Nakato 'Sushi Bar and Regular Dining' Japanese Restaurant
"I love the relaxed feel of this place. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
Excellent service and food options
We ordered sushi and appitizers. We really enjoyed the food, and the service was excellent! Everyone was super friendly and attentive, right down to the valet drivers. We would definitely reccomend, and will be adding this to our list of favorites in Atlanta!
Awesome service and sushi delicious balance of sashimi and sushi rice perfectly done. I love sushi. Sushi in Japan, certified sushi Master’s here on east coast. This quality is as good. The cod was not that great. I’ve had better. But the service, ambiance, and the “Take Bamboo” made up for that. Will be coming back next time I’m in Atlanta.
Fast seating, great atmosphere, great food and drinks. Waiters very professional
And have answers.
Beautiful authentic Japanese decor and amazing sushi
It was absolutely wonderful!! They seated us by the rock garden window. We were celebrating my birthday and everything was perfectly timed and delicious!!
needs better atmosphere. but food was great!!! people amazing -lets update and roll on
Love it every time
The TOP Japanese restaurant in Atlanta. Incredible sushi - wonderful authentic Japanese - top Hibachi - and a traditional Japanese dining area that is very special. Run by the Takaharas this is the most consistent and top quality Japanese restaurants. HIGHLY recommended for all occasions!!
We hadn't been to Nakato in years, but it did not disappoint. The crispy tuna and grilled eggplant with miso butter were standouts, but our sushi was delicious too and the service was A-one.
Nakato is a great Atlanta restaurant. Warm ambience, unbelievably good service, and the best sushi in Atlanta.
Outstanding Food, great service. We went for Christmas dinner and had the sushi and it was really really good. I had chef choice platter and the server was very knowledgable and explained all the pieces to me. Very authentic, my son even spoke in Japanese to our server. But be careful of the soup, it comes hot with a top on the bowl, if you aren't careful you can spill the bowl because the steam causes a vacuum holding the top on a little. Found out the hard way. Also the only parking is valet parking so keep that in mind. We always go out for holiday dinners, will definitely be back to try the Ramen and we want to try the private dining room.
Excellent wait service. Mixed Tempura was very good. House salad was just OK. Red bean ice cream was also very good.
Noise level was high. Difficult to have conversation
Food was delicious and the service was attentive and professional.
Thanksgiving: Excellent service and food, beautiful place
Kay was a very hospitable server. The restaurant noise level was exceptionally loud as a result of a very drunk large party.
The sushi was decent, but not in relation to the price point. I ordered the lobster roll and the crab on top was basically some kind of mushy paste.
I plan to go back and try the Hibachi side of the restaurant. Fingers crossed!
One of our favorite authentic Japanese restaurants in Atlanta. We have gone back for years time and time again. Love them!
GLUTEN FRIENDLY!!! I suffer from celiacs disease and was under the impression that my love for hibachi would have to die along with my ability to consume gluten. However, after a quick email exchange with the head chef at the Midtown location, I found out that Nakato DOES offer gluten free alternatives to many of their traditional menu items. When we arrived, the waitress was happy to bring me a designated gluten free menu and was sure to reiterate when she placed my entree (scallop and chicken hibachi) in front of me that it was gluten free. I am three days post visit now and can say that I have had no reactions to the food. Since this was a special occasion, we chose to sit in the dining room as opposed to a hibachi grill, so I would be sure to ask if your food could be cooked first at the hibachi or prepared in the kitchen if you have a severe sensitivity/ allergy in order to avoid cross contamination.
Nakato is a fabulous restaurant with superb staff, excellent food, and a reasonably priced menu. There are fine dining options as well as more budget friendly fare. They do a fantastic job of taking care of their customers and I absolutely recommend it.
10/10, a fantastic sushi experience. Chose this spot for our anniversary dinner and couldn't have been happier with the experience.
This was an absolutely fabulous experience. Best sushi we ever had. Our service was perfect and even management checked on us several times. It was my partner’s birthday and they made it very special. We WILL be back.
Omakase is the way to go if you love fresh, seasonal sushi! But be sure to read up on the etiquette of eating it! I was beyond impressed and so was my date. I love sitting at the sushi bar and learning about the people, restaurant, and sushi. The service is beyond fantastic and it’s got to be the best sushi in Atlanta. Their presentation is always a piece of art.
Nakato is the most delicious, cosmopolitan Japanese restaurant that I know in Atlanta. Always outstanding sushi, interesting menu additions, and thoughtful recommendations. Somethimes servers will try too hard, but overall a most pleasant experience.
We came for the sukiyaki and was not disappointed.
