Sakerum was delicious! Went here for the first time and really enjoyed the happy hour. The items were not only reasonably priced, but delicious. We had the Yakatori (sp?) skewers, spicy tuna roll, crispy and grilled wings, sake, house wine, some other fancy drink—and it was ALL delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try the full menu. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent!! Shoutout to Kitty!!
The cashew lime Edamame was the best I’ve ever had. The speciality rolls were different and delicious and even the plain rolls like spicy tuna had a nice flavor. These rolls had a little more rice than I typically like but overall it was a wonderful meal and I would return.
Good, we were there celebrating a friend’s birthday. A little limited on items
Great food and good ambiance except the music was a bit loud which caused us to yell at each other while dining. Good food. Great service. Will definitely go back with maybe some a loud speaker to talk to my friends at the table
This was my first visit to Sakerum. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Sakerum is also a great place for a date or girls night meet up for dinner and drinks, or a small birthday gathering with friends. The restaurant reminds me of a sushi spot in LA that I visited before. The sushi was delicious and craftily made with great sushi options as well. The miso soup was the best I've had in the DMV area EVER! The waitress was very friendly and attentive. I'm so happy I finally tried Sakerum because they didn't disappoint me at all. I can't wait to go back again once the weather breaks.
My husband and I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere here at Sakerum. We would definitely recommend this place.
Everything was great
we had to wait 40 mins for our table even though we had a reservation but at least they gave us free drinks for the wait
The sushi was great. After the long wait time even with having a reservation, I'd give it another try.
Food and service were good. Only issue was being informed we had 90 minutes to eat when we were seated. Reason given was the restaurant was overbooked. This is unacceptable as we had made a reservation two weeks prior to our visit. Also should note, we were a party of four and it took 15 minutes to get our cocktails.
Date night for my husband and myself wanting to have some good sushi. Wonderful to know there are more choices near our house.
I really enjoyed this place when it first opened. The sushi quality was great. During this visit, the quality of the fish was very poor. The yellowtail was really dry and didn't taste like yellowtail. I will be giving this place another chance, but I was disappointed.
We love sakerum - the rooftop is beautiful and makes you feel as though you are not in DC at all. Food is delicious, although a little pricier than most sushi spots, you get your money's worth. Cocktails are great - Malachi behind the bar is fantastic! Great private dining room and more!
The food was good but everything else was not. Would not come back or recommend to anyone.
I had made an OpenTable reservation at Sakerum specifically requesting a standard table rather than a high top. When we got to the restaurant, however, the hostess sat us at a high top with backless chairs. When we asked if two regular tables could be moved together to accommodate three people she refused and said that they were only for two people despite the fact that there were no other people waiting for a table or that two people could have just been seated at our high top. Instead, we were seated in a small back room at a table with two regular chairs and one folding chair - something that I should never see at a restaurant that charges $6 for miso soup. We had to ask for menus and water several times. We waited for our food for an extremely long time and then it finally came we had no chopsticks or napkins. When we got our chopsticks the waitress told us they didn't have any napkins because they didn't get them from the dry cleaner. This restaurant is way too expensive to have this experience. Not worth the price.
The food was INCREDIBLE - we had cocktails, appetizers (brussels sprouts, octopus, & bao buns) and then some truly amazing sushi. The octopus and sprouts were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I had the Big Crunch Theory roll, and it was honestly one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. That all said, the service really left a lot to be desired. I am a server, so I completely understand when things are busy or a mistake happens, but this was just bad. Our server was nice, but it seemed to be a slow night, and yet everything took forever. It really seemed like she'd forgotten about us on several different occasions. It took 30 minutes after we placed the order just to get our drinks. Getting utensils and napkins, the check, more water, etc. - everything just seemed to take an unreasonable amount of time. I would say if you're willing to pay and wait for some really incredible food, then it's worth it to come here.
It’s not a place to go to with kids, we expected a typical sushi place menu but the menus was very limited. This place is for drinks and light fare not a dinner place. Service was good, they allowed to bring pizza for my child without a word.
Most of our dishes were very good. It is a bit on the expensive side but as soon as you say sushi it always is. I guess I don't want my Sushi to be too cheap.
Things started OK, but after taking initial orders, the server never returned to the table to offer second drinks to anyone as we finished our firsts. Then, when we asked for the check long after finishing the meal, we learned that we hadn't met the minimum per-person spend, so we had to order drinks to make up the difference. It was clear the server didn't give us good service because of the guaranteed minimum spend. Eventually, after we had a round of shots, a few guests explained how the check should be handled. It wasn't overly complicated, but the server stormed off before the guests could finish explaining, and we then waited another 30-40 minutes for her to return with everyone's credit cards. As a result, we were an hour late for my birthday party. I will absolutely never recommend Sakerum to anyone, and I strongly regret choosing it for my birthday dinner.
