Red Dog Saloon Southampton
Food is just okay ish, I would not order the same as I had for sure. Meat platter was big, but not tasty or fresh. Potato salad wasn't nice, fries from McDonald's are better than was in this place.
Cocktails are very nice.
The best thing about this the restaurant was the staff, I would go there again, but for drinks only.
I find red dog very expensive for the quality of food, especially the vegetarian options.
It is over crowded and loud so would suit young people/parties.
It’s not a restaurant I would choose to go to for quality food.
The food just wasn’t enjoyable, it wasn’t nice and for a 2 burgers 2 side and 2 milkshakes it came to £50 due to service charge. Really disappointed and the restaurant had a 1 way system but sat us back to back with the table in front and behind us hardly any room to pull the chair out never mind two meters or any form of distancing and the restaurant was full.
We arrived 10min early for our booking, and were told we’d have to come back in 10min, yet the group of 2 behind us without a booking were seated immediately at a table for 4 (which could have seated our group of 4).
When we came back at our booking time our table was still not ready and we were asked to wait.
When finally seated, we were told we couldn’t order any milkshakes, but maybe they be available at the end of our meal.
The food was lukewarm.
When combined with staff having to wear masks, the music was too loud - we had to ask the waitress to repeat herself multiple times.
At the end of the meal we wanted to order desert, and were told they were all out of desserts (baring in mind they only offer two options anyway).
Very disappointing - will not re-visit
We arrived for breakfast. I was the first guest in your whole restaurant and on arriving I passed a gentlemen in the doorway not wearing a mask.
I asked on entrance if I was required to wear one and the lady who greeted me said yes and then guided me to the first table on entrance just 2 meters in front of me.
There were a group of people congregated at the bar area and some of which also weren’t wearing masks. Whilst waiting for my 2 friends to arrive, I witnessed multiple leave/return from the restaurant not wearing masks.
The waitress serving me had a ‘resting face’ and no welcoming or approachable manner about her.
My friends arrived and we were excited about eating and looked over the drinks. I had said to my friends I was thinking about a milkshake to which the waitress overheard and shouted from across the room ‘you might wanna choose again Cos we have no milk’
Well I was really taken back by this statement, firstly as it was so rude and secondly I was shocked how a business could be out of such a basic commodity. Quite simply if you were out of stock you could simply goto a store and source some more as a last resort rather than to refuse so many items on the menu which include such a commodity!!
How can you serve breakfast or hot drinks or milkshake without such a thing?
The waitress was rude and sadly not really helpful, I had asked if perhaps they could send someone out to fetch some milk rather than to inconvenience all your guests and she said no. She bluntly said they were understaffed despite me seeing multiple staff members in the restaurant and people congregated by the bar area. Of whom she said weren’t staff but I believe otherwise. When I asked her why they weren’t wearing masks she blunted diverted blame and took no responsibility for the lack of COVID control measures in place.
We ordered some drinks, but our waitress continued to be so rude so we left and decided to eat elsewhere!
Absolutely loved our meal! The waitress so lovely and generally just a cool place
Extremely overpriced drinks; waitress was somewhat rude to us when we asked for our missing portion of chips; food was 'okay'; music was too loud to understand our server.
We had a burger , pulled pork and Ribs and all was over salted , only two options for pudding and one of those was out of stock.
Great food and very good service. Very pricey for what you actually get, as all the side dishes are extra. Very noisy and hard to have a conversation with the person across the table from you. Nevertheless, I would recommend it, if you are happy spending what I consider an excessive amount of money for a burger.
On arrival to our table wasn’t advised what was still on the menu so after sitting there waiting to decide what we wanted we were then told that half of the meat and the chicken selections were not available and we didn’t find our server the best of help
Well organised and visibly keeping an eye on being Covid secure. Food was good, (maybe a tad expensive for what you are getting - but tasted good!) Staff were pleasant and helpful. They did automatically put an automatic gratuity on the bill which I find a bit rude - had they not done so the tip would have been more generous.
Only asked to scan check and trace QR code no other covid measures in place no distancing or protective measures. Staff were wearing masks
Burger was ok. Chicken wings were shocking. Dry, overcooked wings with an awful coating. I’ve had better, much better!!
Friendly staff and attentive to start with. Menu was varied and food was delicious however they had run out of brisket and after our mains we were told, once we’d asked, that there were no desserts. Our second drinks order was forgotten about and it began to feel like we were stopping the staff going home - it was just gone 8pm. Unfortunately this spoiled the evening which started so well. Food tasted great and the service at the beginning of the meal was also lovely
Great atmosphere and energy, but unfortunately the food did not live up to what was expected. The burgers were AMAZING, but the rest of the meal fell well short. Additionally, the "build your own platter" is not value for money at all.
Overall the experience was very underwhelming.
Went in just to see what it was like ended up getting the carnivore platter which we shared, there was so much food we didn’t even finish it all very tasty and anyone would like it if you like your meat :D
Great burger. Had the £10 lunch deal which was great value for money. Will definitely be back.
Service and food great although a little expensive when all sides are sold separately. Cleanliness was poor, a dirty knife and lumps of food under our table, doesn't fill you with confidence in these covid times!
Waitresses are beautiful
Food came out cold, was sent back due to this, when re served was still cold. Manager informed us this is because the coleslaw on the meat makes it cold apparently?! Very disappointed due to being advised the food here was good! I could understand if the restaurant was busy but there was 6 other people apart from my husband and myself! Will not be making a return visit!
Lunch date with my husband. Food was outstanding, best burgers we’ve had (& husband is an expert!) Service was friendly, efficient & prompt. Highly recommended.
Service excellent.meal very good. Music too loud so found it hard to talk without shouting......
Service very good.
