bread pudding should have been hot (instead of room temp and, again, bland). Not ready to give up since it's such a lovely dinner spot and we've had such great food in the past.
For ambiance, wonderful food, friendly staff and just a great experience, go to Milton's at the Monte Vista Boutique Hotel! A definite treasure here in beautiful Black Mountain, North Carolina. A not to be missed experience! The new Owners have done such a wonderful job of highlighting the historical assets of the structure plus have updated it all to an amazing degree. Couldn't recommend it more!
Great brunch place!
We went in on Halloween so everyone had on the best costumes and our server was Jake. He was phenomenal and helped us make the best dinner decisions. Defiantly great food and ambiance.
Fred was an outstanding server! The food was amazing, people were seated at a comfortable distance to enjoy the atmosphere. Thank you, Miltons! Until we come again!
Went for our anniversary. We were served glasses of champagne we didn't order immediately! We were seated outside as requested under twinkling lights and a propane heater was scooted closer and turned on for me we I got cool! Chef prepared a special all veggie plate for me, not on menu, to accommodate my dietary needs! The best!!! Our favorite go to place for celebrations!
The food was absolutely delicious. The flavors were amazing. All four of us got a different dish and tasted each other’s food. It was soooo yummy!!!! Our server Hunter was a great server!
We were visiting the Asheville area with friends. Had a great dinner at Miltons on a Saturday evening. Food was delicious and service was outstanding. We were seated outdoors on a lovely evening (started to rain as we left). The waitress recommended a few appetizers which were very tasty. Her main course recommendations were also excellent. Will return again if in area.
My wife and I have dined here several times since pandemic as the outside seating area is great. We go on Thursday night for “burger night” where a burger, fries and a beer cost $13. A good deal for sure. However, every time the staff seemed puzzled when we asked for ketchup. It takes them from 10 to 15 minutes to serve ketchup in little cups. What’s up with this? Burgers and fries deserve ketchup. The other issue I have occurred at our last dining. The waitress announced the $13 dollar deal but when my bill came it was $15 per burger deal. I didn’t question it this time as we had another couple with us and it had been a lovely evening. Wait staff should be trained better than to announce one price and charge a higher amount on the check. If only the management would realize ketchup goes with burgers and fries and deliver it at the same time of the entree. One should not have to ask and wait.
Milton's was an outstanding dining experience. The food was excellent and the service A+++. We ordered something that we had never had before, just to try something new. Unfortunately, it was not something that complimented our tastes. We shared this with our server and he was so very gracious. Then the dining room manager came by our table and assured us that we would not be charged. Very customer friendly !! We will return!!
Service was very slow - waited at front podium for almost 10 minutes before someone stopped by. Seating was good social distanced. Ambiance is quaint. Bar looks like it would be fun if/when open. Noise level was low, but probably only due to COVID limited occupancy - I imagine the noise level would be quite high, normally. Food was somewhat of a disappointment. I had an $11 (I don't remember the actual cost, but it was high) bowl of luke-warm broth - they call ham-hock soup. My dinner was flounder - which was a piece of flounder - nothing else. My wife ordered beet and berry salad. It arrived as sectioned purple beet, a sectioned yellow (beet?), 1 quartered strawberry arranged on a small plate with balsamic drizzle. Not at all what she expected. Also had deviled eggs. Their recipe is heavy on mayonnaise... not to our liking. Best thing was the heavy pour on the wine :), and the staff was very nice. Overall we were disappointed, especially for the price... but they are practically the only game in town (20 min out) on a busy Asheville weekend.
Delicious food! Always happy when the menu is varied, but everything I've had so far was wonderful!
A gem! Outstanding customer service and delicious and high quality food! A must!
A very nice dining experience. Hostess was friendly. Our server was excellent...explained the menu items well, kept a close eye on our table without being overbearing, enjoyable. The menu had creative seasonal choices and was well prepared and at a good pricepoint. We'll definitely return when in the area.
Fried chicken, excellent. Shrimp and grits, excellent. Steak, very good. Flounder, ok.
Food great some menu items not available . Would go again
