We booked a table which was fine but too close to the bar serving area to be be Covid safe!
Most of the menu had sold out including all chicken, fish and chips, steak ale pie, steaks etc etc. this was at 2.30 and they were still taking bookings for the same evening.
My partner ended up with a SMALL childs portion with a few chips and carrots(peas also off)
The sticky toffee pudding was good and generous but too littlr too late!
Why couldn’t the staff pop out and buy more food to prepare???

We visited mid afternoon the pub was warm and friendly. The staff were very attendant and very much on the job! The drinks were good and the food of high quality. We will visit again for sure.keep up the great work!

Brilliant Staff. Very Attentive. Proactive approach to Covid. Reduced tables. Good drinks selection. Food AWESOME recommend the Mushroom Starter and Corn Beef Hash main. Clean and welcoming.

We were greeted warmly and quickly seated by a frienfly and helpful waitress. The food we ordered was freshly cooked and delicious. This place is tucked away near the canal but worth searching out. We'll go there again.

Unfortunately, we were turned away for our 13:15 booking. They had allegedly "told" OpenTable that they had a pre-arranged function. I suspect user error on their part. No genuine apology from the restaurant but continued effort to blame OpenTable.

After travelling long distance (for Covid permitted reason, I add), this was very frustrating. We were not willing to wait until 15:00 for a possible seat. I asked if they could help with an alternative booking, but they simply pointed at another pub!!

Can't rate the food properly, and NEVER put myself in the place that I can try it in the future. I will however continue to tell my Yorkshire friends of our terrible experience.

From booking to sitting down and eating the food and service was excellent i couldnt fault it.

It was easy to find. Food was well cooked and presented with very healthy portions of local produce.

Great to be met at the door by such welcoming people. Service and staff are great. Will most certainly return.

We went for Sunday lunch and were impressed by the food and Yorkshire sized portions! We would visit again.

We had a fabulous meal for six. A real variety of food and all superb. The steak and ale pie and fishcakes were excellent

Good choice on the menu plus specials board. Food was excellent and good value. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Felt very welcome and safe in these strange times. Would recommend!

Had a lovely Sunday roast when visiting Skipton. Portions were big and all tasty. Service was good. Felt safe, as tables were well separated.

Warmly welcomed and quickly seated. The food was excellent and portions enormous. We were so full after attempting the main there is no way we could have managed a pudding. A lovely traditional pub on the side of the canal with good beer and food at reasonable prices what's not to like. Wouldn't hesitate to return if in the area.

Warm welcome, there was a birthday party and the group apologised for any noise .. but to be fair they were very good . The staff kept checking we were ok and the food was excellent and big portions so go there hungry. The owner came and chatted with us overall we will definitely go back next time were there visiting.

The reason why I gave it a bad score is because 5 mins before we were supposed to arrive they rang up and said they had to cancel our reservation because they had run out of food.

The pub was particularly busy given the eat in to help out scheme. The staff were friendly and advised of the waiting time on arrival and again before ordering. Being local to the area I've never eaten here but would happily go again. Value for money.

Dined here with my sister and daughter. On arrival we gave the name but they couldn’t find our booking. We told them we’d booked online but they said they hadn’t checked the online bookings today. We were seated on a table by the door. Both my sister and little girl wanted sausage and mash but on ordering we were told they could only do a child’s portion of mash as they needed it for the shepherds pie. My sister ordered steak and ale pie with chips instead and I ordered lasagne which was supposed to come with garlic bread and salad so I ordered a side of chips to go with it. When the food came, my lasagne came with chips not garlic bread so we ended up with double the amount of chips. My little girl commented that her sausage and mash meal was ‘spicy’. I tasted it and it was so heavily seasoned with pepper it was inedible, as was the gravy that came with my sister’s pie and chips. My lasagne was extremely bland. Got the feeling they didn’t have a grasp of safety procedures as I overheard another party complain their table was too close to another table and the table and menus felt grubby. Very disappointing meal and so we won’t be returning.

A pub in a side street off the main drag can put people off, dont let it!! This is a great pub with a hearty food menu and lovely staff. It was quite quiet when we went but the food was fab, freshly made and piping hot, the portions large and the wine delicious.
Quietly efficient staff who were not in your space but around if you need them!

What a find! A friend recommended The Royal Shepherd. We were not disappointed! The food is amazing, the staff lovely and friendly. Doggy friendly too, what more could you ask for? We will definitely be back

Went for the first time as a change to our usual lunch spot. Food portions were massive. Cooked to order but wait time was acceptable. We had ours in the small snug on right hand side of the bar. Happily go back wife had a Royal burger and I had gammon steak both came with salad chips and onion rings.

We booked on open table and had a confirmation email to say reservation had been accepted. We then turned up to an empty pub where we were told someone tried to contact us (no attempts, missed calls or emails received). Apparently they had limited kitchen so smaller menu. That was fine and we both ordered a burger. There was only 1 left so got sausage and mash too. We sat down in a very quiet empty pub. Mash was definitely frozen, veg was incredibly over cooked. Sausages were nice though. The burger was tasty but the bun very dry and the chips undercooked. No ketchup available which would have made them easier to eat. There was no discount offered for the limited menu or failure to let us know. We left disappointed and my husband was still hungry! Such a shame we won't be back.

Absolutely shocking would never go back again. Ordered the big burger it wasn't the cheapest and it was rock hard and the burger bun was dry. Disgusting.

We come here a lot and bring the family over, they all love it, it's the first time we've been there for Xmas dinner, but we knew it would be good, really enjoyed it, staff were friendly and accommodating, great value

Overall a poor experience. We were greeted by a lady working the bar with a lollipop sticking out of her mouth. The chef was under pressure running a kitchen and a carvery. Her apron was dirty. She shouted from one room to another asking what the soup was. When she came from the kitchen to the carvery she was just finishing a piece of toast, and after wiping her mouth with her hand, she proceeded to cut the meat at the carvery. The waitress had no idea of the table lay out and went round the restaurant with food trying to work out where the correct table was. Overall the food was poor and expensive. We will not go back again.
