I have never been more disappointed with a meal. My husband and I took our daughters for dinner…had to so for water…drinks took forever and it took over an hour to get our meal when we order. When we received our meal it was cold and tasted like it had been soaked in salt. I have been here before and sing it’s praises and was honestly ready to walk out after the first hour. Poor service, loud sorority function going on on the next room, only one potty useable in the bathroom and NO toilet paper in addition to the horrible dinner. We are not a picky family…I have NEVER left a poor review ever but this was a complete waste of over $300. Ridiculous!
The venue beautiful. Had to modify reservation. Opentable was life saver because no answer phone at restaurants and I was able to change via app
Sunday Brunch. My omelet, grits, and Bloody Mary were fab! Cheerful service. Glad we made reservations!
Roots & Revelry was the perfect venue for our son's rehearsal dinner! The bride and groom had eaten there while dating and loved the food and atmosphere. Mia and Chef Robert offered a very inviting buy-out package that included food, beverages, valet parking, security and wonderful service from the time we visited and considered this venue until the last load was put in our car after the event. Mia printed special menus customized for the bride and groom's menu choices and specialty cocktails, and Chef catered to dietary restrictions without any hesitation. The decor of the restaurant did not require much dressing up, but our florist enjoyed using greenery and flowers to complement the marble tables, mural, paintings, and mirrors. We brought in a delicious groom's cake to serve for dessert. An outside balcony terrace provided a wonderful setting for mingling over pre-dinner pass arounds and beverages. The team of servers and bartenders were so helpful, efficient and courteous throughout set-up, serving food and drinks and clean up. Impeccable food quality was a highlight, especially feeding 80 people in a timely manner. Everyone raved about the delicious hors d'oeuvres, salad and entrees and how it was a treat to choose from filet, salmon, chicken or pasta. The atmosphere set the scene for a night of feasting, fellowship and toasting the bride and groom...exactly what I had prayed for! It was a celebration I will always treasure! Big thanks to Mia, Chef Robert (and sous chef Robert!) and team! We plan to return for brunch and dinners in the future and tell all of our friends to do the same! Keep up the good work, R & R!
Grwat food and my father(his 83rd birthday) loved the whole experience
This place was great! Took my mother to get brunch here and spent 2 hours enjoying the establishment. Great spot and great food.
Loved the decor 😍 The food itself was just ok. Overpriced. One of my children ordered a salad and an insect was found. They quickly replaced the salad and we paid full price which was surprisingly. Wouldn't go again though the staff was topnotch
Everything about this restaurant is very good except the building. I probably will not go back because the building feels unkempt and unsafe. Too bad because the food is very good.
We went to this highly recommended place for Brunch and were sadly dissatisfied from the time we were seated until the end of the meal. We waited 15 at our table before we were approached by a server. We ordered coffee and cocktails and an appetizer. The drinks were served after the appetizer and all of us got ours at different times. The Pecan coffee was the only redeeming thing about the morning! We ordered our main meals … chicken and waffles and the simple two egg breakfast. My daughter and I ordered our eggs scrambled. We both thought they had a peculiar taste (like seafood) and finally flagged down someone to ask. That person went to the kitchen and about 20 mins later- she brought new eggs. I said “did they say anything about the flavor?” she replied, “well they make a crab omelet and apparently used the same pan to scramble the eggs.” My daughter has a severe dairy allergy so we are very cognizant of allergies. This was completely unacceptable! Seafood is a serious allergen! What if we had a seafood allergy? For a kitchen to do that is downright dangerous. Other than that … the biscuits were dry and hard and were not served with any accompanying condiments (jam, honey, or even butter), we were never offered more coffee, and the Bloody Mary’s were served in plastic cups. I would not recommend this at all! We LOVE Ruby Sunshine and wish we had gone there again!
Great venue in a historic building. Great service and the food was fantastic. Weather did not permit but would have loved the outdoor terrace seating.
The menu was promising but the food only adequate. My braised lamb shank was quite dry. We were the only people in the restaurant so the service should have been much more attentive. Our server was nice, but there’s no excuse for forgetting drinks and hiding out in the back room while we sat around and waited for someone to clear our plates. The restaurant was quite loud because of the wedding reception going on in the ballroom next door. The hall to the restroom was nearly blocked by a table that looked like it was being used for storage. Overall impression was that the restaurant was trying to be upscale in a dumpy old hotel.
Food was great and they accommodated our dietary requests. Staff was awesome.
Good atmosphere. Good drinks and service. Food was good. Have outdoor seating. Not crowded.
Great food and service
Brunch was absolutely amazing! Ask for Jason to be your server - he is truly the best! We all had a hard time deciding what we were going to order because everything looked so yummy!
The wait was a little long but the food was definitely worth the wait ..& our waitress was awesome
It was overpriced and the service was awful. The waitress didn’t provide us with clean silverware in between courses and I had to ask for more water after my glass set empty for more than 30 minutes. For the price of this restaurant I would not have expected to do these things. Also, our table was tiled and the grout in between the large tiles was very gross looking.
