River: A Waterfront Restaurant & Bar
This was the first time I’ve dined here and it was an amazing experience. The food was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The scenery was beautiful. The staff was very friendly. This is definitely on my list of places to come back to.
This is the place to dine in Hartford County. Beautiful view of the Connecticut River, great food, and excellent service! Overall a great dining experience that everyone should experience.
Excellent service and excellent food. Sarah S. is a great server. We had the Arctic Char and the Lobster roll. Will return for more!
Great setting and lunch was delicious.
Very nice business lunch on a cool Friday afternoon. While the weather was in the 60's, we were expecting sunshine out on the deck. Didn't happen yet we had a nice, safe and comfortable lunch overlooking the river of course, and Tequila Rios restaurant below.
Restaurant team made you feel safe even when you were outside dining.
We were excited to try the new menu! Had the bacon appetizer and it wasnt too heavy.
I had the chicken sandwich (with bacon again, duh!) and it was very good. My lunch partner had the salmon sandwich and it was very good as well.
While it wasnt cold, we noticed the restaurant had a couple of heaters going for the older folks who wanted to be outside but were obviously a bit chilly.
All in all, a great place to eat for lunch (and dinner from my prior visits). Moderately priced with appetizer and no alcoholic drinks.
The food, from start to finish, was disappointing and service was lackluster. Disappointed that it didn’t live up to the great things we had heard before COVID-19.
I was there celebrating my mother’s birthday, she is very happy with the place and the food and the waiters were very nice Kiko and Vivían, thank very much for the service.
The martini was good , the lobster roll was delicious
For the price of entree's I would expect sides and not have it be ala carte. That is disappointing. Having a plate come out with just steak on it isn't appealing visually. Also, your plates are too large for your table size. It didn't feel particularly special there. Just ok. Food was ok, not amazing.
Totally worth it, will definitely visit again
Food was ok, nothing spectacular or something we must go back/have to have again. The view was the best part but for the cost of the food, we expected better. Would go back but just for lunch to enjoy the view, not a must go spot for a special occasion or special meal - you can get about the same quality at almost any mid tier casual dining restaurant.
Four of us had a very nice and relaxing dinner on the deck at The River Restaurant on Saturday night. The food was delicious and the service was on point. It is a very scenic restaurant and the lights illuminating the trees at dusk added to the great atmosphere.
River is consistently a great experience. Beautiful location, great staff, good food.
Lackluster food, masked to be fine dining. This was my 3rd visit and Has gone significantly down hill over the past year. From stale bread, to soup that was overly salty and tasted like it had been sitting all day. Steaks are good but are served al carte with very limited side option.... I mean what steak house doesn’t have mashed potatoes?! So much potential in a unique setting. Obvious they are cutting corners with service, quality and freshness. I will not be returning.
Overall very good. Could do without the 1 1/2 hour limit for dining. First time I've encountered this restriction. Bottle of wine, appetizer, soup, entrée, good conversation..... 90 minutes? Good luck with that one.
First time coming for lunch and I prefer dinner not happy especially seeing that is was for my friends 50th birthday
We first had lunch at The River before Covid and thought everything was great: view, service, food ... We had dinner there on 10/15/2020 and again everything was great. We especially liked the way they separated the tables and took a conservative view of CT and CDC guidelines. The food offerings are inspired ... we could see ourselves ordering everything on the menu. The owner stopped by to ask our experience - a nice touch.
My husband and I chose this restaurant for our early anniversary celebration/last date night before we have a baby. This restaurant did not disappoint in any way! The food was served at a great pace, and absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the staff is accommodating and friendly. We will definitely keep this place on our list of date night options for the future!
Food was average and the service was also average.
We sat outside which was a bit too cold. The view was extremely nice. We even got to watch some deer play in the water. The seafood linguini was good. The seafood was fresh and tasty. The linguini and sauce was disappointing. The best part of our evening was our waiter. He was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating about our wine selection. All in all a very enjoyable evening.
This place is hit or miss. Our waiter was a bit lost. I ordered a martini and it came in a champagne glass. Literally a 4 sip drink that cost $10. Not worth it. Not to mention they didn’t know how to make a few martinis. Food was ok but cold. Was too hungry from a 8 hour shift to send it back. Only reason we stayed was for the river scenery. They need more training.
The only thing I would change is the choice of music. Had a very PLR vibe...
Excellent food and atmosphere. Staff is friendly and attentive. Good service. Will definitely come back here.
