Rose + Rye
Convenient to Arts Center
Service is slow
Need to change menu up
Very busy evening.....the kitchen was overwhelmed. Took well over an hour to get our main course. I do love their tuna tartar! Otherwise the experience was a disaster. Observed others around us having the same experience. Some people had to leave before eating to get to the theater.
We arrived at 5:40 as we had a show at the Fox at 7:30 and told our server. our wine, salad and appetizer came quickly but after 50 minutes our entrees were still not served. Sean our server was great and felt so bad, saying the kitchen was having issues. We left without our meal. The manager apologized but made to effort to comp anything or give us a voucher. It's not really expected but it would have been a nice gesture. I will not go back.
I have previously been to Rose however, one of our guests ordered the burger which came out as hard as a hockey puck - it could not even be cut. Because our waiter was not checking on the quality of the meal as it was served we waited for quite some time, then flagged down another waiter who was kind enough to take the plate away and ask if it could be replaced. By that time the rest of the table's food was getting cold, so our guest ordered a wedge salad to get something quick. We were approached by the kitchen manager asking how the burger was to have been cooked; while our guest ordered rare to medium rare, the waiter had written well to medium well. The most unfortunate part is that there was no apology, no concern; just a bill at the end. We do want to commend the valet staff and hostess who were very friendly and enthusiastic; they are great assets to Rose & Rye.
A Gem in the neighborhood. Wonderful venue. Interesting - - albeit limited - - menu. But as a neighbor, thankful it's here.
We love this place before an ASO performance or a play at the Alliance. Never a bad experience!
I had been anticipating enjoying another great Atlanta restaurant however The inside dining was disappointing. Atmosphere was rather cold. Unfortunately the beet salad tasted like red canned beets and missed the fresh yellow and red advertised on the menu. There are no bread options offered.
The waiter never came back to check on our food. Mine had too much salt for my taste and was disappointing because I had asked specifically about the pork chop being salty.
Also, I'm not a fan of having a waiter taking an order by standing closely between two tables so his rear end is ready to knock over my wine glass.
At least we weren't as unfortunate as the table next to us who had one entree incorrect and didn't receive the correct one until the other two diners have finished eating and the final dinner was served same time they received the bill.
Great Service, Ok food. Awesome building
Great venue in old building. Had dinner in dining room and drinks at bar. Need to go back and sit outside when weather is nice!
Food and drinks are very good and convenient to Woodruff. Service was very slow so build in plenty of time!
Good food. Convenient when attending events at the Woodruf Arts Center. Service good but not outstanding. We asked for. bread and butter service with our cocktails. and were told there was n o bread at all in the restaurant. Really? Some of us older diners still like bread and miss the days when it was automatic.
A mere shell of its former self. Started out well, but went straight downhill after first year. Couldn't get anything right Saturday night and I completely understand why it's gone from completely full to virtually empty. Not going back. Pay attention: don't waste your time!
The chef from 1Kept has made huge improvements to the menu in both quality and value. Good food, good service makes this an ideal pre- or post- symphony dining venue.
Despite the restaurant being over half empty our table for two was immediately next to another table of two. And when I say immediately next to another table, I mean less than 2 inches separated our table from theirs. I have been to plenty of restaurants that pack tables in tight but this was a whole new level. It was awkward for both us and the other couple. When the waiter came with the drink menu and it was in a three hole punched plastic sleeve we decided to get up and go elsewhere. This restaurant has gone down hill and we won't be back.
I am truly sorry for your experience. Due to your review I am immediately removing 2 of the tables from our main dining space. I will also say the wine list is in transition and will be presented differently shortly. Again, I will address these issues immediately. Thank you for letting me know.
I was wondering why no one was there through most of our meal, then I found out why. This place will be out of business by next year. You can really tell the quality of service and attention to detail has died. I went for a birthday party and it was a large group (12) we had a reservation. We got sat 40 minutes after our reservation, took another 30 minutes for them to bring out 4 bottles of wine (which we poured ourself), then another 30 minutes from the time the first person got their meal to the last (meals came out by the pair every 5 minutes roughly. Food tasted good at least. When it came time for the bill the manager told us it was our fault for not saying separate checks at the beginning of the meal and proceeded to refuse to do this. He was extremely rude and drunk stumbling around with his glass of wine. We asked the check be split 6 ways (handed the guy 6 cards), and they split it 8 ways and asked for another card to cover the remaining unpaid balance. This was by far the worst dining experience of my life. I recommend people stay away and they fire that manager.
