What a treat to get back to in room dining. Wife and I sat upstairs outside, had a great view, wait staff was fantastic, and food was top of the line. Get the Salmon Lollipops. Will return next time in town.
Sooo delicious! Sushi is always so fresh! Food is amazing! Roof top patio is a great place for lunch! Will be back often!!!
great service. sat on the rooftop.
everything was delicious.
Good sushi. Enjoyed the spinach salad. Would return. A bit pricey but portion sizes good.
Went for sushi and had a really nice time - cocktails were fresh and creative, apps were a highlight (seared shishito peppers and yellowtail sashimi were highlights). Sushi rolls were fairly limited in range, and many had cream cheese included in them
Slow start with some confusion about who our waitstaff person was supposed to be, but once that was cleared up the service was just fine. Delicious food, generous portions, attractive interior space. Try sitting upstairs in the outdoor space where there’s a terrific view of harbor.
Visited for restaurant week. Great ambiance and service. Food was delicious and I would recommend.
Went on a date with my wife for Restaurant Week. We got drinks beforehand at Uncorked and Bluewater Grill and had an amazing time at both. We were excited to go to Oku, but were so disappointed. Beautiful setting on the waterfront. Interior was very LA (glam/glitzy). Hostesses were rude & arrogant. Server rolled his eyes when I requested Restaurant Week Menu. He became unattentive after my menu request. Server became condescending and rude as the nite went on. Food was decent, but if I'm going out for Japanese there are tons of other restaurants in Santa Barbara that are much better. Also bathrooms had no paper towels. Very disappointed and definitely never go back. The glam/glitzy overpriced restaurants with so-so food and poor service don't last in SB.
Wonderful restaurant. Love the cauliflower dish. We went during restaurant week and they made a special sushi roll for our vegetarian guest. Excellent wine list.
Great but way too noisy.
We tried OKU for restaurant week and did the prix fixe menu. It was awesome. We did order a couple of sides because we were starving. Everything was great. Recommend the wings and cauliflower.
Wonderful food, wonderful staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience!
the place is elegant, the food was out of the ordinary, well prepared. however, the servings were a bit too small, and the noise level in the restaurant was way too high. could not hear my guests, very straining to have any conversation.
Enjoyed the food and service. Ambiance would have been better if they didn’t allow a crowd 3 deep at the bar in front of our table. Mentioned it to the waiter and he agreed it was loud but didn’t do anything about it.
Don’t sit at a table near the bar ( and there are 3 bars)
The cauliflower dish is amazing! Don't hesitate on anything on the menu! My husband & I ate there twice in 1 week that's how much we enjoyed it. First visit was at the sushi bar, everyone was very friendly. Second visit was upstairs on the patio overlooking the beach which was even nicer :) Great addition to that area, parking behind the restaurant.
My friend and I went to oku for the first time because it was participating in restaurant week. The restaurant is very loud and thus difficult to have a conversation. The appetizers were the best part of the meal. My friend ordered the cauliflower and I had the spinach and mushroom salad. Both were excellent. Then the main meal came. I have the sushi roll-the first on the outside was dry and overall pretty tasteless. My friend had the flat iron steak and she said it was bad meat and chewy. The desserts were ok. We had the cream brûlée and cheese cake. Then when we asked for the check the server disappeared for longer than 10 minutes. As she was walking by I flagged her down and asked where the check was and she said, oh sorry I have it right here. She was not coming to our table with the check, I had to get her attention. Not great service.
I won’t be running back to this restaurant any time soon.
I never thought I’d say this, but Cauliflower and Shishito Peppers were some of this best things I’ve eaten. Drink service was a bit slow, but meal was great.
Unlike some other restaurant experiences during restaurant week, Oku did not scrimp on service or quality of the food. Thank You!
