Have had dinner here twice and lunch once and the food has always been very good and the service excellent. My only slight complaint is the place can be a bit pricey because if you wish any vegetables or other sides with your entree it can add considerably to price, but not outrageous and I will continue to go back. If you like veal, it is outstanding here.
I wish they would offer a lunch menu with smaller portions. Everything was excellent.
Last night we decided to dine at Otto by Polpo to celebrate our anniversary. As a retiree from the restaurant industry I fully understand the business needs to operate a successful business.
We met a wonderful server who had great knowledge of the menu with great suggestions. With the restaurant’s name Polpo I decided it’s a must to order an appetizer with octopus. I received a mound of fresh arugula on top of tiny pieces of tasteless octopus with cherry tomato garnish. For entrees my wife ordered a pasta dish of capellini with a light marinara sauce and jumbo lump crabmeat. What arrived was a somewhat salty bowl of pasta in a light sauce with shaved garlic and about two to three ounces of jumbo crabmeat. We enjoyed our company more than the cuisine and finished the evening with a fond farewell by our server.
I paid our bill electronically which was convenient for me and our server since there was no need for the typical transaction delays. Interestingly I received a copy of our bill as an email. Upon reviewing the details of the cost of each item I found the pasta dish was charged at forty dollars and not the twenty eight dollars on our menu.
Earlier today I was driving by the restaurant and decided to stop in to bring this discrepancy to the attention of the manager.
I met the manager and explained my concerns. I explained that the menu price didn’t match what I was billed. He told me that my bill was accurate at forty dollars since the cost of crabmeat had risen so high. I explained that there was very little crabmeat. He assured me that the server told me of this extreme up charge. We were only told that this was a “very popular choice”. I protested and left very disappointed at the lack of hospitality and honesty here.
I won’t be returning.
Food was delicious and well prepared. Setting was excellent. My only complaint is that service was very slow. A server didn’t come to the table for 20 minutes after we were seated. This is not a criticism of the server, who was very nice and knew the menu well, but it seems like he had way too many tables. Other than that the experience was good
Good food, and quality service but a little slow even for the dinner rush. Wish they had advertised that they were a BYO as we were surprised upon our arrival and it was disappointing to not enjoy the meal as we anticipated it.
Delicious. Fun! Sweet and good server.
Elegant new addition to Bryn Mawr! Great service.
Food was excellent. The service was even better. Lots of choices. We will definitely be back (and hopefully next time you have the tiramisu).
The pasta special and the arugula salad special were exceptional! Unfortunately, there was too much bread on the "slightly breaded" pork chop, making it a bit too dry and tasteless. Be sure to put money in the meters. The hostess told us we didn't have to (as it was a Saturday.) When we came out we had a $25 ticket on our car.
This was my second visit. I was very disappointed. The waitress did not know the
Wonderful meal! We will definitely be back again!!
So warm in temp and food wasn’t great
Evening with friends to catch up with news. Excellent food but a little noisy
We were a group of eight on a week night. Everybody liked their food, which included the special arugula salad with prosciutto and goat cheese, octopus, and a Caesar salad. Entrees included flounder francaise, chicken marsala, chicken francaise, and others. Everybody was happy with their food and portions were generous. Decor is nice and ambiance is lively.
The only problem was the service. Servers were extremely nice and generally competent, but they are overworked and rushing around. It was hard to get various items for the table, and nobody checked back after delivering our food. Then we waited a really long time to get the check paid. They need more staff.
Overall, a welcome addition to Bryn Mawr and we will definitely go back. I hope they can hire more servers.
First time there great food.
Will go back again
Great food…unfortunately they were understaffed which put a ton of stress on the few waiters working. Nonetheless we will go back.
Best Italian restaurant we have discovered during our four years living in the area!
A warm and welcoming restaurant, we enjoyed the well prepared food and our genuinely caring server. All six of us agreed that we would return!
Food was very good.
Great food, could be good for a date night or just time out with the family. Good value and dessert was amazing, gelato is a must try.
Best Italian restaurant I have tried so far on the mainline! The service was great, the food was delicious and it’s BYOB which is always a plus!
Otto was a wonderful restaurant with delicious and authentic Italian cuisine. Our server was just the right amount of attentive and hands off while we took our time to eat. We had a very classy dining experience.
A wonderful neighborhood gem we were thrilled to discover. Every single dish we tried was authentic, fresh, and simple. We will be back soon and looking forward to it already!
The food and service were excellent. We originally had reservations for the outdoor seating area, but they were able to accommodate us inside when the weather didn’t work out. Will definitely go again!
The food was delicious although the food took way too long to appear and the waitress was not attentive. She was hard to track down and may have had too many tables.
Vacation but stayed around town
This was our first eating experience there. We had a fabulous time. Food was excellent
Service was very good, attentive without being overbearing. The Octopus appetizer was superb. I decided to order one of the night's specials, Halibut, which, while flavorful, was overcooked and, ultimately not worth the $44 price tag.
The pastas were all delicious as was the polenta with mushrooms and artichokes. Will definitely be back.
Overpriced for fair food
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. One member of our party is gluten free, so she was very happy to have a gluten gluten free pasta option. All of the food was excellent and just the right proportion. Service was great as well. We will definitely be going back on a regular basis.
We have visited Polpo both in Avalon and now in Bryn Mawr and have never been disappointed. We will be sure to return.
This was lunch and we ordered salads - Nice menu choices and they will substitute items. Salads were delicious, freshly prepared and made-to-order. Excellent service.
Food is good but service was quite poor. They mishandled two allergy requests including serving a dish with pistachio pesto after informing them of a nut allergy.
Our food was delicious, we tried a few of the daily specials and ordered from the menu. Would definitely return!
Excellent all around!
Food was excellently prepared and service was good
I don't if all the staff we dealt with were new and inexperienced but the host tried to seat me at an outdoor table when the rest of my party were already seated at a table indoor. The waiter was very inattentive. We had to wait in excess of a half hour to have our order taken. Our water glasses were empty the majority of the time. Just plain inattentive.
The food was very tasty, well prepared and the ingredients well sourced particularly the produce.
I would recommend the restaurant to friends with a caution.