I am truly sorry for your experience. This was my fault & responsibility. But some has to be corrected. You did not have a reservation for 12,to be flexible I accepted a change to 10, you arrived with 12. I did recommend payment issues be mentioned earlier to facilitate better service for the customer. No disrespect was intended.I did not refuse, I went to get your server.Lastly I do not drink during service we were closed & you were last to leave. Call 404 500 5980 to get owner. Again truly sorry.
The restaurant was accommodating to change the table from 7 to 10 people. The hostess did not give us any menu and we had to ask twice. The waiter was not at all friendly. My friend was trying to order food and he refused to take entree order before appetizer and drink. Later, she tried to order entree and the waiter told us it would take too long (we had a concert to go to). 3 of my friends order fried calamari, one of them was just cold. Anyway, the ambiance was nice but service needs a big step up.
Pre-theater dinner for a group of 8 on a Saturday evening. Salads weren’t served for 45+ minutes, then dinner came 5 minutes later. The manager apologized and indicated that he’d make some accommodation, but there was nothing credited on our bill and we were fully charged for gratuity. Food was good, but lots of work to get their timing together if they hope to have repeat customers.
My wife and I went on a Saturday to celebrate and anniversary. We were a little early and were seated immediately. Unfortunately, we were seated in a section of close seating (6-12 inches between tables) already occupied by several very loud groups. They refused to moves us to a section with more private tables (saying it was closed when clearly it was being used). I suspect they did not have the staff to cover it.
Service was exceptionally slow and the waiter a bit surly.
The food was only OK. We had the scallops and the sea bass. Both dishes were under seasoned.
It’s unlikely that we would return
This was truly one of the best dinners I have had in Atlanta. I highly recommend this fabulous restaurant! The stuffed mushrooms are delicious. The scallops and salmon were both wonderful. And the pecan pie was to die for! Great spot for a special occasion or date night!
We arrived at 6:45 for a 7:00 pm reservation and were seated right away. Restaurant was less than half full and over the next hour and half, it was less than that. I ordered duck confit. When I have had this dish in the past or made it myself, the duck is very moist, falling off the bone. At Rose and Rye, I couldn't cut my duck with a knife. It was totally dried out. It was served with a heap of sauteed onions in a sauce, which probably would have been good if it was served immediately after preparation. However, it seemed like it and the duck had been prepared days ago and reheated.
My husband ordered what the waiter said was trout. It wasn't trout, nevertheless, it was a nice fillet of white fish well prepared, tender and nicely seasoned.
The staff was rather clueless. When I responded to our waiter's inquiry about the duck that it was dry, he looked perplexed, then came back and offered us free dessert. We declined, finished our wine and left. I doubt this place will be in business a year from now.
The food was amazing. If we had arrived later, the ambiance would've been better, but qe qere the first to arrive. So, the energy wasn't there.
Beautiful historic space right by Woodruff Arts and the High Museum! Outstanding food and service plus some super awesome specialty drinks. Valet parking too! A MUST for Foodies!
We had a lovely dinner before attending a play at the Alliance theater. We were the only diners at the time which is such a shame because the food was so good. The wine list is excellent!!!
We valet parked for a $5 charge and I asked them if I could leave the car until the play was over and they said sure it would be $10 which is much less than the parking deck.
Staff was friendly & welcoming.
This will be our go to place when we visit the Alliance Theater or the High Museum.
We were excited to have dinner reservation but upset we had to cancel as we got in the middle of Atlanta traffic. We did have time to have cocktails and drinks at the bar. Our bartender Rashad was fantastic!! Food was great and he made sure our food came so that we could make our show. We looking forward to our next night out at this establishment.
Amazing food, great service and a nice atmosphere
I really want to love this place. This was my third visit. I gave them the benefit of the doubt on the first two, because they had only just opened. I’ve read reviews about them not being able to keep up with a crowd, and unfortunately that was the case Thursday night. I thought the food was quite good, and the servers were excellent. But there were only two guys in the kitchen trying to turn out food for the whole restaurant, which was packed for pre-theater at the arts center next-door. I can understand that happening once by accident. But based on the reviews it seems to be their business plan. I might go back, but never on a night when I have to get in and out in less than two hours to make a curtain.
