PassionFish - Bethesdaの評価
Crowded for a Sunday night.
Food was presented attractively and tasted well seasoned. Smoked China lobster. Icelandic Cod and Brussel sprouts all received positive comments.
Very noisy. Hard to have a conversation at the table. Wait staff knowledgeable, but falsely pleasant.
This is a fairly large restaurant with high ceilings and enough space between tables that the noise level easily allows for conversation. Our server was friendly and attentive but not the least bit intrusive. He brought over the sommelier when I had a question about a wine with which I was not familiar. My grilled branzino was fresh and cooked perfectly - not the least bit dry. My partner’s sushi also was delicious, although I’m not a fan of sauces on sushi rolls. The wine markup was about average as far as I could tell, and the wine list, while not extensive, was interesting, with most bottles priced from $45 to $75.
We had a leisurely dinner and never felt rushed. I definitely would return.
Very disappointed in brunch. We booked a brunch at 2pm and were not told about the bottomless cut off at 3pm. We were still in the middle of our meal and asked for another mimosa and were told that bottomless was over which we only had 2 each. She said she couldn’t help us out and would need to charge us full price for another round of drinks. I used to love this place and recommend to everyone, will not anymore for brunch. Was also asking my bridesmaids to be a part of my wedding and we were rushed out the door.
Wonderful food, ambience, service and atmosphere. Have been there twice in one week and had excellent dishes and service both times. Their butternut squash and lobster bisque is the best we've ever had - smooth, creamy, with large chunks of lobster! Fish (salmon and sea bass) cooked perfectly, flakey, moist and flavorful. The "Bomb" dessert was delicious!
The food was great and the server attentive.
While at the bar before being seated, the bartender switched one of our beers to another without telling us (apparently they were out of the one that was ordered so he poured something his own choice and served it instead).
Other than that minor incident, everything was wonderful
Sunday Brunch was awesome. Two course Brunch for $19. We had 9 different items at the table all were great. Smoked Whitefish hash and Lobster Butternut squash bisque and the Key Lime tart w/coconut sorbet were the three favorite dishes. The bottomless mimosas were kept topped up. The hot cinnamon sugar rolls were a nice touch. We will be back for dinner!
I thought the food was excellent particularly as a seafood centric restaurant. I am skeptical that the see bass and other rare fish are what they claimed to be given the general fraud in the seafood industry. I stuck to scallops and salmon. The restaurant was extremely noisy. Not a place to meet and catch up with friends. No music play just the acoustics and noise from kitchen and other diners. Even our waiter had trouble hearing us. Despite the good food and interesting menu I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend unless they were dining alone or dead set on seafood.
We celebrated our Anniversary and truly enjoyed the energetic happy hour and the romantic dinner. Our waitress was excellent and the food was superb.
We started with sushi. Next I had
grilled shrimp with roasted brussels sprouts and my husband had the mahi mahi with mashed potatoes and spinach. We were too full to order desert. Then we were surprised with a champagne toast at the end of our meal. Very nice touch. We will definitely be back!
An overall good experience. Not much to experiment with in the sushi selection but it was well prepared and a good value. Raw oyster selection and preparation was very good as well.
Wait staff was very attentive (almost too much) but very helpful with selections and knowledgeable of the menu.
We were stuck in a corner and had to deal with bar patrons constantly pushing past us but it was a good night out overall. A better table would have improved things. Will be back for the food and bar scene but may skip it for a quiet and cozy date night.
This was my first time here and I really enjoyed myself. My friend got there before me and sat outside since it was a beautiful day. We ended up staying outside and just doing happy hour and some drinks. The food was really good. I enjoyed everything that I tried. The margarita was on point as well. I would go back for dinner as the menu looks really good. I was disappointed that we just ate appetizers but I was too full for a full meal. Outside is great for a nice day and to people watch but it is not for a romantic setting and just over okay for conversations as the tables are spaced for maximum seating.
I might suggest that Open Table advise their restaurant clients NOT to call diners and expect a call back to re-confirm. This is annoying. I was not in a place where I should have been on the phone but I got the restaurant's message about an hour before our reservation and was afraid they would cancel if I didn't call back. It's silly. If I have to call anyway I may as well not have the convenience of Open Table. And Monday lunch - they were practically empty anyway so it was even more annoying. lunch was great, though.
I was entertaining a guest for dinner on Wednesday. The seafood was excellent as usual for Ten Penh and Passion Fish, but I was disappointed by (i) the Caesar's salad which was presented more as a chopped salad and the salad leaves were limp and not crisp, and it was not delicious; and (ii) the annoying waiter we had who kept pushing repeatedly an expensive bottle of French red wine which was on "special discount", down from $139 to $99 - some discount! (I did not ask for his recommendation as I am quite capable of ordering my wines and knowledgeable about wines. I did not order his wine recommendation and chose another wine. but his behavior and persistence had the unfortunate effect of embarrassing me in front of my guest. The restaurant should train its waiters not to do hard sells on wines or food.
Eat at PassionFish frequently. Food is good for Bethesda. Not overly inventive but good. Noisy but one can ask for a slightly quieter spot. Hope the restaurant will wake up to the environmental damage done by drinking straws and dispense with putting them in every water glass.
I was celebrating my 50th birthday with you of my girlfriends and I have dined with you three other times but this is my fourth time and we cannot find our waitress forever and a day and the food was very mediocre as we just shared a bunch of fun appetizers but we should’ve gotten entrées instead
We went to this restaurant during parents weekend at my son's college. It was a great dinner. The food was fabulous and just what our son needed after having eating dorm food for 7 weeks. It was quiet enough to be able to talk and catch up, but lively enough to be fun.