What a great new addition to the Santa Barbara scene! The food was delicious - it’s a very well-thought-out menu, so there was something for everyone, even the non-sushi eaters in the group. We sat outside and enjoyed watching the sunset over Stewart’s Wharf - you really can’t beat that view! Our server was super sweet and very knowledgeable - she knew the entire menu inside and out, and gave some great recommendations. We’ll be back for sure!
Oku is the place to be! There is no better place to have your amazing view of the Pacific Ocean! When you make a reservation make sure to ask for a table on the second floor. Great place for lunch too! Any time of day you will be warmly greeted by the owners and their team. The food is wonderful!
This is my second time at Oku and this place is pretty close to perfect! There were four of us and we shared everything and it was all superb. We had the cauliflower appetizer and mushroom salad, which when ordering I was like ok healthy, but when I tasted them amazing. The levels of flavor on each dish was stellar. We had one sushi roll and I will definitely go back for just a sushi night. The cocktails were so well balanced and one of my friends got a green IPA beer that we all tried and loved. The ambiance, service and location are 5 star! Wonderful restaurant, book a table, you will be glad you did!
Food came out irregular....had to wait
You couldn't ask for a better view, especially on the upstairs patio at Sunset. That being said, the food is also up to the task. Don't miss out on the crispy Korean cauliflower, halibut & crab lollipops, and of course, delicious bites of sushi.
We we lucky enough to get a table on the upstairs balcony, overlooking the ocean. Everything about OKU was fantastic! We had the spicy edamame and a few sushi rolls with our fabulous wine. Nothing beats a Sunday afternoon!
Big menu, lively ambience.
We enjoyed our meal out on the patio last Saturday night and ordered a variety of sushi, local uni, steamed, plain edamame, & miso soup. Our server was lovely and very professional.
The only rough spot is that there is no pacing to the dining experience. The food arrives at your table sort of all at once. If you don't want it that way, I suggest you try to communicate with the staff, especially if you order soup...
The food quality was very good. The mix cocktails were a bit lacking. The service was excellent.
Visitors in town
The service was good. The good was good. The ambiance was actually nice / hip. It was restaurant week and we ordered off that menu. Maybe the full menu would have been a better choice.
We had a wonderful time. It was Restaurant Week so very good value.
Food was fabulous as ever. Staff friendly and helpful. Fun atmosphere.
A couple of friends and I enjoyed a Tuesday evening at Oku. From the creative cocktails, to the impressive wine list, delicious steak salad and out of this world cauliflower, we all enjoyed our meal in this super cool and energetic space. I am allergic to shellfish, but there was still a variety to choose from. Oh and Order the cauliflower.
It's my third visit gets better every time. Love trying new things 😍
Overall good the service was just a little slow
Really good food, exceptional service. Order the Pork Belly Okonomiyaki and the Wagyu Gyoza for sure!
Great food with a flare! Much needed in Santa Barbara. Owner, host and server all top notch.
Flavors are amazing!! Reservation was outside on a chilly night, server offered my a blanket which made me comfortable and I was able to enjoy the night. I would definitely come again, maybe just not on a three day weekend.
Excellent sushi bar staff. Very knowledgeable.
Great location. Horrific parking
Food was delicious but the service was lacking. Parts of our order went missing or our waiter forgot to put them in. Had to ask multiple times for another glass of Prosecco. We were seated right next to a giant TV that was like a picture frame but was just a video of the street outside. It was like sitting on top of a tv screen. We were told there were no other tables to move to even though we had a reservation and there were other empty reserved tables for a later sitting we could have switched to. Really disappointed experience.
Service was severely lacking. The restaurant's been open for a while now so I thought the kinks would be worked out by now but apparently not. Food was good though.
My new favorite restaurant!!!!! Rolls are so fresh, Saigon Wings are the bomb! The Cauliflower is a must, maybe even a double order. All the sashimi melts in your mouth with flaovr and freshness. Best of all is conversations with Tina and viewing her incredible succulents on the roof top. Can't wait to come back!
