I'd been walking past this place for ages, and to be completely honest, was always a little put off by the chunky, ugly wine glasses. Sounds superficial, but my experience says it's a sign. That said, it was always busy, and 5 stars on Yelp is hard to argue with. Well, should have gone with my gut, or taken the fettucini alfredo on the menu as a hint. Two stars sounds harsh, but the caption on Yelp says "Meh. I've experienced better," which is exactly how I would sum it up. Our server seemed to be a busboy to whom they had assigned two or three tables. He was barely present, didn't speak up, and looked at me like I had two heads when I asked for some salt for the table (instead of him salting my entire dish with a giant salt grater, like a pepper grater.) To be fair, he did bring a nice little saucer of flakey sea salt. The menu was honestly uninspiring. The food itself was not bad, but not great either. My papardelle was OK, but not house made, and the eggplant was cut so thin it blended in with the pasta and didn't have a ton of flavor. Our bottle of wine was also "meh." There are so many GREAT places to go now in San Diego, this will definitely not be on my list of places to return to.
The food was somewhat of a let down, but the
First time there, had a great time! However, my friends were 10minutes late. During that time, the man in charge of reservations/seating kept pressuring me about whether my friends were going to show up or not. Furthermore, he referred to me as "dude", not professional. It's ok though, just a tiny smudge on an overall fabulous time! My friend from overseas really enjoyed it as well. The food was great, the waiter was awesome, and the wine excellent! Left feeling very happy and relaxed
Absolutely the best Italian food I had in US. Their tortellini is a dream. Arancini is soft and light and crispy on the outside - I just can't stop dreaming about it. I rush to RoVino every time I visit San Diego. According to ALL of the people that I introduced to this restaurant - food has no equal. If you want to impress someone special, take them there.
Best new favorite Italian restaurant - the food melts in your mouth.
Great food and service. Love the feel. High quality menu with home style touch. Great place to go again and again
This is a small Italian restaurant that has wonderful and creative food . Our party of 5 enjoyed it immensely. Service was impeccable and everyone could not have been more accommodating. This is a must in Little Italy! You will not be disappointed!
Awesome food a few to many flies! Great service and wine list.
We always have a great meal here. Great food & attentive service.
Small and quaint...waiter was really accommodating and nice!
Great meal, good ambiance, good service, what more could you ask for.
Food was delicious and great service
The food and service were both amazing!! This is a must do for my husband when we visit town.
Great service, the staff is very attentive
4 of us went to Rovino 5:30 on a weeknight before a show at the Civic Theatre - our waiter was darling and helped us order quite a bit of food mostly off the HH menu -all of it was delicious! We also tried the arugula salad and prosciutto flatbread not on the HH menu both amazing - 2 different bottles of Italian chardonnay both priced well and great dry white wines. I would definitely go back as it was reasonably priced and we had great service!
Brussel Sprouts are amazing the rest of the food is pretty good.
Food is delicious and authentic. My first stop when in San Diego.
This was our second visit in May because we loved our first visit. We were not disappointed. The last time we were there, we ordered too much food but loved everything. (Some things more than others but it was all good) Note the person (owner/manager?) what took our order last time warned us that we had ordered a lot--we didn't listen. This time when we tried to order some of the same dishes, the owner/manager who remembered us said "I wish you would order something that you didn't have last time so you can see what we have to offer." It was terrific advice, we were not disappointed. The culminating dish was a whole branzino which was spectacular. (a hair overcooked for me but I've been accused of liking my fish raw....) If you are in Little Italy, please do not hesitate to book!
So nice to slow down and enjoy the meal! Amazing menu selections, great wine. I had the gnocchi and my boyfriend had the tortellini both were perfect.
We arrived early for our reservation and were able to be seated. Our server was very attentive and even turned down a speaker for the music to be softer as the speaker was right over our heads. Food was delicious. My son had the shrimp scampi and my husband and I had the Chicken stuffed tortellini both were delicious. We will definitely go back!
Rovino never disappoints! The food is always delicious, ambiance is quaint, and service is excellent.
