Mitchell's Fish Market - Rochester
served grilled, broiled or blackened over your choice of spinach or caesar salad
Food was delicious but the real star of the night was our server!
We visited on a night where they were short staffed so we were patient. Servers were stretched thin so not attentive. The food was just average. Salmon was flavorless and salads were very soggy. Perhaps the kitchen was also short staffed. No Vegan options.
Food was excellent. Seemed Mitchells might also be suffering from the labor shortage.
One of our favorite places to dine in style. Food, service and atmosphere are top-notch. Freshest seafood, skillfully prepared. The kitchen really knows how to cook fish, which is not easy to find. A bonus - it's located in a posh little shopping mall so if you feel like it, after lunch or dinner you can browse the stores.
Food was disappointing for the level of activity in the restaurant.
Shrimp and crab cake entree duo was fabulous. Cod was good, as well as other entrees. Always good fish dishes.
We were celebrating an anniversary and had a perfect dinner experience. The waitstaff and managers were friendly and eager to please. The food was well cooked and tasty.
I thought the food was overcooked was not that tasty
Our waiter was the best ever, his recommendation of the sea bass was awesome!
Always a great dining experience.
Our server Dave was AMAZING. He knew the menu like the back his hand. He was very helpful in helping us select our dinner option as well as our cocktail order.
Service was great- Food was good- vegetables were a bit under cooked and not much flavor. Crab legs were expensive but great.
Great seafood selection. Meal was wonderful and recommendation from waiter to have fish blackened was awesome.
The Sommelier had on such strong cologne that we did not bother to taste the wine but chose to have a direct pour and then wait 10 minutes for the smell to leave before we tasted the wine.
The Sea Bass was so drenched in oil and salt that we could not taste the fish. The Crab Cake and Shrimp was mostly tasteless.
This is a 1 star restaurant with a 5 star price.
Understand why it was empty.
Everything was great. I ordered the blackened sea bass. It was delicious, although it was very thick and a little bit undercooked (in my opinion). I did not request to have it sent back, but based on how nice our waiter was, I’m sure it would have been addressed. :)
We had a wonderful meal. However our reservation was for dining outside. When we got there we could not be seated outside. I even called ahead to confirm that we were eating outside. I was very upset that we had to eat inside as I have not eaten inside a restaurant because of Covid.
Tyrone was an excellent waiter. His people skills and customer service will be forever remembered
Noise level was boisterous. Food was good. Service was not good but I could see the waiter was extremely busy and did his best. The shark fin pie was phenomenal. My husband rates the shrimp pasta , hush puppies, and pomegranate martini excellent. The Shanghai seafood sampler was good as was my cocktail.
Restaurant was pretty empty at 6 pm on a Saturday night. Now I know why......two of three meals were disappointing. The 'shrimp and crab linguini' had literally a pinch of the white crab shreds, like literally a teaspoon. There was only three tiny 1/4" pieces of zucchini and two cherry tomatoes cut in half with about one cup of pasta and some peas. Now, most places that are going to charge you over $25 for a Bowl of pasta, you literally get a bowl of pasta. My bowl was less than half full. The garlic bread was literally bigger than the entree to give perspective. Second meal was swordfish. Served seared, raw inside (not ordered that way!). We googled swordfish bc we never get it. We love oysters, ahi and raw sushi and all the things like that but raw swordfish, is a hard no. Sent it back bc yuck!. By the time the kitchen remade it correctly, everyone was done with their meals. So that was disappointing. No comp meal for the raw swordfish error (I didn't complain about the lackluster pasta). I did get a bday dessert for mostly free ($8 value max).
Service was good.
Manhattan was fabulous.
Appetizers were good.
We had a wonderful experience at Mitchell's! It was our anniversary and David, the waiter who served us, was especially attentive and professional. He was training a coworker and both of them were extremely helpful and efficient! They created a wonderful evening! We ordered the maple.pecan encrusted trout and the crabcake and shrimp platter. Both choices were excellent! Also I added the house salad that was truly delicious!
The Pecan Encrusted Trout was very good. The Parmesan Chicken was good. The Creme Brule was outstanding.
The service was very good as usual. The food was prepared as I requested and was also very good.
What a wonderful experience ! They were short staffed but everyone was working together for all of the customers . Excellent food snd service .
Will NOT return
Little food for big money
Carrot cake was very DRY
Great food. Good service. Happy with my overall experience.
We've been here many times, but the food was cold, they were under staffed, took forever to get our order in, no hand towels in the bathroom.
Also, either the word is out that service has been bad, or everyone is afraid of the Delta variant BS, cause the place was dead. Biden destroying America. The world has gone insane.
I wouldn’t be back, they were out of the oysters by 4 PM, which is what I came for. However, I really tried to give it a chance. It was super cold inside, like too cold. Also, my food was not good. I got the seafood Americana and they didn’t clean off the scallops very well, I had sand in every bite. Not worth it to me. The Mitchell’s in Livonia was way better. If I ever happen to want Mitchell’s again I’ll be sure to remember that the one in Rochester wasn’t it.
We're always in a hurry and Tyrone, our server in the lounge, make it happen.
I ordered the very rich Lobster Bisque and added a lobster tail to take it over the top. We also shared a Shrimp Cocktail and Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp platter. Of course, we had a few carafes of 14 Hands Cabernet.
We were out the door in a remarkable 30 minutes!!! Thanks, Tyrone!
Normally they are very good here, we have been coming for many years. This visit they seemed short staffed - our waiter was nice but had many tables. He didn't check back on us very often - we were out of water and drinks for awhile before the main course even came. We skipped getting dessert since it would probably take a long time. My scallops were very overdone also. Perhaps this is just normal now with staffing issues in service industry. We will try again in a few months.
Good selection and great food. Service was okay considering the lack of workers due to covid.
My husband and I went there for our anniversary, we decided to do lunch instead of dinner. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and wished a "Happy Anniversary ". Our server, David, was excellent. He made suggestions regarding food and drinks, he also made sure everything was to our liking. We will definitely return and will hopefully have David as our server!!!
Mitchell's has always been a favorite of ours for seafood. This was our first visit "post-lockdown" in Michigan. They do appear to be short-handed like most restaurants in the area, so we did have to wait a little longer than "normal" for our drink orders to arrive; however our waitperson was very friendly and understanding.
We love Mitchell's and come here anytime we want an local upscale seafood meal that is consistently good. I am sure it is due to the crazy employment situation right, now but we were there 3 HOURS! We did order drinks appetizers, the main, and dessert. However, everything to SO LONG to get. The waiter was attentive but explained that they had one bar tender so our drinks too a long time to arrive. The food was even longer. Not sure if they are short staffed in the kitchen too but it definitely was the slowest service I have EVER HAD there. Food was still great but I think I might hesitate going again.
Great food, especially the fish dishes! Service very good. Outside seating for summer eating. Their Happy Hour is one of the best !
We had a lovely time. The food was great and the staff efficient and friendly. Air conditioning was set too high though.
Nice evening out
