Rowland's Restaurant at Westglow Resort and Spa
Location, Food, Staff, Service, all over the top. If you don't dine at Rowland's, you are missing one of the best dining opportunities you might ever have the pleasure to share.
New menu is awesome and a nice change. Food has been fabulous as well as service. One of my new fav places to dine.
Amazing food and service! Views from the location are spectacular!
We love Westglow. It is our favorite restaurant! They consistently create a great atmosphere with incredible food and service.
This was once the best restaurant in the high country. So, expectations are set fairly high. This experience was not to the standards of this generally exceptional resort. Maybe this was an outlier— a one time double bogie.
We had a lovely anniversary dinner! Their drinks were great and we were also offered a short history tour of the house. The food was also very good. It is a bit expensive but you do really have a fine dining experience. Would recommend, especially for a special occasion.
The staff here is superb! They are so knowledgeable, gracious and accommodating. The food was amazing, classic yet modern, so perfectly balanced! Setting is beautiful!
Several weeks ago we went to Rolands for dinner just to choose a table for the dinner we planned for the night before New Year’s Eve with friends. The food was poor and the service slow, but we thought, perhaps—hopefully—it was just a bad night. Anyway, we arrived with our friends this evening. We waited outside with the car at valet sign for the valet. Finally went in and, upon request, learned that the valet was not working that evening. Had to initiate greeting at reception desk and no one offered to take our coats. Got our table and, after some wait, inquired about drinks and learned that their bartender had quit but that the dining room night manager, who works two night a week, was double timing as a bartender. We ordered drinks with ginger ale mixers and then, again after some wait, our table waiter came out and said they had no ginger ale because they had not gotten a delivery—no real alternatives were proposed even after I offered to make a 30 minute round trip to a grocery store to get ginger ale. After some table discussion, we decided this just wasn’t the right place and decided to leave. In all fairness, as were we’re leaving the person at the reception desk did ask us if she could take our coats. When we said no, that we had decided to leave, no one tried to intercept us to persuade us to stay. Oh well, just not a good experience.
Rowland’s used to be famous for its service and food, but something appears to have happened to both.
One of the most romantic environments in which I have had the pleasure of dining.
They’ve done an incredible job reserving the intended look and feel of the home. The food was delicious.
Location is so beautiful they could get away with “only ok” food but - as a chef in NYC - I have to say the quality of ingredients and focus on flavor were world class.
I guess I will never quite understand the price of Fine Dining. I have had just as good for half the price.
Food was very good but me myself never see paying $50.00 for one small steak and a drop of potatoes, good thing we had a gift certificate.
Great dinner but they missed my message about it being our anniversary. They had a large party so I assume the message was lost.
Pricey, but worth it for food, setting, service. Simply lovely.
Hi dining at Rowland’s makes for such a special evening. It’s very relaxing and is such an warm environment. It’s elegant without being stuffy. The food and the service were excellent , making for a very memorable dining experience.
Very nice restaurant. Top notch for fine dining. Beautiful grounds as well. Service outstanding.
Unfortunately, this wedding anniversary dinner at Rowland's didn't prove to be a good experience for us. Our server was basically out of touch for most of the evening. She didn't check on us as often as we would have preferred, and our entrees (lamb and filet) were cold when they arrived. The salads were good, and a more knowledgeable employee did offer us a bottle of pinot noir at a good price given that they didn't have our choice from their wine menu in stock. We noticed that another server/waiter was much more on top of things with his dinner guests. The establishment was also out of Maker's Mark which my husband ordered upon arrival. When we arrived, the hostess at the front desk of Westglow wished us a happy anniversary, and that was the end of the well wishes. Our server didn't recognize that it was a special occasion. I'm not sure that our waitress is cut out to attend to people in a resort setting. We certainly expected more from this experience. Perhaps it was just a bad night for the chef and our waitress.
This was a birthday dinner for my wife. The service was very good. Unfortunately, my $46 rack of lamb was tough, small in proportion and without any real additional food for the main course. I spoke to our waitress about it and she reported this to the kitchen. Neither the manager or the chef, came to our table to ask about it or offer any concern. They did take $15 of the check but I was not interested in that. Hard to believe that this is still a Relais & Chateaux property. We have stayed other Relais & Chateaux properties around the world and have never had a disappointing experience like this ! We often come to Blowing Rock for vacation from Orlando and will never stop here again or recommend the restaurant for our friends or anyone else. Shame on you!
I was surprised by the lack of elegance in our brunch. Service was mediocre with poor tasting coffee (bitter) served from a plastic thermos.