Quite due to COVID 19
Very good restaurant, Good service, Good food and friendly staff
Lovely food and serve all the pictures of the food and instagram did it justice.Amazing Burgers
Gone down hill....
I have been to Southampton Red Dog on several occasions and this time will likely be the last. They have changed the menu to a pay per 100g style DIY menu and removed several sides. I wouldnt say it offers good value anymore as previously the portions were on the generous side and they came as a meal. Now they seem to have gone the other way with small portions and having to buy all sides seperately.
The quality has also gone down, I had brisket and chicken. Whereas the brisket was previously succulent and pull apart, it now felt chewy and almost like a roast beef. The chicken smelled like it had been fried in old oil and was greasy. The one accompanientment that was included is the chicken was serviced ontop of sliced bread. I get this is trying to replicated Southern cooking for the states, the whilt bread which looked liked medium sliced hovis, is not really what you expect from a restaurant and it was stale on the edges to the point you couldn't actually cut it with a knife.
Soz Red Dog.
Overpriced, small portions, waiter made us pay the “discretionary” service charge.
We got there pretty early, was very quiet when we arrived. Had a nice table reserved near the windows at the front. Food was amazing! I thought drinks were a little on the pricey side but overall happy to pay the prices and go again!
We used to be big fans of Red Dog Saloon, however recent menu changes have led to a drastic in quality. For example a main meal sfc salad costing over £10 has changed from a large bowl of delicious salad to a small side plate of a couple of ranch soaked lettuce leaves. Along with this we had issues regarding the spicing levels of fried chicked and a general downgrade in food quality and presentation. Service however was excellent, the lady serving us was exteremly helpful and listened to our issues and spoke to the manager on our behalf. I believe this fell on deaf ears as our issues were left unresolved.
Overall not greatly impressed. On arrival we were told we have 1 hour. Had to ask for water three times before it was brought to the table. The food came within 10 mins of being ordered (not freshly cooked).
More like a cafe. Don’t get dressed up for an evening out as it will make the staff look scruffy
Not the same as before lockdown but food and service still very good
Great lunch today and the waitress Isabelle was fantastic!
Paid £11.50 for 3 thin small slices of Brisket which were nice, the spicy sausage isn’t spicy at all but to be fair tasted nice. The ribs were more like pork belly. Extremely fatty and very sickly and hardly any smoked flavour. £17.50 really poor value for money. Chips had half a t spoon of caramelised onion on them and a not very nice mayonnaise sauce which were £6.50. My wife had a small glass of wine costing £7.50 and I had a pint of beer sold in Wetherspoons for £1.99 costing £5.50 which came with a fly in it. Overall the food was very expensive for ok to poor standards. The drinks are very expensive even for drinking out. They add a tip to the bill without telling you which is cheeky. £70 for a bit of meat and chips. Had better meals in Weatherspoons at a 1/3 of the cost.
Really good quality food and the atmosphere was good. Very reasonably priced food (had the lunch time burger meal deal) and the staff were amazing!
They have really stepped up their game! We came her about a year ago and came away disappointed. This time we were blown away with the good service and gorgeous food. We had the Philly cheese burger with fries it was absolutely delicious!!
This was my second time here and I was underwhelmed. I’m not sure if it is due to the restrictions due to pandemic but I found the food lacking.
The coleslaw was just too heavy on the mayonnaise. The philly chips were overpriced and cold when serviced and the meat platter was over salted. This was not worth the money. However the burger deal my son had was good value. I feel the waitress did try to convince us all to have the burger meal but we wanted the meat platter.
The service was good all lovely wait staff!!
Great brisket and ribs. I’ve lived in Texas so recognise real bbq. Service was ok but starter never arrived, so cancelled that, the pit beans were not available, there was no bbq sauce offering (a must have in Texas) and the potato salad had crushed black pepper which is not authentic. However, the smoked meats were fantastic.
Went here Saturday evening with a few friends and it was packed! I mean every table was in use and as most of them were back to back booths, there was zero social distancing going on. Not cool Red Dog.
When the waiter introduced himself, he said he was “stressed, tired and anxious”. Now, I have a dry sense of humour but wow, what a way to break the ice, good one mate. Cue awkward laughter from the table.
Anyway, food arrived which was OK, albeit a bit overpriced and being served in chipped bowls (that was the same for the glasses our drinks were served in too by the way). I know I sound like a right Karen when I write this, but pretty sure that’s against Food Safety regulations . . .
Asked at 9.30 if we wanted another drink before last orders - “go on then”.
20 minutes later, they arrived along with being told they were closing and we needed to leave - best drink up then girls!
Asked for the bill.
5 minutes later, bill arrived with the same message that we needed to leave. Bro, we get it but we need to pay for the mediocre food and cracking service yeh?
They tried to charge us for stuff we didn’t order so had to wait for a new bill.
5 minutes later, new bill arrived with guess what? Another reminder to leave!
Well, by this point we’d had enough so we refused. They called the police and we got arrested!
Only joking, we left very respectfully by 10pm.
Overall, I won’t be coming back, which is a shame because I’ve been here before and it was great. Soz.
Fruit flies everywhere, no hand sanitiser, no track and trace. Tables and seats weren’t sanitised between customers - when the manager was questioned about a table we saw not being sanitised between seatings, he simply said “yes it was” and walked off.
Food was brilliant, but the menus weren’t being even wiped down after customers had used them, staff were walking around pulling their masks down to talk and all but one bar staff had their masks below their noses.
Not to be “a Karen” but if I was a secret shopper or EHO, this restaurant would be shut down for not following basic hygiene procedures, let alone the guidelines for hospitality during the pandemic. Made us feel very uncomfortable as someone who works in healthcare so we simply left.
