Right now it's all take out but the food is amazing, especially the tacos and the steak was great. For breakfast the eggs are sooooo good--I liked the fish and chips too. Wonderful staff under trying times. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Avocado toast was good, not so keen on the clams
Fabulous food and service! Festive vibe.. loved the Skyview motel and Normans. Can’t wait to return!!
What a great gem! The Notman has a limited menu right now but if you are vegetarian or have special dietary needs, they do a great job, They have an amazing burger as well as chicken dish and you must try the ahi crisps for an appetizer.
So delicious and a fun stylish atmosphere.
I was so hoping for a better experience . The food was average . Their charcuterie was mediocre at best . The cheese was presented in small cubes and only two kinds , both common ( I think they were gouda & cheddar ) The salami was the only good item .
My salad was a lot of greens and not much else . My main was undistinguished .
The menu is shy on choices .
Love the cool vibe!
Great service! Hardworking attentive crew! Good wine list. Delicious crispy skin salmon. Awesome wagyu burger, turkey club and carnitas tacos! Nice outdoor dining adjacent to pool area. Laidback, very relaxing atmosphere.
Creative menu, well presented, relaxed ambiance. I come here alone fairly often and am always impressed.
Everything we ordered was flavorful, fresh, and seasonal. Nice to sit outside in these covid times. All personnel we encountered from the were friendly and accommodating. Our server was great. We will be back.
Enjoyed an evening dinner with friends. Food was outstanding!!!
Great vibe. Stylish and fun. Pool area nice and good drinks and service. Loved the feel of the restaurant and all good food except crazy oversalted fries
There were only two things that stuck out that were bad. We had to walk up a really big hill to the restaurant and the group next to us were super loud. Other than that the burger was great and same with the Brussel sprouts. Next time we’ll stay at the hotel so we can eat there without feeling like we’re climbing Everest
Anniversary, food was good ! Service was the best you could get they were slammed early at 5pm with only two servers . We enjoyed the food and service , was it perfect no . The long walk up the hill is definitely a downfall .
Outside dinning with people around the pool was not my idea of perfect atmosphere with the price you pay . We’re a cocktail before dinner and wine with dinner kind of people .
I would return for drinks and appetizers but not for dinner unless I was spending the night there .
It’s pool bar and restaurant. I think it’s good for hotel guest. But not destination for dinner
Nice environment and they’re handling Covid well. We had our dog and were seated oh the side (outdoors of course) and it was quite chilly. Just around the back it was fine - and there were plenty of tables. Would have been nice to have been seated out of the wind.
Steak was great. Fish was not. Sent it back as it was so fishy tasting that it was not good. They were great about it. Crème brûlée was outstanding.
We had a drink at the bar, a nice conversation with the bar tender and decided to stay seated there for dinner. We had the pesto squash the summer spinach salad the Bates burger and house made chorizo and clam capellini, all of it was exceptional, cocktails were great too!
My partner and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at Norman at the Skyview and loved every minute. The vegetarian Corn and Carrot entree was one of the best dishes we’ve ever had. Incredible service and beautiful atmosphere. Solid 5 star!
Three birthdays. Just a fun time for a bunch of girls
Compltely flavorless mac and cheese. Asked the staff if it was Mexican or spanish chorizo in an entre , they did not know. Returned from the kitchen with the answer that it was “house made” and it was spanish. Dish I received had no chorizo in it. It did have sausage, but it was not chorizo. It was a bland, flavorless meat. Did not ad anything yo the seafood other than grease.
This old motel has tuned into a very cool updated property!
We just found it on yelp since we were up wine tasting and we were very happy with our visit! Great food, drinks and ambiance!
One stop on our 30 year anniversary road trip
The Hotel and grounds are very cool. The menu at the restaurant is very limited... the vegetable dishes were good... the salmon looked like it was farmed salmon and it was extremely fishy and un eatable. The steamed clams didn’t seem very fresh...
The food was FANTASTIC and the service just as amazing. Such a great experience!
Great service and drinks. The place is beautiful. Food is always good.
I had high hopes for the Norman but every single moment that should’ve gone well, ended horribly. 25 minutes before our drinks were delivered; no communication that one of our dishes was sold out; undercooked inedible salmon; music shutting on and off throughout the restaurant; staff ignoring reservation details like it was my parents birthdays.
The atmosphere was marvelous, the potential was there. I hope my experience was a rarity and that short staffing was simply the issue. However, given the cost and plethora of great food options in Los Alamos/Los Olivos, I won’t be back to see if that was the case.
The Valentine’s Day menu was not worth it. Maybe on a normal evening the food is better but will not risk going back to find out.
Overall pretty positive and we will definitely go back again. This was our first try with them and it may not have been their best so another try is in order.
Pros: Staff was friendly. Food had good flavor. Setting and decor was fun. Didn't try Craft Cocktails but looking forward to getting back there again to try those.
