We try to go preto once a month we absolutely love it there. Food is amazing and service is amazing!

We have been to preto before and usually the service is OK but not great. On this occasion it was awful.
There were no tables available despite us booking so we were given a tiny table behind a pillar, so it was hard for us to get staff attention or for anyone to give us food.
We ordered our drinks and side dishes, my drink came out wrong. I ordered a gin and tonic and was given something very sweet tasting, not a problem mistakes happen... but the staff member spent a few minutes trying to convince me it was gin before I received the correct drink. Our side dishes arrived 40 minutes later. We were told you couldn't have any of the meat until the side dishes arrived so we sat with nothing for 25 minutes until we complained and was then given some meat. The men serving the meat struggled to serve it to us due to the pillar and surrounding tables. Several times meat juice was dropped onto my jeans, despite me moving as far as I could out of the way.
We were offered so few bits of meat in 90 minutes and the few bits we were offered were all the same. We were offered no chicken and just kept being offered pork and top side beef. We were not offered any other drinks and kept having to flag staff down.
We asked 3 times for our bill and only when we got up to leave were we able to pay. At this point we received an apology but it just wasn't good enough. We left hungry and disappointed.
We were given vouchers for our next visit but I would never visit again as it was so appalling.

The staff were all really nice and attentive. They really make the difference. Thank you!

We felt like they was desperate to get rid of us. Within 15 mins of being there they was asking us if we wanted the bill and tried taking our plates.

Yes, two visits in the short space of a week! However, in my previous review I made a comment about the poor drinks service - none of that this time around. I'm really glad to see my comments were taken constructively and as a result myself and my friend had a much better experience! Will definitely be back - possibly before lockdown...

The staff were lovely. However inspite of telling the staff as soon as I arrived that I don't eat any beef I didn't get any meat for 50 minutes by which time I had filled up on side dishes

Pricey drinks

We've been tooo Preto a few times and we've always had a good time, great food and great service. Actually the service makes this place, as they always go above and beyond to make us feel at home and cater for a any requirements without any fuss. We Will be back, after the second lockdown!

Food was great but service was very slow considering was quiet empty

Love Preto and come here regularly, both before and during covid-times. My one criticism has always been that the drinks service takes a long time, and there are times when I've finished one drink and it takes a while to be served for another. When the vast majority of cuisine is salty meat, this can detract from the overall experience a little. It's not just limited to this branch of Preto either! I genuinely think employing someone whose sole job it is to roam around the restaurant clearing empties and taking drinks orders (perhaps also helping make the more difficult cocktails?) would generate massive revenue for the business as well as making the customer's experience better all round.

Great lunch with views over River Thames, good value

Meat was chewy, fatty and salty. Sides were ok I guess, chicken was edible. Al the meats were terrible though, very disappointed

TERRIBLE, in fact non existent service from the moment myself and my dining partner entered the restaurant. We were left waiting at the entrance for about 5 minutes upon entry, several members of staff walked past us, none acknowledged leading us to have to call for service, and this was the tone for the entire time at this restaurant.

After being seated, we were left for 50 minutes with no service, despite many obvious attempts to get attention including eye contact and hand signals which were ignored, before my friend got up and sought someone at the bar to place our food and drinks order. We had to ask for cutlery etc and seek any attention after our food was brought, some items including the fried banana were not received so had to be reordered.

Once we had finished our meal and were ready to leave, again, obvious attempts at getting service were ignored and my friend physically had to get up to go and find someone AGAIN.

Honestly this experience has been one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever received and there is absolutely no way I would waste my time in returning to this restaurant or recommending it.

Harsh to judge service given these difficult times but restaurant felt under staffed. But food was excellent.

Very unorganised, arrived at 7.05 for booking at 7.15 and still got seated only at 7.20 then it took almost 25 mins for a waiter to take our order even though other people who were seated after us had already ordered but at least he was attentive.
Place was busy so they should have had more staff instead of 1 girl who was hostess, table cleaner & order taker. Also, while we & other people kept waiting for service, waiters preffered cleaning tables & kept ignoring us. I've been to Preto Leatherhead which I think sadly closed recently & I would easily say to go there instead but no longer can.
Food was decent but not the same quality as at Leatherhead. The feijoada was watery with barely any beans in it. Luckily feijoa was much better. I liked how you could choose your sides as at Leatherhead they just gave you whatever without asking you & if you happened to ask them to bring feijoa they would otherwise you wouldn't even know they were serving it. Pao de queiso was nice, but the banana fritters' taste was spoiled by too much oil & breadcrumbs. In regards to the meat selection I was sadly dissaponted. The beef on the day was very medium done (I don't like blood on my plate) but I guess they were in a rush & didn't taste fresh. No matter how much seasoning & marinate you put on beef if it's not fresh it will still leave a bad taste in your mouth. Luckily the gammon was as good as ever & helped to remove the beef taste from my mouth. For desserts we had brigadeiro (delicious as ever) & a flan which was very good. Unfortunately desserts took forever & when we asked the waiter when they would come he thought we were joking it hasn't arrived yet. That's how long it took. He was sorry & luckily we were patient & desserts were yummy. Finally when asking for the bill we had to ask to amend it as they didn't include the 50% discount. Normally I'd pay and support the business in such times but it just wasn't worth ir. I won't return to Kingston & try my luck at other Pretos.

very slow service considering there were not much customer at the time. waited 25 minutea for the sides to come and waited 15 mins for the bill to pay.

My first time here. It was absolutely brilliant. I would recommend it to any meat lover.

Probably our 8th visit here and 2nd since covid-19. This was an "after rugby training" treat for our very hungry and meat-loving 13yo son. He absolutely loved it!

AMBIENCE/SERVICE - We were seated near 3 tables of friends/family celebrating a young boy's birthday. Several kids running around tables. Very noisy conversation and occasional shouting/singing. On this particular night this did not bother us at all, but if you were planning a quiet/romantic meal, you'd definitely ask to be seated in another part of the restaurant. The service was confused and very slow at the start - no plates/cutlery for a long time! Our son became very upset with all the meat the waiters were walking past our table while he was very hungry. Eventually 2-3 different staff apologised in turn, plates, cutlery, napkins and water all suddenly appeared, and from then on the service was very good/attentive.

FOOD - EXCELLENT meat! Several different cuts of beef, lamb, chicken, chicken wings/hearts, etc., all deliciously seasoned and skilfully prepared. Great taste! If we were to rate Preto on meat alone, they would get 5-plus stars!!! And the meat kept coming, even our son couldn't keep up at one stage. If you are a meat lover, this is your place!

Unfortunately, the side dishes were sub-standard. Fries were tasteless and seemed mass/cheaply produced. Side "salad" was a few slices of cucumber/tomato and rocket, with no seasoning or dressing. A real let down. Before covid-19, there was a self-service starter/salad/side bar, but obviously now this is not in service.

VALUE - Reasonable, just over £100 for 3, with a bottle of wine, soft drinks and one dessert - but this was AFTER the £30 EOTHO deduction.

SUMMARY - GOOD overall and an excellent choice for meat lovers. But PRETO - please improve the quality of your fries and side dishes!

HOT TIP - Definitely try a bottle of the Beefsteak Club Malbec Mendoza – it really does complement the steaks!

It was my first time going to this style of restaurant, and I can’t wait to go back! The food was delicious and the staff friendly, we had the voucher for £10 off and I felt bad using them as the quality and quantity of food was great. It’s perfect for someone like me that can never decide what I want from the menu, I could have a little bit (or a lot!!) of everything!

Very enjoyable meal, food was great ! Friendly staff and good service.
