Mr Chow - Beverly Hills
Salt & Pepper Prawns
Squab with Lettuce
Great service along with delicious food. I just wish the seating area was a little bigger , I felt like I was rubbing elbows with neighbors
Great classic restaurant. Love it. .
Been going at least 40 years
Always excellent food service remain consistent and always reliable
Overbooked. Did not seat us on time. When asked how long was told by manager "We'll do our best. Don't know. Might be better to come back another night". So left.
We have been guests for some 30 years. It was always a lively place and the food is delicious.
However, over times management does not live up to the standards.
Last Saturday, it was crowded with both rooms on the ground floor very busy und a private party upstairs.
The noise was unbearable, the guests were yelling at each other and above all there was loud music played.
Very unpleasant. No conversation possible across the table.
The service or the kitchen, I don’t know who is 5he culprit, was not up to it.
We ordered each a starter. A first starter was served, a second starter came 20 minutes later.
The water of the finger bowl was warm and then removed and the finger bowls for the duck were ice cold. A detail, sure, but an important one.
Not sure I will make it again !
A great place for a celebration of any kind. And fun people watching!
Amazing food, great atmosphere and second to none service
Mr. Chow was a great experience with impressive service and professional staff. The food was delicious. And, the dessert! WOW!
Delicious ...the food is a favorite . I love eating their food. Nowhere else has the flavors and combination of tastes like Mr. Chow. Is it expensive? Absolutely. Is the service ...good not really. The portions are small so do not hesitate to over order. I did not love the desserts.
The best food an service, as usual.
Very disappointing. Food quality was uneven, and the service was bad, everything from not responding to customers all the way to forgetting about orders - we got one of our sides after the meal was finished!!
And the place is packed like sardines - how is this not a fire hazard. We really did not get why this place is considered so good - no one in the tables around us seemed to be happy either!
We love the ambience here but nothing else about it is great. In the past, service was great, very engaged and efficient, last night service was not good. The food is tasty but wildly overpriced. Having been here before, we knew that but didn’t mind because the service and ambience were worth paying for. Don’t think I’ll go back based on last night. Outrageous price to pay for being ignored (also seated 1/2 hour past reservation time, which is no big deal if everything else is good but ... )
the restaurant in general was fine, the food was very good, but the tables are very close to each other, what is uncomfortable because you cannot talk with calmness, I went with my wife we were anniversary and we felt very uncomfortable to be Very similar to other tables and mobility is also difficult to access the months or go to the bathroom to give an example.
My husband and I come here all the time! Excellent service excellent food excellent drinks!
I heard this was a definite dining spot to check out while visiting LA but honestly would not recommend. Food was fine, nothing amazing and felt like we were at a fast food restaurant. Servers were taking orders quickly and rushing around as if to get you in and out as soon as possibly. For the first course we ordered the chicken satay and it came out raw so we had to send it back. The server was not apologetic at all and made it seem like it was us. Told us he would ask for it to be “well done” Really! You need to specify well done for chicken! For the price, you could get better food in LA for sure! Don’t bother with the hype and check somewhere else!
Went for my friends birthday and it was exceptional as usual. I was surprised and delighted that they brought him a birthday cake. Unexpected delight!
Thanks hoe providing so many great years of service.
We drove in from Montecito and it was so worth the drive!
Never in my life time I been here and got ignored thru all the course of food And food was good but I was expecting the regular menu to order the stuff I normally order that was the main reason to come but I couldn’t and it was was just horrible all around. Pretty much paid 300$ to be ignored. The only thing that did it’s job was the napkin.
We go every year for one meal. It’s a Hollywood stable and kitsch but fun, and kind of a bucket list light check mark meal. However this time it was faded glory. A bit messier. A bit more random. A bit less tidy, less shiny, less special. It’s HOLLYWOOD heyday charm has sadly diminished, and if I’m going to spend $1000 on a meal for four in the future I will try somewhere new, and let my fond memories of Mr Chows remain like it, in the past.
Normally, Mr Chows is one of my absolute favorite LA restaurants. However, we decided to go on Valentine’s Day. What an unmitigated disaster. Top to bottom one of the worst dinning experiences I’ve had living in LA.
- Hip hop music blasting from speakers. I love hip hop, but not at max level while I’m trying to have a romantic dinner and conversation.
