Milton's Black Mountain
The food was expertly prepared and was out of this world!
A gem in Black Mountain . We highly recommend a meal or stay at this great oasis .
Very nice venue for our party of 8. Food was great service was amazing up until the end. Seemed we waited longer than necessary for our check. Other than that everything was above par.
The drinks and service were fantastic! I didn’t care for the cabbage served with the red snapper and this may be just my preference. The mussels were in a cream sauce, which was also very different. The bread was delicious as was my husband’s trout.
What a hidden gem! First class food and great attentive service. I'll definitely go again and again!
Excellent ambiance, cuisine and service. Innovative culinary creations. Nicely updated 1919 hotel. Pleasant bar.
Bachelorette Brunch! Great service and food!
We went for Sunday brunch..The brussel sprouts were perfect but the birthday girl was served eggs Benedict on top of a muffin that was burnt black, so the cost was removed from our bill. The dining room was cozy with a nice fireplace. The server was cheerful.
The food was cold. Sent it back and got more cold food.
Everything that we ate was delicious. I had duck that was roasted and served with celeriac and roasted carrots. It could not have been tastier. My friend had trout with roasted vegetables. Also delectable! The service was quite good. Servers not only did their jobs well, but they were kind, appropriately conversational and knowledgeable about the area.
What a great Valentine's Evening !! The fireplace was glowing & warm as was the wait staff. The food - Magnificent !! The wine - equally as good (& a sufficient pour for the price). Even on a night when they were totally booked, the restaurant was prepared & the chef "up-to-the-task". The Monte Vista has hit a home run with Milton's - we will be back (and bringing friends next time!). Can't wait !!!
Overall it was a 2 star meal in what appears to be a new hotel. Upon entering the lobby the restaurant hostess stand is so not obvious that we went to the hotel check in first. The restaurant had taken over what appears to be the lobby with an odd variety of awkward seating. We were relegated to the after thought dining area which had the ambience of a school cafeteria. Simple rows of tables in a big space. The food was good but a limited Valentines menu. They have a lot of growing up to do.
A little disappointed in the selection of the meal and food was warm not hot. It was Valentines Day and place was packed. We will try again on a less busy day.
I had the Quail special and found it to be dry and lacking in flavor, everything other than that was very good and the sever was excellent. My wife was brought the wrong salad and when server was notified the error was promptly corrected. Room temperature was perfect and the noise level low so conversation was easily possible.
Valentine’s Day menu was great. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Will definitely make Milton’s a restaurant we will take our out of town guest.
Valentine’s Day dinner was nice! The only complaint is that the trout seemed overcooked, dry and not very tasty.
Service and ambiance were very good!
We really enjoyed our evening out at Milton's Black Mountain! Our server, Jennifer, was very engaging and we enjoyed meeting her. The food was outstanding! Shrimp and grits and the Venison small plate were superb; as was the unexpected chocolate fondue which was provided since their chocolate bombe was not available. We shall definitely return.
Lovely restaurant, great service and a fabulous meal! We will definitely be back. Food quality is excellent!
This service here is impeccable. The quality and flavor of the food is outstanding. However, the amount of food you receive is ridiculously small. Our waiter cautioned us the menu items listed under "Plates to Share" were small but each plate received by the four members of our group only had two tiny bites of meat and a tiny bit of something else for $12+ for each plate.
Great service but portions were small for the price.
This is a fine brunch in a lovely setting. Good Menu and great Bloody Mary's. This visit was made special because of Logan, our server. In the past service has not been great so this was a lovely surprise. Nothing forgotten and Logan checked in on us a couple of times to make sure all was well. I especially appreciated that he made sure the eggs were poached as I like them.
Sausage was very good, Bloody Mary was excellent, the little side salads were very good, the scrambled eggs were fine.
However Egg whites in the Eggs Benedict were very runny , roasted potatoes were way overcooked and just short of burned.
Picky things - It took forever to get my drink and I had to flag the waiter to ask about it. It would have been nice if he had proactively come before that and apologized for the delay. The celery in the Bloody Mary was not trimmed and had the dirty looking end on it.
