Schooners is serving outside in a big special events tent, but the ambience during dinner was very acceptable, especially because we had a lovely view of the Bay. The halibut special was exceptional. The fish was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by some yummy gnocci and morel mushrooms, finished with a Chardonnay sauce. Excellent service.
Friendly service and great view. Will be taking my mom next time.
Location is amazing, food was good, service was ok. For the amount of money you are paying I wish they had a larger menu. Also our server would disappear for a half hour at a time when we were wanting another bottle of wine. Their breakfast menu is the best, so if you are going to go, go in the morning.
Poorly managed/run, food was subpar. Only thing worth pointing out was our server was great. Food needs to be finessed.
Relaxing experience! Everyone working there was very nice and
This place is wonderful for seating just over the waves of Monterey Bay. Excellent choice for drinks and some appetizers.
We couldn’t recommend it for dinner, as not one dish was really notably good. An example: the portobello mushroom sandwich had more so-called “ potato steak” then portobello mushroom in it. (that’s what the waiter called it. Never heard of such a thing before ) Everyone on staff was clearly working hard. It’s too bad the food isn’t more appealing .
We were satying at the Plaza hotel for our wedding anniversary and made a reservation at Schooners.
Although I requested a good table for our 35th anniverary, they gave us a table in the middle.
I wasn't happy, so we moved to a bench table facing the sea which was vey nice.
We ordered Seafood trio sald, mussels and short rib rigatoni.
Seafood trio salad was very fresh and good , mussels were cooked so perfectly but the sauce wasn't as good as French moule mariniere.
For the rigatoni, the short ribs were delicious but the pasta and meat were kind of sererate, meat sauce was not soaked well to pasta.
Our waiter was very attnetive and good although it was a busy night.
He offered us complementary dessert for our anniversary, and we chose tiramasu which was very good.
We enjoyed the evening very much in romantic setting.
Want to dine over the Monterey Bay in a cozy environment, this is the place. Fair food at slightly high price but that's not why you would come here. Service from valet to hostess to server et al all very good if not excellent. Glad to see that they are watching the disinfecting / cleaning aspects of dining.
Great location, good service, large portions of average food.
Fun place to have lunch, good service, and great view!
Great views, tables nicely spaced apart, both food and service were great. We enjoyed the Calamari, Fish & Chips and the Skillet Nachos with Shrimp. Very generous portions!
Loved the view at sunset and the wait staff couldn't have been nicer. The quality of the food was good for the most part. We ordered a Caesar salad and weren't impressed (bland). The cioppino was a little salty for my taste but otherwise very good. By far their pasta dishes were the best and most flavorful.
Nice outdoor dining spot. Cocktails and wine very pricey though.
I ended up sitting in the "splash zone" and got splashed lol. It was entertaining to me since my food had not arrived yet. A wave knocked against the pier and flew into the glass barrier and then up and over onto me and my table. It wasn't a lot of water, or I'm sure it would have been more inconvenient than entertaining. But I think it could have ruined my food if I'd have had it. No one wants to season their fries with sea salt still in the sea water! So I would recommend asking which table to avoid when you get there. It was a 2-top at the corner where the ocean view bench seating starts.
However, the food was awesome! The service was great. There was a beautiful view. I'll definitely be going again next time I visit Monterey. Even if they seat me in the splash zone again. I just moved my plate a little to the left so it didn't sit where the water previously landed. Highly recommended!
Very expensive for what we received. Service was good. The view of the Bay was very nice.
Love everything about this place even in a tent outside!!!
Our waiter was amazing! The hostess was super friendly and nice. Can't wait to go back.
Great place to have dinner and to celebrate any special day
There's a reason Schooners took a top prize in the Best of issue.
We had a magical sunset dinner there on a Tuesday night and my only complaint was they gave my main to someone else and I had to wait 10-15 minutes for mine.
Oh well another glass of wine in this beautiful setting was hardly a problem.
Where do I start - this was an AMAZING lunch dining experience. Beautiful views and delicious dishes. Staff was friendly and attentive. Right down the street on Canary Row - thought it might be a bit touristy but it was off the beaten path enough that I felt transported into being a part of the Big Little Lies world. Thank you!
We enjoyed every minute of it, with delicious food and great drinks selections.