- The price fix menu was atrocious and missing all but one or two of chows signature dishes. I am not price sensitive. Normally, an evenings tab at Chow is in the $400-$500 range... tonight was only $275 but I never felt so ripped off.
- Nearly all the plates were served cold... meaning they were sitting back in the kitchen pre made and just being served cafeteria style. Not acceptable for a restaurant of this caliber.
- The wait staff showed literally zero interest in serving and getting them to do basic things like deliver soy sauce, salt or refill a soda was painful and required long waits. The minute the waiter saw that we weren’t going to run a huge alcohol tab, he basically lost all interest. Also, he was not even remotely willing to make any effort to accommodate any of our dietary needs.
- We had food wrapped to go home... why Im not sure, but if we didn’t insist on them returning it to our table, they would’ve let us leave without it. At the same time, they were super pushy about giving us a free rose that looked downright sickly. Literally no effort or thought was put into any of this.
We live in BH and are used to the attitude at Chows and normally, we are fine with it. It’s an institution, but tonight, it was more institutional. It felt like eating in a cafeteria. Further, it felt like an anti-customer appreciation night... we are going to just show up, serve cold food and hope we can squeeze some alcohol dollars.
We haven’t gone to a restaurant on Valentine’s Day in 10+
Years specifically because we know this is how many restaurants behave on days like this and now chows has reconfirmed this view.
Amazing food and service, a little over priced. Champagne per glass $23.
Didn’t know it was a preset menu. The duck was overcooked and cold. I usually love Mr. Chow, just not on holidays I guess.
Worst dining experience I’ve had in a long time.
Love mr chow. The best restaurant in LA. Food service atmosphere and everything on point.
Food is great. Wish had more choices from regular menu instead of limited Valentine’s menu. But did a great job on such a busy Valentine’s Day night.
The food was grossly overpriced and especially for the quality. It was wholly unremarkable. The waiter upsold us too much food. We should have gone to PF Changs. For a fraction of the price at least it would have had flavor. So disappointing!
Everyone was welcoming and kind except for the hostess woman that worked on the evening of 02/08. She was rude, unwelcoming and unaccommodating. Thankfully the gentleman who is always so helpful stepped in to accommodate us.
Really fun place for a special night out. Food prices certainly not for the faint of heart. The wait service is among the best in the city. They always seem to make you feel famous even if you're not.
Reliable as always
Mr Chow’s is still very much the place to go and be seen in West Hollywood but increasingly I’m hearing people ask, “but why?”. The bartenders are incredibly poor and don’t even pretend to have any pride in making drinks. With an average bill of $100 a head and a suggested 18% service charge - the waiters feel no need to bother to provide any reasonable service (no one asking how food was, no one seeing if we need anything etc), The kitchen didn’t even have all the items on the menu which for a restaurant of this price and reputation is incredibly poor. If you want to spot a celeb then check it out. But otherwise, like many other people are deciding to do these days, I’d avoid.
Haven’t been to Mr. Chow in decades. Good for them for contonuing popularity but I won’t be back. Noise on Friday night was deafening and it’s a small room with terrible acoustics. Food is fine if pricey but you can’t have a conversation without screaming to get heard. Maybe lunch is quieter.
Amazing as always
Service impecable... what a nice pleasant and friendly people
Had a great time
And the food delicious!!!
Having eaten in the London and Miami branches of this franchise we were slightly disappointed with the LA venue. The room was small but intimate the service was exceptional but the real disappointment was the food which was just an average meal at a the usual high end Chow prices.
Fun, lively, busy and glamorous atmosphere. But not private or secluded and tables are very close together. Food is tasty but of course it's Chinese, so it's super heavy and not great for a night out. Vibe and crowd are very "Beverly Hills" and "Hollywood Hills" - everyone is there to be seen. But far from a young crowd - much older.
I just loved everything about Mr. Chow experience. The ambiance, the service, the food, cocktails, the attention we got for the special event and the noodle making show!
The service was wonderful and for the price you would hope for that. The food was good but not exceptional unfortunately. A bit overpriced. Wanted to see what the hype was about. Wasn’t a bad experience but likely won’t return anytime soon.
Our server, Antonio, is the best!! Great attention to detail. He remembered me from my previous visit. Took care of my allergy request. He never miss a moment to provide excellent service, without smothering us. Thanks Antonio!!
