Rare Restaurant

Our entire experience was amazing! We hadn't had a date night in months and this was the perfect place to go! Three days later and I'm still thinking about the meal we had! They take such good care of you and they are so creative with local, whole food. We are so lucky to have this place!

Rare is the spot to go when you're looking for a safe, comfortable environment that plays the right music has the best food and overall atmosphere. The owners put so much thought, care and love into this place and it shows!!

As always Rare continues to provide amazing service with some exceptionally delicious food to accompany it. We had the escargot and beef arancini to start followed by a sirloin and flank stake. My taste buds were incredibly happy!

First time at Rare. Food was fantastic!! Presentation was on point. Ambience didn’t match the quality of the food. Was expecting a more ‘high end’ environment considering the quality and price point. Regardless, would definitely return. Great job chefs!

Excellent dinner. Couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. Drinks are good and service is fast. Would like to have more intimate seating.

The best restaurant in town in my opinion. The chocolate mousse dessert was an incredible end to a great meal.

Very good first experience at Rare. We had high expectations given the menu, and we were pleasantly surprised. The wait staff were all attentive and and very nice. We’re new to the area and had hoped to find a restaurant that filled the “once a year we’ll treat ourselves” void through the pandemic.

The food was excellent. We started with bone marrow, a first for us both, and is now something we will eagerly anticipate finding on the menu again!

The flank steak and burger were top notch and worth the price. Cooked perfectly. The locally sourced ingredients and freshness was evident in each plate. The drink menu was also extensive with many well made cocktails.

Be sure to try one house-made dessert and a coffee while here as well. Both hit the spot and capped off a great night perfectly.

Rare is certainly worth indulging in if you have the opportunity. It may not be something you can do regularly as it is quite expensive compared to other local options, but it has certainly earned a spot at the top of our list.

The classic eggs benedict with peameal was fantastic. Enough hollandaise, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the peameal was tastey. The english muffin was toasted well. The potatoes were hot and crispy.

The special prime rib eggs benedict was good, the eggs were cooked perfectly. I'd have liked a little more hollandaise and some of the potatoes were cold. Despite the temperature of the potatoes they were still crisp and tasty. I will be going back to try the traditional Eggs Benedict

First time checking out the Rare brunch. So good! Good was delicious, coffee is strong and amazing. It was quiet and felt very safe.

We can’t wait to come back! The food was so amazing as we knew it would be, the waitress did amazing with distancing, knew all the specials and was so helpful and polite!
Music was energetic and amazing which we loved and we felt very safe in the super clean environment they have.
We can’t wait to go back soon!

Highly recommend, have always enjoyed going to rare as a steak house. Tyler’s chicken is just as good or better.
If you haven’t been here you need to go. One of the many local gems of Peterborough.

The appetizers were amazing!!! The main took an hour wait which was very odd to us. The main wasn’t as good as the appetizers but we’d go back if they had their old menu back up and running!

Great atmosphere, very quiet and food was tasty. Service was also good.

Food was decent, but I think it was quite pricey for what it was. The server was lovely though.
I liked the vinyl Beetles music that was playing. The vintage decor was really fun.

Great service, very clean. Safe distancing within the establishment. Best steak I have had in my life! Excellent variety of libations. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an excellent meal in a lovely atmosphere.

This was our first time to the Rare. From the service to the meal everything was great.
My salmon was the best I have ever had. My husband had the 12oz ribeye very tasty but he found it to be alittle on the thin side. Peach crumble delicious. Wine was wonderful. We will be back. Thankyou for making our night out very nice.

What an amazing restaurant! Beautiful venue, attentive and knowledgeable staff, excellent wine list and incredible food. Highly recommended for date night or dinner with friends.

A tasty meal, however I recommend having an appetizer with the main. Though portions were very good they were small. My 12 oz ribeye steak was thin as was my wife's 10 oz strip loin. Wine selection is good. Many price points.

Kassy and Tyler have done a great job turning a "Covid" dining experience in a parking lot into an intimate dining space with music, umbrellas and a feeling of warmth and safety. The food was great and thoughtful. Montreal Poutine offered to honour a staff who was leaving for a Montreal staj. Great wine suggestion, great selection, great service....Check it out before we have to move inside for the winter.

Excellent taste and service. Presentation of main course and dessert could have been spruced up for the price paid. Eg seasonal herbs and green or red vegetable or fruit garnish to dress up the plates. Chef is very skilled with blending of flavour and textures.

Had a very lovely evening on the parking lot patio. Everything was clean and well run and the food was stellar.

We have been enjoying dinner at Rare for years but this morning decided to see if we could try their new brunch menu. We didn’t have a reservation and weren’t sure we could get in with our two small children but the staff were so accommodating and happily pulled together a table for us. The daytime vibe in the restaurant was just great and I loved everything they were playing. The kids shared the classic breakfast which we asked for an extra plate for however, the kitchen went so far as to split it on two plates making my life so much easier and my kids feel extra special. They absolutely loved their breakfast - our fussy 2 year old ate everything on his plate and our 5 year old declared she’d like to eat breakfast here every day. I had the Benny and my husband had the Chicken and Waffles and both were delicious. The whole family had to try the chicken and tatertot waffle and insist it is a must try! It is so unique and beyond tasty.

We’ve been looking for a good breakfast spot for years and Rare’s new offering delivers! We will definitely be back to try the donut French toast but I think the chicken and waffles may be a Rare brunch staple for our family. Congrats to the Rare team on this new menu and new offering, you have hit it out of the park!