We had a wonderful time! I have to say everything was great, the food, the service and the restaurant. Our waiter was funny, knowledgeable and attentive! Will go again soon!
Fantastic as always! Best sushi in Atlanta. 👍
Wonderful staff. Food is 4.5 stars. Very quiet at sushi bar.
VERY good food. VERY! the service was kind and gracious but food arrival wasn't particularly timed well- the plates were kind of stacked up on our small table until we finished our starters. But, this restaurant is authentic- which is what i want most when i go to a sushi restaurant. Get the Japanese Mushrooms!
Going to Nakato is more about the atmosphere than the food. While the latter is OK, if you are expecting a high-end sushi experience, you will be disappointed. But you will be happy with a neighborhood sushi experience.
We ordered a few appetizers and a couple of rolls.
The appetizers were disappointing, nothing stood out as a must have on a return visit. The first was the yakatori skewers, two 4” skewers with a few bites of chicken interspersed with some scallion. The was little, if any flavor to this dish. The Shumai were not much better. Three steamed shrimp dumplings which were really a dumpling of onions, topped with a little shrimp. I would be surprised if these were made on site. The shrimp tempura consisted of three shrimp, plus a slice of tempura squash, sweet potato and shredded potatoes. The best of was the squash. The shrimp were tasteless, with no seasoning.
For my entrée, I ordered two rolls, a Dragon Roll and an eel and avocado roll. The eel and avocado roll was nothing special, very little taste in the eel and the sushi rice was very basic. The Dragon Roll was better. The shrimp tempura did deliver some flavor.
While the food was very basic, neighborhood sushi, the atmosphere was so friendly, that we would probably return. Next time, we would add a little salt to the tempura and order some sashimi.
Outstanding service and delicious food. A favorite!
Always top notch! Food is fresh and extremely well prepared. The staff is always friendly and courteous. With the different types of food offered, this is a wonderful place! Family friendly too
Always a wonderful dining experience. Staff are extremely friendly and the food is fresh and top notch. We love the traditional dining room and sushi bar. We love how the owners make sure everyone is having a great time.
It was our 27th Anniversary
The Fuji Chef's choice deluxe sashimi was excellent as was the special Japanese Uni sushi. Great restaurant to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary.
I was taking my husband out for a belated birthday dinner. We both love sushi and Japanese cuisine so I thought we would give Nakato a try. Our reservation was for 5:45 in the regular dinning room. We were promptly seated when we arrived. I had made the reservation a few weeks before so we were surprised we were not seated next to the garden window as quite a lot of the tables “with a view” were empty and remained empty while we were there. We ordered the Kiss Of Death roll for our appetizer which was very good. I ordered the TRADITIONAL JAPANESE BENTO "SHOKADO" BENTO BOX for my main course and my husband ordered lobster and fillet mignon HIBACHI TEPPANYAKI. The Bento Box would probably of been good if my husbands dinner didn’t arrive at least 30 min after mine arrived. Like most people do, I was being polite and waiting until his dinner was served to eat mine. By that time the tempura that was part of my dinner was cold and soggy as was the rice and everything else that should have been eaten hot. The waiter came over quite a few times apologizing stating the Hibachi kitchen was backed up as well as the manager came over quite a few times also. When the order was put in they should have realized that the Hibachi kitchen was backed up and waited to prepare my dinner so the timing would of been better with the timing of my husbands. The length of time we waited for my husband’s dinner should have been compensated by the manger at least offering a free desert or something. Considering we live 45 minutes away and that is if there isn’t any traffic this was a planned dinner not a spur of the minute decision. We definitely WILL NOT come back the food nor the customer service were worth the money, time or effort.
Fantastic food, impeccable service and great ambiance!
Nakato is an island in a sea of trendy and new restaurants. Which is why you need to go- old school charm that has stood the test of time. I defy you to have a bad experience here. Service is top notch and the entire staff is ready to help you. As for the sushi, which is flown in several times a week so it's always fresh- thanks largely in part to Chef Yoshifusa Kinjo. You must try the saki, I can't think of a more comprehensive selection and my waiter was extremely knowledgeable about picking a great beverage to compliment my meal. The best thing for your second trip is to reserve one of the Tatami rooms, which is a traditional Japanese dining room. Since 1972 Nakato has been serving metro Atlanta and once you dine there you'll see why. A taste of Japan in the south!
Loved the specialty rolls and our party found the service outstanding. We will be back!
Food was amazing. One of the tastiest sushis I ate so far. The restaurant needs a bit outdated and also dress code needs to be more of a business casual. I've seen people wearing shorts.
Also it is a nice gesture when you are celebrating a birthday not to be charged for your small dessert.
As a conclusion food is excellent, the rest need improvement.
