Decent food - Sushi was good; drinks were good. The menu was kind of expensive, and the waitress, when asked for a recommendation, predictably pointed us to the most expensive options in all categories. Overall it was good, but with so many good restaurants in DC I'll likely not be back. It seems like a place that would be great for Virginia and Maryland people.
I've been to Sakerum three times with each experience varying in terms of satisfaction. The food is usually good, however during my last visit it took a while for the food to come from the kitchen. The service was horrible. The server never returned to ask how our food was nor were they attentive when we were ready to pay. I can understand this to a degree when they are busy, but at 9P on a Tuesday this was not the case. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.
Went here on a date to celebrate our anniversary.
You first walk in to a dark and cozy atmosphere that has a formal dining atmosphere. The restaurant is small with 3 dining sections including a bar area, around 5 raised booths, and then a row of tables. The latter being pretty close together which we sat at. If you have only 2 people in your party, I suggest requesting a booth or simply sitting at the bar. For the occasion I asked to switched to a booth which they declined.
Let me start by saying the food was great. It was very well prepared but, and we may have caught them on an off night, but it was incredibly bad service. It took 45min for us to be served our first drink on a Tuesday night.
If you have the time I would give it a try but it will be a while before I go back.
This place is delicious with a variety of options! The food is creative and very satisfying. Cocktails are tasty too!
Two hiccups - the restaurant doesn't give the dinner menu to customers until after they place drink orders. I find that assuming and uncomfortable. Not to mention, folks often times choose drinks depending on their food. I also requested a candle in desert for my mom's birthday - that didn't happen so I would not recommend for special occasions.
Very fun restaurant - if you're not up for the club-y bar scene, ask to be seated downstairs (if you have a party of 4 or less). We sat upstairs and there was a DJ on Saturday night which meant we had to kind of yell to each other a bit. Also, the tables upstairs are like coffee tables and you are on stools - be prepared to hunch over to eat. Other than that - the food is awesome, very creative, the service was wonderful, the drinks are very well done. (A little on the pricey side - the cocktails add up quick!)
I had one of the best dining experiences at SakeRum. The food was incredible, the service was first class and the ambience of the place is unmatched. We had a private dining room and I proposed to my girlfriend there. Special thank you to the manager David Haile who helped make this night an unforgettable one.
This was my second time here, and it was very disappointing. Our reservation was for 8:30, and the table wasn't ready when we arrived. When we complained after waiting at the bar, the hostess sat us at a table available- she said she assumed we wanted to sit upstairs (we never requested that or were given the option, so I don't really understand that explanation).
When we were finally seated, the service was poor- the waiter took 10 minutes to greet us and take our drink orders, and never asked us throughout the meal if we wanted another round (my drink was empty for at least half the meal). The food itself was ok, but didn't taste great. My friend and I both felt sick later that night.
Overall, great ambiance and maybe a fun spot to come for drinks, but I definitely won't be coming back anytime soon for dinner.
Went to Sakerum with two girlfriends, one was visiting from out of town and loves sushi. We sat upstairs; the decor is very cool and atmosphere was fun. The service at the beginning was wonderful and drinks were great. The appetizers and sushi were delicious. The only fault (not the servers) was how many people they decided to seat upstairs towards the end of the meal. Two large parties arrived and were seated at tables too small for them next to us, which made it difficult to hear. We ended up waiting too long for our drinks that we eventually cancelled our drink order and asked for the check instead. Again, not the servers fault; the bar was very busy and the seating was not spaced appropriately.
The service was quick and the food was excellent (especially impressed with the quality of fish in the nigiri we ordered - hard to find this kind of sushi in DC). Noise level was enough to add some energy to the date without us having to raise our voices across the table at each other. Cocktails were also unique and delicious.
Sakerum exceeded my expectations. We went at 5:30 (before a show) and so it was really quiet, but not there were still a good amount of people there. We sat upstairs at the bar, which is much brighter upstairs. Surprisingly, they had an happy hour, a really good happy hour, and it was a Saturday. The sushi rolls were fresh and creative. I'd go back!
The food we did receive was AMAZING. Truly delicious. They were out of the octopus and the calamari when we went, which was totally okay because they comped the second round of our drinks to make up for it. We didn't make a fuss but I always respect a restaurant more when they're customer service is above and beyond.
First time here and choose roof top to enjoy happy hour. Nice variety of food , sushi and drinks for $5 each during Happy Hour from 530-730 during week and all day Wednesday at bar or roof top. Roof top is enclosed and air conditioned and nice decor. The grilled chicken wings and chicken skewers were excellent. Grilled calamari flavorful too. Service was good and bar was busy. They offer 2 frozen drinks that rotate. Bartender kind to let me try and both refreshing , especially during summer months. I'd come back again to check out other items.
This restaurant single-handedly became my favorite sushi spot in all of DC overnight! The quality of the food is phenomenal. We had the tostones (yes, tostones) and they were absolutely delicious. Followed by their hakaido roll (sp.) and some other magical roll that had tempura shrimp and avocado and a bunch of other delicious things from heaven that melted in your mouth. This is the type of place that you will not be able to decide which dish is your favorite because they are all so good. The ambiance was very chic and cool, not too fancy but definitely not casual. We sat downstairs but they have a really cool enclosed roof deck, although a little tighter squeeze up there. If you are doing a party of two or three and you want a little more room stay downstairs and just head up after you're done with dinner.
Absolutely delicious, great value for your money, I would have spent twice as much for the same level of quality and it would have been justified. Great service, already planning the next two visits because there is so much left on the menu to try. You gotta check it out!
Great food. We ate on the rooftop, which is a lovely space, but were sandwiched in between two large groups. I'd prefer that the music be turned down when the conversation is so lively, because it just makes people talk even louder to be heard. Good, though limited, wine and beer selection. Great sushi, grilled calamari, and fried smelts.
Magnifico! Absolutely wonderful experience. One of the best Asian Latin fusion settings in D.C. The food was phenomenal, the brussels sprouts and Yaki Tako were a perfect match; recommend pairing with Turning Japanese, I Really Think So Cocktail. Both complimented eachother nicely, enhancing the smokey flavors of the grilled octopus and the pot still rum. The entire staff, along with the hand -crafted cocktail menu completed the experience. Will definitely return. All the way from Jersey, with love.