All in all not horrible, but if they want to maintain the image they are trying to portray they need to step up their game.
Everything about our dinner experience would be a 10!!!
The restuarnt and hotel were beautiful and created a wonderful atmosphere.
The pimento Cheese ball was fabulous as was the trout.
Minimal options for offered. For holiday meal —no fish, no beef!! They ran out of most everything by 5pm which made them take out pork which was not prepared with flavor or marinade and was extremely tough. - no marination on the tough pork. They had zero options for HF on menu. Polenta was bland and gritty and served with 2 out 3 entrees - Roulade was very dry very little in the cream kfor taste- no good vanilla or or flavors for the holidays as one would expect. The only saving grace were the pecans but / not why we ordered these deserts.
Overall it was the-worst meal ever we had put
Such a sweet Christmas night!
Little country inn
Great Christmas tree display!!
The food was ok- the service was exceptional!!
I highly recommend it!!
Went with family for Christmas afternoon meal. We are from Black Mountain and parents still live there. We have been to Miltons for other occasions and it was so yummy. The prix fix menu was understandably very limited on the holiday but the food was very lackluster. The pork loin was the best choice, the cauliflower steak was a gamble and we lost - basically no flavor. Those who ordered chicken were not impressed. Everything was just so bland. Our desserts were fine. We were generally disappointed with our food. Our server however, was lovely, the bartender was a delight. The atmosphere @ The Monte Vista never disappoints! Also, good craft beer, nice healthy wine pour, and good Prosecco. We enjoyed the fire on the patio after dinner and left the evening full of love and joy for the togetherness and season! We will go back to Miltons on a regular day - not a big holiday.
Family Christmas dinner. Great place, great food, and great service.
We felt the Christmas menu was not worth the price
Very nice Christmas Dinner! The only complaint I had about the whole experience was that the vegetarian entree was unimaginative. Would definitely return!
Great food, wonderful setting. It's our traditions to go up to the Monte Vista and Milton's at Christmas to see the Festival of Trees and enjoy a meal at Milton's. We've never been disappointed with the ambiance of the hotel or the culinary expertise of Milton's. Highly recommended!
I asked the chef to recommend a dish that was vegan and gluten free. He created a beautiful bowl just for me which was delicious and gorgeous. A great experience, well worth it.
We stayed at Monte Vista while celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. We were there during Dec and wanted to take time and relax and plan a trip to Italy, and explore the town of Black Mountain. I wanted to treat my wife to a great meal, so I emailed Cole, who is the new head chef, and asked him if there was something special that I could do. Cole totally picked up the ball, ran with it, and scored a TD. He and Jennifer, our waitress, served us a 5 course meal that was specially planned and prepared, and was out of this world.
I cannot thank Cole and Jennifer enough for making our 35th extra special! That's the kind of people that are at the Monte Vista, and throughout the town of Black Mountain. I would very definitely recommend Milton's. We'll be back!
We had dinner at the Monte Vista Hotel's restaurant, Milton's, with acclaimed chef, Cole Pate (read his history). Although we loved his menu of small plates to share (we ordered three: red snapper, ribcap beef, roasted trout filet plus an appetizer of sweet potato/shrimp fritters), we will definitely return for his main dishes of ribeye steak, buttermilk fried chicken, and shrimp and grits. Desserts were amazing. We so enjoyed the fifteen or so beautifully decorated Christmas Trees in the main halls and lounge area
We have always loved Milton’s! The ambience, food, drink, and service is excellent!
It took a while to be acknowledged at our table. Once we were, service was good. The food was good, but a bit unremarkable given the reputation. This might be since it was a holiday set menu.
Thanksgiving dinner was delicious with generous portions. Great atmosphere for a destination Thanksgiving for a family of 6.
I was disappointed with the experience, but my husband felt that it was fine. He ordered the ham, which was served in a bowl making it difficult to cut. I was disappointed that no potatoes and gravy came with the turkey. The salad was great. We were given a roll each and that was it. Sorry, I was not impressed. I did hear that the shrimp and grits dinner is good.
The meal was delicious. Got to meet the chef too. A very sweet young man. Very talented.
