    Very fast moving experience. We have dined at the one in Scottsdale several times. This has a different vibe, more rushed. Good food, good service. Didn’t seem as exclusive as it used to seem.

    The staff were amazing and the restaurant was beautiful. All the grilled courses were great but the sushi was lacking in comparison. It was still good just didn’t stand to the main dishes like the sea bass and the wagyu sirloin. The escolar tataki was probably the best thing we had all night.

    Trust the chef. Best item was the ube custard. Sure the apps and entrees are what you come for, but that dessert is the best food ever to touch my tongue.

    Been to Roka Akor many times - in Old Orchard, Oak Brook and here in Chicago. We always order the Omakase. This time, the Omakase experience went downhill and disappointing. Shrinkflation is very evident. We were a group of 4. For the sushi served on top of ice, it’s like 1 piece a person unlike last time we had at least 2. The steak served has also shrunk. The food became generic and left no surprises at all. The 2nd bone marrow we got has not enough “marrow” on it, just the bone; it’s not deep enough. They showered a lot of saffron, though an expensive ingredient, it’s too much to put in almost every dish, on the mussels, steak….Will I come back after patronizing the omakase experience for many years? No. In the Chicago branch, they also added 3% processing fee. So when we asked about it, our server said they added it to compensate for the impact of pandemic on their business and offered to remove it. It sounds like they charged it automatically, wishing the customer won’t see it. We were at the Oakbrook and Old Orchard locations during and after the pandemic and have never seen this additional charge. If we spent the $420 ordering ala carte, it would have been cheaper, I think.