Let me start by saying our sever, Chet, was fantastic; he continually kept us up to date on the numerous issues in the kitchen. The hostess was very unprofessional and the kitchen was a disaster. Our salad course never showed. 3 of our party was served an entree and by the time we were finished, our 4th had yet to be served.. Management needs to follow up on this lack of communication between the front of the house, the servers and the kitchen. Really disappointing experience all around. I was also marked as a no show when the manager himself seated us.
Service was good, but they were out of 2 of the 3 entrees we ordered. We got an expensive charcuterie and there wasn't any mustard or soft cheese on there. All of the meals we did end up getting seemed under seasoned as well.
We were going to the theater and we got in in plenty of time and ordered and our food came out in a timely manner. Our waiter was very nice but the restaurant was understaffed, chaotic, and very overwhelmed with the Theatre crowd. For a restaurant right across the street from the Atlanta arts complex they should be in a rhythm by now of handling theater crowds.
New spot for us, but we liked the location (next to the High Museum) and found the food good and the service ok. A manager readily agreed to reseat us away from a ver cold AC down draft and he was alert to the service needs of diners. Wine was reasonable and top shelf. Noise level rose after 8:00 but wasn’t awful. We will go again, and hopefully, sit outside for the music and nice views.
We sat upstairs, outside on the porch. That was a lovely setting. It felt intimate while also being open air with view into trees and arts center.
The distance from the kitchen posed a challenge for the waiter. He had to run back and forth 3 times to get all our dinner plates for a party of four. And, we had to wait for that process to complete before getting our silverware replenished to begin eating. Finally, glasses of wine requested with “1st plate drop” didn’t show up until we were all done eating and ready for the check. (Thankfully, waiter didn’t charge us for them).
And the food. Seemed creative, but a pronounced sweetness was present nearly everywhere. Fried calamari were over sauced in a sweet/hot sauce. The duck confit came with a mound of sweet onion jam (tasty jam, just too much) the plate was dressed in a sweet balsamic reduction. The saving grace was a swipe of cauliflower puree for foundation. And, the scallops appeared sweetly sauced (though this reviewer did not taste them).
Prices for mains sit at $28 and up ($40 for the sea bass). Salads and starters were in the $10-12+ and looked large enough to share. Same for the vegetable sides: sized for sharing.
Finally live music on the patio competed with 80’s music pumping through the speakers.
Inside dining appeared to be noticably louder due to lots of hard surfaces.
All in all, good for it location for pre show dining. Not becessarily a destination experience.
Our experience was that the noise level more than offset the very good food, fine service, and outstanding wine list. I was sitting only a few feet from my wife and yet we could hardly hear each other. We noticed that many other diners were looking and using their cell phones who probably never noticed their isolation or did the phones provide the needed help. We passed on dessert in order to get out of the noise. This was our fourth time at Rose and Rye and in retrospect the prior visits were when the restaurant was far emptier or our table was in the area of the stairs leading up to the terrace. This could be a favorite pre-symphony or Alliance dining place but for the noise.
I chose this place because of its proximity to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Hall (Woodruff Center which includes the High Museum).
Outside dining accompanied by cooler temps and elevation above street level noise ushered in relaxation during an early dinner before the symphony. Perfect setting and location!
Nice ambiance, good food, and wonderful hospitality.
For the price, the quality really isn’t there. It’s a beautiful restaurant but it was extremely noisy and we were crammed at a small table by the bathroom hallway even though the restaurant was only half full.
This was our first time dining with R&R, and we were very impressed and pleased. Wait staff was excellent, very personable. Cocktails were nice and the food was fantastic, especially the scallops. We had show plans with the symphony and this was an excellent choice for pre-show dinner. Popular place, and once it filled up, it was very noisy. That would be my only issue, but that is not unusual for an Atlanta restaurant.
We arrived for our reservation early, were seated, did not speak to a server for more than 10 minutes. A waiter finally appeared and we were informed that they were sold out of several apps and that we could not order a main dish. And that we needed to order drinks and apps right then. We were taken aback, rushed and confused. Drinks took another 20 minutes. The. Apps took 30 minutes and then we got our check without asking for it and were not checked on at all. Overall experience was terrible. The little amount of food we tried was good. Don’t go on a Friday night. I guess they can’t handle it.
Food and service was excellent! Ambiance was great! Noise level slightly high. Need Kahlua or Bailey’s for after dinner coffee drinks.
The food was poor and the service was worse we did not get our food until after an hour after we ordered. And the order was wrong
