Romano's Macaroni Grill - Retama
The food & service was great. I had the Mama's trio & it was great. The Lobster Bisque was outstanding.
I love that it is all you can eat for only 2.50. My husband had the Sausage rigatoni & he loved it. We took half home. our server was very good & was attentive.
It's been a while since I've been there. It was very empty for a Friday evening, which should have been a sign. The restaurant itself was freezing (likely because they had the AC set for a full house). There were more servers than people and they were clearly bored, yet our server failed to check up on us (one of her two tables) often. Food overall was meh at best. Tomato basil soup had the consistency of spaghetti sauce. The chicken dish we ordered had very little chicken or mushrooms. I won't return, which is clearly the decision many others have made as well.
We were served great food as always. Our group had varied tastes but everyone found something to enjoy. The waitstaff needs to step up their game and get more organized.
Now I remember why this restaurant fell out of my rotation. Overpriced average food.
I have been to Macaroni Grill before however not this location. We went for their special mother's Day brunch and had a reservation. It didn't seem like they were really ready to serve anyone as things were still being arranged and bathrooms still being cleaned, etc. Our server was extremely unfamiliar with the menu and service was lacking. We ended up being charged an adult portion for my three year olds meal (which we ordered the kids portion of - literally off the limited menu of about four items) which was sort of the feather in the cap for an already disappointing experience. Everything was just very sub par. Aside from not being hot, the food was good but I would not return just for that. Bathroom floors were still drying when we arrived and my daughter slipped and fell twice. There are too many great places to eat in San Antonio where they have great food and great service to spend money at a place lacking in even good service. The one thing I will say is that the manager did visit our table twice and we didn't really vocalize our disappointment. I sort of felt there was nothing that could really make it better - we just wanted to pay and get on with our day.