Brunch was lacking choice and tasted fair at best. Shrimp and grits with tails in, no side plate to discard tails. Why would you not tail the shrimp!
The spinach and goat cheese omelette with hard crispy potato’s lack any flair. No local jam or jelly or honey offered with muffin, just hard butter and apple butter.
Perhaps just an off day, but we won’t be back.
The entrees were inedible. The salmon ordered medium rare was medium well and tough. The lamb ordered medium rare was raw and cool in the middle. We did not eat the entrees and informed the the waiter why. He was apologetic but at that point the manager should have come and had the entrees recooked properly or at minimum taken off the bill. The manager never appeared. They pride themselves on the wine list but they did not have port of any kind. Even if the food were good the restaurant is way overpriced.
Beautiful setting. We arrived before the sun went down. The feel is a little pretentious, but not that big of a deal. I only say that because it is not someplace you would wear jeans and expect a bunch of loud people. The piano player was extraordinary - really fabulous. Service was good, and the food was well prepared. I'm glad we went, and I would return again.
Setting and atmosphere amazing! Service very good! Food while good was overpriced for portions and some foods were a miss like corn brûlée. Banana split awesome, cheesecake served at room temperature not as appetizing (colder better).
Glad can say I have been.
Brunch is fantastic and very affordable. Service is slow however... seems they cook one meal at a time. May want to make a reservation a little after it opens... seems the larger crowd all at one time overwhelmed the kitchen
The food and service were outstanding. Noelle is a fantastic waitress and helped us in every way. We like the atmosphere and it's outstanding too.
Wife’s birthday. A truly amazing evening!
Amazing location and view at sunset. Service and facility are impeccable. However, food was flat. Caesar sald tasted like bag salad. Chicken was ok but needed some zing.
Go for ambiance and service and view. Maybe just drinks and light bite.
A visit to Rowland’s is always a huge treat! The food and service are top notch. It is quire simply the best restaurant we’ve ever been to.
My husband and I enjoyed the Sunday brunch. The food was delicious ( super fresh eggs) and the service was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back for dinner!
Wonderful ambiance in elegant setting for special occasion dining. Food good but pricey. Piano playing on Saturday nights only which makes that a great time to go there.
One of the best dining experience ever. Make sure you time your meal with sunset. It’s an event made perfect by the location, hospitality and food.
Lovely dinner and experience.
Sunset was breathtaking !
Food was well prepared and presented.
Supreme in every way.
Nice environment but food grossly overpriced and supposedly fresh fish obviously frozen. Should have sent it back. Nice place for a sunset drink on the porch but would go elsewhere to dine
Rowland's never disappoints! This was our third time here to celebrate our anniversary and everything was superb.
One of best two or three best world class restaurants in the Banner Elk/Boone/Blowing Rock area. Wonderful ambiance in elegant surroundings with sensational mountain views!! Not inexpensive but well worth every penny for those who value fine dining. Reserve well ahead particularly in the summer time.
The food was absolutely amazing and the view Spectacular !
One of the best meals I have eaten in a very long time.
Good food, a bit pricey though for what it delivers.
We are always warmly greeted by the valet, the reservation desk, the hostess, the waitstaff and this was no exception. It was my birthday, and I was given birthday wishes by everyone - including a “birthday card” on the table. The food was impeccably cooked, exactly to our preferred levels of doneness. The waiter was efficient and pleasant, always ensured our wine glasses were re-filled from the wine chiller nearby, but was not In our faces as some waiters can be. We sat in the sun room this time - a lovely setting surrounded by flowers, plants and just the right amount of early evening sunlight. The music was perfect for the occasion and was neither too loud nor too soft to hear. This is a magical setting in the Blue Ridge which has never disappointed and it continued to earn the high marks afforded it. Definitely keep this on your list for special occasion restaurants when in Blowing Rock or Boone.
Elegant setting with attentive service. The charcuterie w cheese was very good, especially the mustard and honey accompaniment. The Chilean Seabass was excellent, chicken - good but not unique. The Caesar salad dressing seemed a bit off. The server was knowledgeable and enjoyable talk with.
We always enjoy our meal at Rowland and only go on special occasions. They do an excellent job with my husbands allergies. The only downside is ordering after dinner drinks. My husband asked if they could make him an Irish coffee and I asked for coffee with baileys. My drink was a $9 coffee and a $9 shot of baileys. Same as the cost of an appetizer if not more. My husbands Irish coffee totaled to $32. $9 for the coffee $9 for the baileys and $14 for the Jamison. We were so sticker shocked that we didn’t say anything but should have. So a little warning. Ask for cost before ordering a non menu drink.
