Russian Tea Time
Russian Tea Time Platter
To tantalize your palate we start with a tasting of meat dumplings, chicken kebob, stuffed mushrooms, carrot salad, beet caviar, chick pea spread, and cracked wheat and vinaigrette salads. Followed by a sampling of our most timeless dishes; beef stroganoff, stuffed cabbage, Moldavian meatballs, chicken Pozharskie, brown rice
Classic Beef Stroganoff
Our most popular entrée! Lean sirloin beef pieces sautéed and simmered in sour cream, Madeira wine, mushrooms, onions dill. Served over buckwheat with noodles, with carrot salad and beets
Classic Stuffed Cabbage Golubtsi
Cabbage roll stuffed with a traditional filling of ground beef, chicken, carrots, and sautéed onions. Simmered in sweet and sour tomato sauce. Served with buckwheat kasha, sour cream and carrot salad
Food could have been better, tea was good, different blends for sure!
Just needs more seasoning!
We went for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant was nicely decorated and tables were spread out so no one was within 10 feet of you. We started with flavored vodka shots which were very good and different. We decided to order one of the family platters to try a variety of appetizers and main courses. Everything was tasty and we finished it all. At the end of the meal the waiter surprised us with a complimentary neopolitan cake for dessert and topped it off with another shot of flavored vodka. The overall experience was top shelve and we will return again to try other entrees.
Yummy Russian food
Nice Ethnic Restaurant. Waitress was awesome. Ambiance is nice. Highly recommend.
Impeccable service and wonderful and fun tea service
Great food and server was attentive, but he had his mask under his nose. Not cool when serving food during a pandemic!
Food was mediocre and service unfriendly.
Excellent food. The stuffed cabbage was the best I ever had!!
Extremely slow service, okay food, great desserts & tea
Had a good meal there after four hours in the Institute of Art. Good Russian food.
They were out of my favorite food there
Restaurant did not have enough servers, and food to serve. One of our friends have been waiting for his salad 1 hour 25 minutes. And 4 our orders were canceled, because they did not have enough food on the kitchen. On the menu was 14 meat dumplings for $22, but they served us 12, 3 of them were broken and they said it was all what is left. This time for us was disappointment.
We were there to celebrate a birthday and the waiter didn’t acknowledge it was a birthday celebration . 1 waiter for the entire restaurant. He did his best .
Refreshed the interior...looks great. Food and service better than ever!
As a Russian I greatly appreciated the authenticity of the food and the warmth of the staff. It felt like being home in St.Petersburg again. I can't wait to come back. 1
Fantastic dining experience! Highly recommend
love this place and enjoy the tea options. I think it is the only place in downtown Chicago that serves tea all day which I love! Great setting and delicious herring. You must try one of their vodka flights.
Great experience, but the service was very slow. It was over an hour before anything other than water was brought to our table. Could’ve just been bad timing though with other parties. It was such a fun experience with a group of friends and so unique. I would highly recommend!!
Place was beautiful and tea service was fantastic. We were serviced promptly when buzzed and have a great time! Will go again to try their lunch and dinner and have recommended for others. Thank you!
Excellent food and service.
Perfect soup on a cold day!
Delicious. Loved the tea and food. Service is slow but would still come again
My friends and I went to the Monet Exhibit at the Art Institute and then enjoyed a late lunch at the Russian Tea Restaurant. I called them from the Institute to see if we could come earlier than our scheduled reservation and they said "fine". This is in the midst of the Pandemic....so when we arrived there were very few people dining. Social distancing and masks were in order. Our waiter was super. Our drinks, (especially the Russian Vodka) and our meals were perfect. I hope that this lovely restaurant can survive this Pandemic, they deserve to for sure! Please, if you are in that area stop in to enjoy the restaurant.
The restaurant was sparkling clean, comfortable. Russian food was delicious and service was excellent. I love the endless refills of Russian tea.
We enjoyed our dinner at Russian Tea Time. The food was good and plentiful. The service was very attentive. Loved the experience.
Everything about the restaurant was amazing from the food, staff, tea, and environment. I can't wait to come and try this again with my friends.
Great staff! They explained the foods. Great tasting food and tea!
Thank you for all your support! Looking forward to welcoming you back soon.
The lighting for dinner is way too bright. It felt like eating at a diner. The food was also disappointing.
Dawn, We're disappointed to hear that your first meal back with us wasn't what you were anticipating. The team and I do our best to ensure each order comes out as soon as possible and apologize this wasn't the case this time. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. We hope you'll consider giving us another chance to impress you in the future.
Great experience at our favorite restaurant in Chicago. So glad to have all of our favorite cruise items and beverages served in style again!
Cynthia, Thank you very much for your support, we appreciate it and would love to see you again.
Enjoyed our afternoon tea service here! It was our first time here. We do afternoon tea often, whenever we travel. This was the only restaurant we could find in Chicago that is currently open for tea service during the pandemic era. The restaurant is clean, diners were spaced out about every other table at least. We were taken to a separate dining room in back where there were only two other diners in the whole room, so plenty of distance.
Servers were attentive. Food was very tasty, though the sandwiches were very small (basically just one-bite size instead of finger sandwiches), and the scones were a little smaller than we are used to. However, the price is very reasonable for their tea service, so can't complain too much. The background music wasn't the usual classical-type music that you would expect during afternoon tea. It sounded like Russian folk music, perhaps? Since it's a Russian restaurant that serves traditional Russian lunch and dinner food items, it's probably more in keeping with the tone for those meals. But I'm very glad that they offer their afternoon tea service in addition to their regular menu options, and it's a great location, right across the the street from the Art Institute and Millenium Park! Would definitely recommend this place.
Rose, Thank you very much for such a detailed and positive review. We are very glad to see that we met your expectations. We would love to see you again whenever you are back in Chicago.
The only high tea place I could find still operating - everything else seems to have been shut down due to COVID. Great location next to the art museum. Everything was delicious.
We appreciate you leaving this review! Hope you make it back our way again.
Fun fun fun
Thank you very much for your review and support!
First time back since remodel/re-opening. Took family who had never eaten here before. The food and service were top notch, love the new look of the space. We enjoyed dumplings, stuffed cabbage, beef stroganoff and chicken Kiev. Lovely meal and highly recommend.
Mary, Thanks so much for the compliments to our establishment. We're delighted that you had a great meal with us. We hope to see you again soon!
Outstanding Chicago gem. The food is really exceptional. The homemade vodka flights a delight. Were understaffed day of, but they made up for it with their hospitality. Glad they are open again.
We appreciate you stopping by and letting us know that you enjoyed your time here. We'll be looking forward to the next time you join us!
It was very immersive, and the tea was exactly the flavor I expected. There was a lot of food for the money, and it was prepared in a beautiful way.
Love the honey cake and house tea.
I am so glad they reopened after remodeling!! It looks so. Beautiful!! The food is always soo delicious and I LOVE their vodka flights!!
My mother and I had a lovely time here for dinner. I was really sad though because I wanted Pelmeni but they didn’t have those. It sort of ruined our evening. Our waitresses were very friendly. Thank you for still holding our reservation even when we were a little late. Your food reminded me of home. (Kazakhstan)
Thank you Anya, for your review, we appreciate your support. We will make sure to have enough pelmenis for your next visit, please visit our website for renovation pictures and dates and sing up to be invited to our Grand Opening Events.
Just loved it as always and service was amazing!
