It was our Silver Anniversary. We had a wonderful dinner at Pastina. Frank and the the rest of the team were very professional and accommodating. The service was outstanding and the food was impeccable.
Good food in a nice atmosphere. Interesting menu.
There were 4 of us and we all enjoyed our food and service. Noise level was low so we could all hear each other
Enjoyed the restaurant, helpful, food was great and fresh. Enjoyed the ambiance and the eclectic mix of people that were dining.
Getting seated was a little stressful as they wanted to wait until our entire party was there. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The noice level was loud, however, probably no louder than any other restaurant.
Food is reliable and the price fixed lunch menu is a real deal. It may not be the best Italian food you will ever have, but definitely not the worst, and its always consistent. I go there when I want a quiet, confidential meeting, where no one will overhear and the noise level is very low, so you can easily hear your conversation. Always friendly, good, attentive service. Very surprising that it is so quiet at lunch, relatively empty (which is perfect for my purposes). Ample 2 hour street parking, and some free, non meter parking around the south corner.
Reasonable food for reasonable price. Calamari and Pastina salad good, Cioppino was surprisingly good. Fettuccini bolognese had no taste. This place has a loyal following and justifiably so. For the price its a great value. But if you have a problem with your meal don't bother complaining you risk being estranged by an aggressive bullying owner who i believe did not care if i ever returned. I regret not giving him hug as i shall never see him again.
Because it was later than usual, just wanted a lighter meal so asked if I could just get some angel hair pasta, shrimp with marinara...done! Wife had her usual gnocchi on the menu, awesome as always! Luis is a great server and always has a great winr option for us to try. This is one of our go to places being fairly new to west LA. Highly recommend this locally owned popular restaurant!!
Frank and Nancy are the most gracious and accommodating hosts. I feel like I'm having dinner at their home. There is no doubt that this restaurant has succeeded as it has is because the owners are there. That makes all the difference in the quality of a restaurant. It is so apparent that they have had a following for years because patrons know they will get great food and be treated well. You can't ask for more than that!
Service was dour. Not a smile to be seen. Food was very good (penne with eggplant, spaghetti with cognac sauce and shrimp), and was delivered promptly. Restaurant was mostly empty, therefore very quiet, but would have been quiet anyway. The waiter was not at all fun. The fun factor is a big part of a good restaurant experience. He didn't have anything to say and was nowhere to be found when we wanted to pay the bill. Parking is available behind the restaurant, but is also very plentiful on Westwood Blvd.
It is a great place for a quiet lunch with good conversation and good food.
The food is consistently excellent! Great Italian restaurant!
I have gone to Pastina for years and Wednesday night was the poorest service I have ever received. The waiter acted like it was a chore to wait on us, he paid us no attention after we ordered, We asked if we could have the Sand Dabs which was on the Prix Fixed just alone, no other courses and he said he had to charge us for the Prix Fixed whether we ordered the courses or not. And that is what he did. No other restaurant in town would charge you for 3 courses you didn't want to eat. Also at the end of dinner, I asked if we could have 1 more glass of wine and split it, and he said the owner did not want them to do that, but he brought the bottle and gave us both a half serving. All in all it was a very unhappy experience and one that I will not repeat.
Excellent post-movie dinner place. Good food, good ambiance and quiet enough to have a real conversation with friends.
I was experiencing a bit of a stomach ache so I was careful what I ate but my friends pasta looked fabulous and I was even more jealous to find out that they loved it! Would definitely go back soon. I have been a couple of times before and I would say that one thing they can do is lower the lighting to make it more intimate and upscale.
Delicious!! Great service! Loved it
The food was very good. The service, we had a party of three and two of the appetizers were brought out but we had to wait a while for the third one and the waiter told us he had made a mistake and ordered the wrong item. The cocktails were fine but we tried two glasses of the house wine a red and a white and they were mediocre quality but at a high price. Over all the ambiance is nice, it was warm and beautifully decorated for Christmas and very comfortable.
Excellent food and service. For Aspen cost is ok. Great looking room.
Pastina can be counted in for good food and friendly, professional service. They were a bit crowded fir the holidays but still delivered a delicious meal and a wonderful lunch.