Lovely gem in the middle of a very competitive restaurant market. Incredible chicken with just the right amount of herbs. Wine selection is pretty large for such a small place. You will feel like you’re in a typical Italian outdoor eatery
We had a great experience. We stopped by for an early lunch, ordered a bottle of Prosecco and enjoyed several dishes from their small plates section of the menu. Our favorite was the octopus but everything we ordered was very good. The server warned us the we probably ordered too much food and he was completely right but we were heading home (Utah) and couldn’t resist getting a variety for our last San Diego meal for this trip. If you are in little Italy, it is completely worth stopping here....if you can get a reservation!
Excellent fresh made pasta! Antonia and the team have a great intimate dining experience.
The four of us who had dinner on Friday night were thrilled with the food! It is cozy and friendly. Owners are welcoming and attentive. We will be back and I am letting my friends know about it!
Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts. They were probably some of the best I have had anywhere. The calamari was good. The artichoke was alright.
Entrees: Lasagna is great. Steer clear of the branzino. It is filled with little tiny bones. Would have been good if not for that.
Drinks: Wine and Beer only
Dessert: We did not order but they looked amazing!
Service: Great... however, server did not smile very often, nor respond when we said "thank you"
Ambience: Cute but small. Chairs slide around a bit on floor, need felt pads.
Would def. return to eat those Brussels again and to try their desert!
Exceptional customer service and the food is absolutely amazing! I always can’t wait to come back again
Food was ultra tasty, service was great. The dining space is small but nicely laid out. We will be back!
Great service and very good food. Small and tight setting but nice feel. Would return.
Great service and even better food. Amazing pasta. Thanks Tom
Fantastic Italian food and the service was outstanding. I'm definitely going back there again the next time I'm in San Diego!
Our waiter was a delight as was each of our orders. I would return simply for the octopus.
Our dinner was excellent. Good food and good service. I highly recommend!
Awesome food, great atmosphere and excellent service. We love Tom!!!
My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new, so we decided to go to Little Italy (we live in Carmel Valley). We chose Rovino because of the 5 star rating on Yelp. It's rare you see an overall 5 star rating, so we had to try it. We now understand the rating!
We started with the Carciofi Arrosto (roasted artichoke), which was so much better than we thought it would be. It was delicious. I would definitely recommend it if you like artichokes.
For our entrees, we shared the Antipasto Flatbread and the Pasta con Crema di Piselli. The Flatbread was amazing. The crust was so good, and the vegetables were cooked just right, and the flavor was outstanding. The pasta was our favorite though! Wow what a flavor! My boyfriend and I are both Italian, and he works at an Italian restaurant. We both agreed it was one of the best pasta dishes we've ever had!! The sauce was very light for a cream sauce, if you're worried about that. We realized as we were practically licking the plate that our entire meal was vegetarian, unintentionally.
The service was relaxed but attentive at the same time. We were not rushed, but he was there at all the right times. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and agreed we'd be back again just for the pasta!
We cant wait to try some other dishes. There are SO many good choices on the menu!
Not really fond of many Italian places let alone calling any of them one of my top picks for a restaurant. However my visit to Rovino has changed that. This is for sure my favorite Italian restaurant now. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding, always checking in and making sure every detail was to our liking.
First time visiting this place. We came from another state so we were looking for some fine dining experience in San Diego in the area of Little Italy. We love the food , the ambiance and the service very good. We will return to this place when we come back again to San Diego.
This was our first time at RoVino and we will definitely be coming back. The food and service were excellent, and the ambiance charming. We had the Carni Misti- the meat was tender, flavorful and perfectly seasoned. We went for our anniversary, and we appreciate the complimentary champagne.
Absolutely excellent dinner - what a pleasant surprise. Without a doubt the best shrimp scampi I've ever had (and that says quite a lot). The only ding for the restaurant is the noise level. Very hard to have a conversation. I had a client dinner there, sat inside, and had to speak very loudly. Perhaps the patio would be a better choice!
The rotisserie chicken was exceptional! I celebrated my birthday here with my boyfriend recently. Hands down, the best rotisserie I’ve ever had. Adam, our waiter was very attentive and made great recommendations. Additionally, the entire wait staff was extremely hospitable. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and will definitely be back on my next trip to San Diego!!
