Authenticity is the order of the day with the best meats in town prepared front and centre for all to see on a traditional Parilla (barbecue) and Asado (pit of fire). Both are expertly tended to by Porteño’s very own Goucho, Adan Abrahanowicz (yep, that’s Elvis’ dad) who has been barbecuing in this uniquely Argentinean style since he was old enough to play with fire... and he was an early starter! Just as well considering the slow cooked pig and lamb spend 8 hours splayed out over an ironwood bark fire before they hit your table.

I am usually a big fan of Porteno. Their steak has always been exceptional.
However Friday night, the steak was just not as expected. The waiter was rude and almost didn’t have the patience for any questions.
Very disappointing night. I hope it was just a one off as they have always been my #1 steak in Sydney.

The food has been better, we had a great night overall but feel that quality has gone down a bit and prices increased. We paid around $850 for 6 people including 2 bottles of expensive Argentinian wine ($110 per bottle).

On a business trip from Perth with our husbands . We have been to the restaurant a few years ago and wanted to go again with some other friends . This restaurant did not disappoint , if not better than the last visit.
Food and service was very good , will be back again .

Focaccia bread is worth the trip! Love shared plate restaurants and Porteno with its lazy susan to make sharing even easier is great. We shared the lamb, wagyu beef and beef special along with the sides that included great cabbage salad. The wagyu beef was delicious!

There are times when the fable provides enough intrigue to allow for the excursion, but leaves the burst of colour until the rendition is actualised. My word what a brilliant, joy filled experience is Porteno. Professional service with a modern outlook, food perfectly cared for and presented as its own star. The construction of the evening was generous and seamless allowing for eye ball interaction with the real reason for attending, spending time with my sweetheart, the love of my life.

They didn't have either of the two dishes we went there for. one was discontinued..they simply ran out of potatoes on the other one. Wine was nice but at $24 a glass you'd hope so. Didn't bother with the meat as they're all so expensive.

Unlawfully, Wyno at Porteno does not display wine by the glass prizes- $26 for a glass, only informed once the bill arrives. Will never go back. Recommend you don’t either

An insanely sweet danish-like bread was served with pâté as an appetiser. The pâté was good but the bread was so inappropriate that it almost ruined the whole meal! Octopus dish was tender and well balanced. Eggplant side was nice but it was served a long time before the lamb main and it would have been nice to eat these together. Lamb main was disappointing especially as we were told it had been cooking all day. It lacked flavour and texture - it was just soft fatty meat with no charred or crispy bits. Fried potatoes were very oily and garlicky with odd dried parsley as a garnish. The Messina dulce de leche was delicious to finish. Wine list is good.

We really enjoyed our meal. The ambience, the wait staff, and the quality was great. Though for the price we paid the food didn't quite match. A plate of simple fried potatoes for $15 etc. The lamb was incredible though!

Nearly the best lamb I have ever tasted. Even the skin was Devine. Wasnt fussed about being so close to the table next to us and hearing all their conversation. But the food made up for it indeed!

Great staff , though they don’t tell you if you order too much! Really excellent food and a good wine list .We went on a Friday Night and the noise level was very high and the tables too close together all of which restricted conversation.
The food here classic meat dishes , aged steaks-lamb cooked for 8plus hours and flavorful sides are really world class. It’s expensive here but memorable.

A good place for a corporate group primarily because as a value proposition it’s very expensive.
Food is beautifully cooked and tasty. Portion sizes are small and in relation to prices, not particularly good value.
Have been for a work function and it works well with a large group and I think the group menu portions are better (of course being on the company account, not worried so much about the wallet).

All items on the menus we exceptional and worth trying then all. As there were too many good options we went with the banquet and all items selected were above our expectations. As we had a vegetarian dinner with us they were accommodating within the banquet menu. Highly recommend to all and we will be returning again.

This restaurant fell on several “Top” lists we researched prior to our trip to Sydney and it was deserving of all the accolades. Tremendously varied and unique menu, and portions were larger than we expected. Only drawback was the noise level. But that seems to be the mandatory vibe in today’s hot restaurants, so probably not a good spot for a first date or catching up with friends in extensive conversation. That said, we highly recommend it.