We had been here before with a larger group and decided to come back as a couple. The server was inattentive and had to be flagged down several times. The poor couple next to us had to wait 10 minutes to get their menus and hadn't even ordered food by the time ours arrived.
The food was decent the first time. This time we got the fish special. One of the servers accidentally brought the full fish to the table before he realized it hadn't been fully prepped and ran back to the kitchen. When it finally came back out fully prepped it was cold and flavorless. When we pointed this out to the waiter he offered passive acknowledgment, but it was clear he didn't much care.
The food was fresh, very tasty and amazing. Will go back for sure
The food was mediocre. i had the linguini vongole. the clams had a delicious flavor and the pasta was flavorless completely.
also the lights are VERY bright. i was looking for an ambient place for a birthday dinner and it felt the opposite. almost daylight inside.
the prices are great. you can’t beat that for a large crowd.
We went with a group of 5, I've dined there many times before. The waiter mentioned some seafood that was not on the menu, halibut, sanddabs etc. A few in our party ordered these. The halibut was over cooked and portion was kind of small. The surprise came when the bill came $45 a plate, a terrible value for what was served in our opinion. Why didn't he quote pricesbif these dishes were out of line with menu prices? We will have to reconsider whether we will visit again. Sorry Pastina you embarrassed me this time....
Always a good experience. The food was very good and the service was excellent.
Food was good, if a bit heavy. Service was rushed as if to move the table, which was disconcerting. The restaurant has a good neighborhood reputation but I am rarely a patron mainly because of the pushy service.
They were so nice to give us a tiramisu on the house - and it wasn’t even an apology. Just a nice thing to do. Maybe because we were clearly on a date? They did a great job of giving us space to think, enjoy each other, and take our time to order. That made the whole date longer and more enjoyable and it felt intentional but subtle. Great food too!
Excellent food Much too noisy , though
First time there. A great surprise. Small neighborhood Italian with a welcoming vibe and good food and service.
It's a very pleasant neighborhood Italian Trattoria, tasty food and good value on the 4 course prix fix.
Pastina has some of the most authentic Italian food I've found in L.A. In addition to your typical Italian menu, they offered a 4-course Prix fix menu with several options at a great value. Our party of 5 all got different pasta and main course options and everyone enjoyed theirs. The shrimp scampi and chicken Marsala were especially good, and a small Tiramisu for dessert really capped off a delicious meal. Although we didn't indulge, the had the full suite of Italian after dinner drinks as well. On a Monday night, it was pretty quiet, but obviously a place where locals return, as the waitstaff seemed to know someone at every table. We'll be back soon too!
Your food is too delish and John, our server is excellent.
Please put a large, noisy party at another table, not next to ours when there were no other patrons in the restaurant.
This restaurant was recommended to us, however, the Cioppino I ordered was tough and overcooked.
My two work colleagues had a veal chop that they both said they liked at $49.95 each. The service was slow, and it was difficult to get someone to order food and wine. For over $100/pp with our wine, I expect good service, and we did not get that.
I would definitely not order the Cioppino. In fact, last week I was in Boston and a colleague ordered the Cioppino at "Legal Seafood." I had a bite and it was MUCH better and fresher than what I was served at Pastina Trattoria. Legal Seafood also had crab and lobster in their's for the same price. Mine did not.
We have been here many times and have always had a great dining experience. My friend had pasta and I ordered the halibut. I should have asked the price but didn’t think to as halibut is usually an inexpensive fish. When the check came, we almost had a heart attack as they charged $45!!! Outrageous considering it was simply prepared with some carrots on the side! Not exactly a good value!!!
First time dining here, and I plan to return soon. Good Italian food in a lovely environment, attentive wait staff, and quiet enough to carry on a conversation. Perfect.
Delicious food and thoughtful service
Delicious food and wonderful service. Our entire party enjoyed themselves very much
This is becoming my favorite restaurant as the food, service and ambience make for a great combination.
Great to linger in our neighborhood haunt midday in the AC and good food..
We arrived at 7:30 on Tuesday night The restaurant was not busy until about 8:45 when it became 75% full. The food was a 3.5 out of 5. The service was disappointing. Our server was not friendly or attentive at all. We had to request service for everything. i.e even to buy more wine, or cocktails.
We ordered appetizers and he brought our salads first. Although, I would recommend this place as the food, prices were good and a great location to where are son lives.
