Beautiful view, good food, good service. Very nice experience.
Thanksgiving weekend trip, good seafood.
Stunning setting for that special meal. A little pricey but you are paying for the view.
The ambiance and view are everything. If you are waiting a nice environment for dinner, this is your place to be. Food wise, there are definitely better restaurants if you go to Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, or Pacific Grove, which are all in walking distance. Overall, service is great, food is decent, and environment is amazing.
Service was excellent and the view was amazing! The food was fantastic and the drinks were the best!
Beautiful views! They have lots of heaters to keep you warm. Highly recommend.
Because of COVID we had to eat outside. Food and service was excellent. I would recommend bringing some blankets.
The turkey was very dry and I was not feeling well after dinner and the next day
Great time, Safety protocols in place .
Great food with friendly service . The outside dining on top of the crashing waves was a memorable experience.
Walking distance from our hotel in downtown Monterey. Going again next year for Thanksgiving .
Scooby , San Mateo
Excellent Thanksgiving “dinner” at 3:30 in the afternoon. But the weather was cooperating, the view was fantastic and the food and service superb. I had the cioppino, which was plentiful, I couldn’t finish it. ( I still regret What I left behind).
We had requested a table near our friends, but when we got there, the request could not be accommodated. A little more attention to a request like that would have helped.
The service was good, not great, the food was ok, not great. Portions were huge.
Luckily we were able to take home a people bag so we could spread the cost over another meal.
From a value standpoint, the meal was expensive, $70 per person, which would have been ok if we could have at least been close enough to chat with our friends. As it was, spending that much didn't meet our expectations and being alone wasn't what we had planned.
Very good service, food was good but a little pricey for the quality.
Excellent food and the service was even better!!
The server could use some seasoning before being utilized as a waiter. Waiting tables at a fine dining establishment requires a certain amount of poise. Regardless of how busy one might be, the service for each table shouldn't suffer. Some shenanigan's with our bill took place, and I suspect that he didn't think I would notice, which did leave a bitter taste in my mouth
Great food and great scenery I would’ve thought it would’ve been colder and windy here but they had a lot of heat lamps and there wasn’t much wind. Our view is right over the water
Toasty warm while dining in a festive lighted cozy environment with ocean wave sounds creating harmony. Generous portions of food. Nachos is the perfect appetizer to start your meal. Wait. I was full after those yummy nachos and only ate a few bites of my fish and chips. Fortunate to live close by and zip in for a quick meal. Friendly staff and attentive to our table.
During the Pandemic that we are in it could sometimes be a challenge to fine a nice place to eat with outdoor dining with a great views of Monterey Bay. Schooners is the perfect spot for a date or family with eating great food while viewing the great scenery of Monterey Bay. Food is excellent and I definitely plan on coming back.
Very nice & service was quick ~ I put a low score on ambiance because of course we’re all eating outside & it was chilly ~ to be expected during Covid
Great food and drinks! Patio dining was amazing! We actually ate there 3 times during our trip.
We were seated outside of the tent, which would have been fine but it was in a bad area.
It was pitch black and the only lighting we had was from the heat lamp.
It took over an hour to get food, and we could not even see it!!
We had to use the light on our phones.
Definitely one of my favorite spots we tried to hit every time we're in town. this dinner was the second reservation I made right after getting confirmation on the hotel room. We went back the following morning for brunch. which was the first time we had a less than perfect meal. Sadly this resulted in my plate going back and us not eating together but it won't stop us from going back
Not sure what happened here. The review does not match the experience. The service was ok, but workers did not seem to like each other or work at the place. We kept hearing disparaging comments with three separate dialogues among different workers there. The food was not good. We all got different things, and they were either too greasy, salty,or not really fresh. The bill was a big one. But we went to The Bench at pebble beach, and Tarpy’s roadhouse. Both were similar price, but much much better experience in food and service. Maybe it was an off night (Saturday)?
Although the temperature was chilly. Under the current circumstances Schooners made the dining experience romantic and the staff was friendly, helpful and gracious. The food was very good. Thank you.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in USA! Location over the water is FAB.. and even in winter we could eat outside at night and feel perfectly warm enough.
I had the crab risotto special - AMAZING! But even better was the strawberry parfait dessert!! Apparently the pastry chef has won awards and I can see why.
We went back for crab benedict breakfast the next day - outstanding yet again!
Make a reservation and GO!
My husband and I went there for our anniversary dinner. The food abs service were great, and the ocean view was gorgeous, we will definitely be back again.
Horrible brunch, food was cold. We had to send back and the table next to us did the same. We have gone to dinner around 5 times before and had good experiences but first time at brunch. Who is the head chef for the food ?!? Food was disgusting, unflavored and mediocre. Didn’t complain to get a cheaper bill but never going back. Come on do a better job! For such a bill step it up ! Don’t recommend horrible brunch
Lovely Covid patio set up right next to the water!! Food is fun but not very creative. Fresh seafood is awesome!
They sat us in the farthest corner at a table wedged right at the inside bar area. Constant patrons coming into the bar and ordering, a bit noisy. Felt like we weren’t even in the restaurant. Server was great, but extremely slow. He apologized many times for it though, which made us feel a little better that it was acknowledged. Food was great as usual!
Terrible food. I ordered calamari and clam chowder. Ther calamari was old tenticles and caulflower; not one piece of regular calamari. Soup was reheated and all potato. We asked for bread; it was microwaved to be warm and hard as a rock.
The chef needs a slap. Ambience nice, social distancing good, waiter fine.
Have been here many times; won;t be back any time soon unfortunately.
We’ve been to Schooner’s several times and have enjoyed it every time! Highly recommended!
Waiters and waitresses were so nice!
Atmosphere is amazing!
Food was so fresh and delicious!
We sat outside for dinner and it was very cozy and warm!
We had a wonderful time!
Wonderful ocean view. High glass sides kept wind to a minimum. With the tent top and heat lamp, was a pleasant temp. Food was exquisite. We tried half the menu, and everything was wonderful. The kids didn’t necessarily appreciate the homemade pasta, but that’s because kids prefer what they’re used to. They did enjoy everything else they ate. The service was spot on. Attentive, accurate, and accommodating. Thank you!
Staff was friendly, food was good and timely. Social Distancing seating VERY GOOD!!! 10/10 for feeling safe
We very much enjoyed the atmosphere, the scenery and the food.
We had a very nice dinner for my birthday.
The view was the best part, hearing the waves crash and watching the otters. The food and service were also great
We had the eggs Benedict with crab. The serving was generous with crab, Hollandaise perfect, and delicious!
Overhyped, overpriced and extremely disappointing. That’s how I’d describe Schooners. The ocean view and sounds of crashing waves were the only bright spots. Our appetizers were good but the rest of the meal was incredibly underwhelming. For as much as the dishes costs you’d expect to be blown away. The service was horrendous. Certain tables got constant attention while ours and another were pretty ignored once seated and served dishes. I’m not going to say why I think this was the case but I wouldn’t be surprised if certain tables are ignored due to how they look.
Excellent service & food. They made it safe & comfortable with the heaters during Covid