Great experience and the chef was very nice to talk with.
LOVE everything about this place!
Brunch with friends from out of town
Host was good, and the food was amazing. But serving tap water in a glass bottle with no filter was nasty. SMH that and the numerous of flies around made it somewhat discomfort. Maybe should look into that issue ASAP. Other than that it was amazing.
Food was hit or miss. Some stuff was way too salty. Ambiance on the terrace was awesome. Server was fairly good though food other than at the beginning was slow to come out.
Interesting space in an twenties era hotel renovated into condos. Much of the original interior architecture is in place with a modern mural on the end wall of the dining room that was a conversation starter.
Very good food and service, what one would expect for a high end restaurant. Menu items are unique takes on traditional southern fare. What we had was delicious, though I felt like my fish (Maui Maui) was a bit overcooked. Service was great, but it was a Wednesday evening, so not very crowded. We had the Blackberry cobbler with in house made Jack Daniels Ice cream topping, was the best restaurant cobbler I have ever had!
We will go again, but not too often as it was pricey, thought I think the value was about right. Best for special occasions.
Another great meal at this excellent restaurant. The food so innovative. We love it.
Yes, energetic vibe, if a bit noisy. Good value given it was Restaurant Week. Was disappointed in the crawfish cakes. Crawfish was ground up too much and the dish and its arugula on the side were way to salty. But it was tasty. The cheesecake crepes were great. The food was a bit slow coming out and our dishes did not arrive at the same time, so they comped us a drink to compensate. Overall we had a great time.
Was probably 35 minutes until we even got saw our waiter. Wagyu carpaccio was just no good. Loved the fried green tomatoes. Scallops were good but a spoonful of grits with It was It. Didn’t like lavender in my dessert. So meh!
Jason provided great service, ambiance was way above average. Building itself left a lot to be desired but drinks and food choices made up for that and then some
This was my first time at Roots and Revelry, and it was outstanding. The food and service were excellent. Birmingham Restaurant Week introduced me to Roots and Revelry and I'll definitely be back!
We went for Birmingham restaurant week, it was wonderful!
Food was EXTREMELY under seasoned and there were issues getting the food to the table. I got the filet and along with needing heaps of salt there were grisly areas that I had to spit out. I let everyone at my table try the steak and they all agreed it was bad. A little salt could really help these cooks… We were celebrating my graduation and I couldn’t even finish my dinner because it was just not good.
The chef/owner came over and essentially blamed all the issues on the server. That’s such a bad look. Threw her right under the bus when her service was one if the only things slightly redeemable about the experience.
The bathroom was also a wreck. Half the sinks didnt work, the stalls were a MESS and no soap. Luckily i had my own hand sanitizer but that is very concerning considering the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic.
Horrible experience but the server was great! Its certainly not her fault the food was awful and the poor thing being blamed for all the kitchens issues by the owner?? Thats a bad look and talk about unprofessional. I will NEVER be back here and will warn all my bham friends about this disaster of a restaurant.
The scallops plate was one of the best plates I've had.. Outstanding!!
Went to celebrate a birthday. Very crowded as servers kept running into each other and VERY noisy. Drinks took a long time to come to the table and the mixed drinks were sub-par. They were out of several things, even at the beginning of the evening. Meals did not come to the table all at once or even close together. Nothing was very hot and seemed to be held way too long. Menu descriptions are better than the dishes themselves.
Beyond spectacular. Food, ambience and service were beyond expectations. It did take a bit longer to get our food than I would have liked but the quality was well worth the wait. I can’t wait for the next opportunity to visit!
Service was awful! We waited for an extremely long time after we ordered drinks. In fact there were tables around us that came in after us that had finished their entire meal before we even placed our food orders. My husband ordered a cappuccino that seemed to be the issue (yes, really) and when it arrived it wasn't a cappuccino at all. We sat with dirty dishes in front of us through several server visits after we ordered the banana pecan beignets for an appetizer. We had even gone so far as to stack them to see if they would be taken then. Only when the table was too cramped to put our mains on the table by the food runner were the dishes taken away.
One of our party ordered an omelet for her main and upgraded the eggs to the farm fresh version. When the omelet arrived it was not cooked through and later she became ill.
It's a shame as we had eaten previously here and it was a completely different experience. Which is why we took our family from out of town to this restaurant. Needless to say, they were not impressed.
Double date with friends… it was definitely noisy and very crowded… guests and servers could not get to tables without running into others and their chairs and tables. Food was good but not amazing. Service took forever… way too long. It was frustrating as water was left empty and timing of things was very skewed. Not sure if we would return.
They seemed under staffed, tables were rather cramped. Food was ok. The menu description was better than the end result._
The service was extremely slow. Our food was not hot and, other than the beignets, was not good. The beignets were good but tasted more like banana nut bread. Our server was friendly but not very attentive. We will not return.
it took 20 minutes for us to even get water. they were clearly understaffed. even after ordering our drinks it took another 20 minutes to get those and even then our old fashioned had a fly in it. the food was good but not worth the wait, poor service, or cost.