The place to dine in Hartford county if outside is your choice. Beautiful view, excellent food, great drink choices, it does not get any better than The River.
We made reservations online fir Saturday afternoon. We arrived and were seated immediately. Drinks were ordered and arrived quickly, although my Bloody Mary was a little weak. Food arrived and I had to ask the server to remove the appetizers as she was going to leave the extra dishes, leaving no room on a small table. I had ordered my steak medium and it arrived charred and well done. It was about 10 minutes before he came back and I asked for the steak to redone. Second time was a charm. The raspberry mousse for dessert was outstanding. All in all, service could stand an improvement but we’ll definitely be going back. Heartily recommended.
The staff was nice and professional. Our server checked on us and fulfilled every request.
Food was very tasty. Sitting on the river can't be beat
Had lunch at this restaurant. The service was excellent. Our waiter Thomas was attentive without being intrusive. The outdoor seating by the Connecticut river makes it very special. Each of our guests were pleased with their meals. Will definitely go there again.
Beautiful location over looking the river. Good luncheon selection.
Our meals (Asiago salmon and roast chocken) were terrible. My salmon was overcooked and looked as though it had been sitting out and was reheated. It was also only about 5oz of salmon (for $26)! His chicken was fine as far as chicken goes, but it was on top of soggy sourdough bread and there wasn’t much else to it. NOT worth the money. We were so disappointed.
The steak skewer appetizer was delicious, so it was really surprising that our meals were so drastically different.
Positives: The view was spectacular! Our waiter was very attentive and energetic. Our drinks were delicious. Negatives: The food could use a bit of oomph. We made reservations for a romantic, outdoor setting and we were seated by a family with three children, the atmosphere changed up a bit because of that.
It was very nice food was amazing will definitely be there again.
Great food. Really cool atmosphere. Only thing, being unfamiliar with the area (don’t laugh) I got a little turned around trying to figure out where to park in the parking lot. We saw the River signs but couldn’t figure out if it was inside the main building or separate..Maybe just better signs (arrows) for those who are a little directionally challenged! The building was clean, hand sanitizer everywhere, friendly staff, and I never came close to anyone (for those who are extra cautious) while inside the restaurant. With that said, the bathroom appears to be shared with other business in the building (was still very clean) but was out of soap. Good thing they had a million hand sanitizer dispensers! I would def. go back!
Great view of the river, food was good and presentation was nice and our service was very efficient and pleasant. Would definitely return.
Food was excellent. Service was timely and responsive. Lovely setting with view of the CT River outside and everyone wore masks and social distancing was observed. Wonderful place for a relaxing lunch!
Great experience. Good food. Excellent service. Reservation held our table and we were seated as soon as we arrived. Did not feel stressed to rush our time.
Very nice location on the Connecticut River. Outdoor tables are covered. Good kids food for little ones.
The hostess station to check in was too crowded. During this covid period, there should be a better way to check in and be notified that the table is ready. Some people waiting in the lobby did not have masks and we’re not practicing social distancing.
I informed my server that I could not have garlic and asked if the shrimp cocktail would be ok for me. She said yes and when it came out I could smell the garlic on it. Turns out the shrimp was marinated in a garlic pesto. The waitress was very apologetic and told me the shrimp was pre-marinated and I could not have plain shrimp.
The menu doesn’t have many options, especially with the sides. The only hot vegetable that was available was a tomato and onion medley and a creamed spinach. A baked potato would be a welcome addition. I had the filet and it was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Desserts aren’t listed on the menu, and verbally we were told there was cheesecake and brownies available.
The last thing that’s a pet peeve of mine is that there was no salt and pepper on the table. I’m someone who always adds salt!
Service was extremely slow. I was with a party of 5 and 4 meals came out at one time but the 5th was at least 10 minutes behind. The whole night was super slow even though the waitress was so kind, it was extremely disappointing for a place that is fairly expensive.
Waitress was awesome, floor manager was awesome, drinks amazing. Food ehhhh. we ordered a cheese burger and a salad with grilled salmon. Salad came out twice with no salmon, came out a third time with an Asiago crust, came out a forth time raw, finally the fifth time came out correct. Burger came out first time rock hard and ice cold with no cheese. Second time came out correct. Waitresses and the floor manager that night were awesome, couldn’t be nicer and more understanding. I will chalk this up as just a rough night in the kitchen maybe the easiest dishes can be the toughest sometimes. Although the food was disappointing will definitely be back. Drinks and atmosphere are worth it