Cons: Menu is very limited. Bacon on the burger was grisly and chewy. Dining room was pretty cold because of the open windows.
It was our first time visiting the restaurant. The parking situation was not ideal. The restaurant was a bit dark for the taste! Our server overcharged us & if we hadn’t noticed they’ve would of gotten away with it too!
Fantastic. Always a date night favorite. We will be back again
The only negative thing I can say is that as we walked in, instead of greeting us with “hello how are you tonight”, the first thing hostess said was “do you have a reservation”as if barking at us that we would not get in if we didn’t !...other than that it was wonderful !
Perhaps our experience might have been better during their dinner time. Food was mediocre and I had to ask the bar tender that I was missing toast from my meal.
We were seated right away as the restaurant was not busy. There was only one server/hostess and one bar tender. Should be able to handle the 4 tables. The service needs improvement. The server did not provide salt and pepper, and was more interested in folding napkins than providing service.
Our fries were cold, and we asked for extra plates so we could eat the rest of our food while waiting for new fries. She went to the kitchen and did not return. The bar tender brought us a plate to share, 5 minutes later.
The food was good, and the homemade lemonade was awesome.
The music was too loud and we were accommodated when we asked for it to be turned down.
We have been here before, but probably will not come back as management needs to figure out that they need to hire people who can multi task, or hire more people.
I realize that staffing is difficult to predict, but the restaurant on a Friday night was not busy.
The server was nice, but maybe they need a bus person to help with table setting, drinks, et cetera.
It just didn’t start out right from the beginning. We arrived at sunset on a chilly night with windows and bar door wide open. They did light the fire and close the door and windows, but the music was way too loud. If customers were all in 20’s and ‘30’s it would have been perfect, but we are elderly and so was the other table of 4 on a slow night. Our server said she could turn it down “a little, but not too much”. She was quite young and inexperienced at her job. When we asked for separate checks she said she would split it. She seemed incapable of doing what we asked. I have enjoyed Norman’s several times, but I’ll try them one more time as I love the setting and want them to succeed!
Quiet, and cozy. The food was great. Had a perfect booth by the fireplace. So nice to be able to eat and carry on a conversation without straining to hear
Highly recommended.
The place is very nice but the food was not good. Had a New Years Eve four course meal, the Oysters were almost frozen and my three Scallops were overpowered by a sweet yam puree which is all I could taste. My first Margarita was very good and my second was in a different style glass that was half the size. Probably won't be going back.
We visited Norman on New Year’s Eve and again on New Year’s Day for brunch as we were staying at the Skyview Motel. Overall, it’s a gorgeous looking place and it is difficult to judge on our experience since these were both ‘special event’ services but generally speaking, overall it was just ok.
The NYE prix fixe was great value at $65 for four courses but our oysters came out literally frozen (oyster ice pops are not recommended) and my beet and burrata salad was far too cold, coming straight out of the fridge. They also brought out the first course when our appetizers were still on the table which was kind of annoying. Entrees were tasty, I had duck and my partner enjoyed his scallops. Desserts, an eggnog cheesecake and chocolate torte, were average.
On the drinks front, the whiskey cocktail my partner had was well made and delicious but I ordered a gin gimlet and was served what I later found out was a cocktail from their happy hour menu (the Poolside) which wasn’t on the dinner drinks menu at all. I know it seems a small issue but I love gimlets and the waitress said they could do it, so the result was really disappointing and confusing. If they’d said they couldn’t make it, I’d have ordered something else but to serve me a completely different drink was odd. Plus they have a full bar and all the spirits listed in the menu so, I don’t know what happened there.
Brunch on New Year’s Day was much of the same, food was good (we both had tasty BLTAs) but the service sadly lacking. For example, we had to chase our coffees after twenty minutes and then ask for cream and sugar and eventually gave up on getting spoons. Plus they kept the door to the pool area open and it was freezing.
I would eat at Norman again if we’re at the Skyview, partly because of limited options in the area and partly because I’m keen to see what they can do when it isn’t New Year’s but if you’re only in town for one night, I’d definitely forego this and head into Los Alamos proper.
Service was slow, but it was to be expected as it was Christmas Eve,
We loved the food and we love the way the place is decorated. This place is a gem.
Norman's is too dark and at the music a bit loud. It was a Monday evening so other than one other couple it was just the two of us. We started with a mixed cheese and meat platter accompanied with a half baguette. Tasty but nigh impossible to see! (When we were waiting for a ride on another evening we could see diners using the flashlights on their mobile phones.) The entrees were a Jidori chicken and diver scallops. Both well cooked - the scallops not over done - but served too soon as we were just finishing our hors d'oeuvres. The one thing about not able to see our plates very well one was open to surprises on the end of our forks! We had requested the entrees not be prepared until we were done with our first course. We will come back, but be armed with flashlights!