One of my favorite sushi restaurants! Great for any occasion.
Sakerum is always a good time! The servers and hosts are always very nice. Malachi, bartender, is a great host as well! My friends and I love this place!
Service was friendly. Sushi was great, bao were good, tostones and quac was flavorless. Cozy seats and sexy yet comfy decor were enjoyable. Would come back, but unfortunately likely passing on the Latin American cuisine.
Great sushi! A little pricey, but well worth it! Loved the vibe of this restaurant as well. Would definitely go back.
Loud but fun
Food was fine, nothing special, but not bad. Everything was just expensive for its quality. I had higher expectations than what was served. Really pretty interior though
the only negative about our experience was our service staff - they were unattentive and brought incorrect items
The service is HORRIBLE! SO so bad. It's a shame, too, because the food is actually pretty good. But for the amount of money it costs go to Sakerum - the service falls so flat. From the unorganized host stand to the confusion with ordering - it was just a mess. Again, the food, once you receive is actually great- but the terrible service just ruined our entire experience. I wanted this to be better - and perhaps in more time it will be. In my opinion, stay away. There's good sushi all over DC, with MUCH better service at a far more reasonable price.
Excellent menu. Very friendly staff. Our bartender was awesome. Food was delicious
Food was excellent!
Great food, sat in a very cramped booth for 4 people though.
On Saturday evening, I went to Sakerum with a few friends visiting from out of town. There was a total of 3 of us and we had a reservation. We arrived on time and were taken upstairs, which is what I wanted. However, the hostess attempted to seat us at one of the lower tables with no backrest. Now, I wouldn't have minded if it this was the only seating available, but there were multiple multiple regular tables available. I had to go back and forth with the hostess to get sat at a normal table. Somewhat annoying, but, they eventually helped.
The other frustrating part. My friend got a Yellowtail Roll. Somewhat standard. The yellow tail was definitely bad. We all eat sushi often and this was just old / bad fish. (The other specialty roll and Sashimi were good).
The server was funny, always laughing, and put up with our group well. We thought she did a good job of providing drinks. Unfortunate that the sushi fell a little short and the seating situation was a bit of a headache.
Positives: Ambiance is good, Service was exceptional, pricing wasn't too outrageous.
Great food, really tasty all around. Noise was way too loud, and EDM was not really my jam, but can't fault them on the food and service which was superb.
Best sushi I’ve ever had, period. 150% recommend this spot, but definitely get a reservation.
Sakerum has great ambiance, with low-key electronic music playing in the background with low lighting to set the mood for a night out of partying or to get the energy going at the beginning of a date night. The cocktails are excellent, and the sushi, while not the best I've ever had, is still good, and creative and different.
They are to expensive for what it is! Horrible!
We came her for my birthday and it was awful from the get go. When I arrived, they told me none of my party was there even though I said that my friends were texting me from the table. They would not let me look around, a friend had to come and get me. Then the server would not bring drinks for about 30 minutes and by then we were thirsty and starving. She brought out multiple things incorrectly and never asked if she could make it correct. The food was fine, but came out at weird times, so no one ate at the same time and it was all extremely confusing for our waitress and ultimately us. We asked multiple times for water and never received it. At some point, the restroom ran out of toilet paper and the restaurant resisted replacing it. We even discussed this with guest from other parties. Ultimately, I was very sad and disappointed this was where I came for my birthday. I would not recommend.
Got seated 45 mins late. Still good food
Had a great time. Food was amazing - I had better chicken yakitori here than I did in Japan! And the sushi had such wonderful textures and flavors that all really worked together. Godzilla Crush was my favorite cocktail and it was really something else. Would come back
They gave us the worst table tho I had made my reservation at leave 2 weeks prior. I noticed they did have better tables available bu perhaps because of my foreign name or color of my skin they put me all the way back by the restrooms. Too bad I was there with a group or else I would have never taken the time to eat there. Shame to see this happen in 2018!
We sat at the bar. Our waitress was friendly although the service was slow. She recommended all of the high $ sushi options which we somewhat laughed about. The best part of our meal was the nigiri, although pricey!
The ambiance and service was absolutely amazing. My waitress was Chelsea and she did her job plus plus. Also the other staff was extremely attentive to our needs. The sushi was good, but I think something was missing. I would definitely give them another visit on the strength of the service.