Good clam chowder. We had the swordfish BLT, which was excellent. And the Opa fish with crab, which was good but a little overdone. Homemade tiramisu was delicious. Service was the right amount of attentiveness, tables spaced well, we felt comfortable and safe eating on the nicely lit patio overlooking the bay. Lovely views!
Dinner and service was good. However they let in a very large party of drunk people who were very loud, obnoxious and rude.
This dinner was a reservation. When we showed up, the hostess said let me check availability. Wow. Service was horrible. Our beverages took forever to arrive. The presentation for the beverages was awful. Our waitress didn't listen to us repeatedly. The other patrons were rude. The noise level was way to high. We asked for water with lemons. We got the water in cheesy small glasses without ice. Delivered by the bus boy. No straws. Later ice was provided separately and the lemons as well. Not sure where this place gets such a good review. My fiancé had to raise a big commotion to get better service, a heater more oriented in our direction. Etc. This experience was one the lousiest I have ever had. I don't know what else to say.
Best view and great service! Calamari appetizer done perfectly. Gorgeous October evening, super relaxing celebrating our anniversary. Looking forward to the next visit!
Located in the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa, and with a beautiful waterfront (you can hear the waves crashing) outdoor patio overlooking Monterey Bay, and with a full moon rising over the bay was the setting for a spectacular evening in Monterey. However we were not overly impressed with the food, and the service was slow, trying, but professional and courteous. They offered a very limited menu. Started with heirloom tomato and burrata salad, and a bowl of creamy clam chowder to start our dinner. My wife had the seafood salad, with a generous portion on crab and shrimp (she skipped the Ahi portion). I had the King Salmon special with veggies, and mashed; disappointed that it was a smallish portion that was overcooked to my liking unfortunately. Paired with a Folktale Rose for my wife and a wonderful Siduri Pinot for the salmon. Finished with a double espresso, chocolate cake, and a grappa. The food could have been better, but the ambience was nice except for the family next to us with 5 kids whining later on a Friday evening. That's the reason for the energetic rating for the noise level. Both of us came away with the feeling that all the build up on social media was not delivered in the quality of the food, and we did not consider this a good value. Go for the view and ambience.
I love schooners and have dined many times. This last visit was my usual experience - things were very slow, food was missing items and didn’t feel terribly fresh. The ambiance of seeing water the water is incredible but half of the dinner we had no light and then the latter half the lights turned on were harsh plus a heat lamp right against one of our guests backs that was like a tanning bed. I so appreciate that it’s a challenging time right now for restaurants which is why I try to go out and support whenever I’m able, (especially Schooners!) but for an expensive dinner it’s sad when it’s not the usual wonderful experience.
Great place to go for that one of a kind experience
Beautiful place on the ocean!! Excellent service, food and ambience!!
Schooners does a great job. Quality, well cared for ingredients and genuine hospitality.
All the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent.
Awful food, mediocre service and too expensive for what we had. Sad, we were looking forward to this. Never again, here
Went during pandemic, so things were a bit different. Loved eating outside, scenery was outstanding - all was outside with an ocean view. I was a bit disconcerted by the menu situation. I loved the idea of scanning the code on the table for the menu, however, I'd looked the menu up online and this was a pared-down version. I specifically wanted more for a non-fish and seafood diner on her birthday. They did have a steak, which was absolutely divine, but that's it. I had to ask for a plain green salad since there wasn't any without fish. And it was good, but the menu needs to take diner's food choices into account more. Drinks were excellent, and not watered down, but here I also had to order off menu.
Food was gross.
great food, service, atmosphere, friendly helpful staff
It was a wonderful setting for our Anniversary and Baby-moon! I couldn’t have dreamed a better spot. The service was wonderful and the food was phenomenal!!
We drove all the way to Monterey bay Seaside for 5 hours to celebrate my morher in laws 60th birthday and we stayed at Embassy Suites Hilton. On my Hilton App they show you places to eat and that when I came across Schooners. I fell in love with the photos as I like romantic views. We had dinner here and loved everything that we order. Such a wonderful place and Nice staff. A must place to visit when you're in Monterey.
Great food and atmosphere next to the bay. The service was a bit slow. We got our drinks after our salads arrived.
Food was not worth the price paid for at all. Service was amazing, overall would not come back although the view was by far the best part of dining there.
