It was 45 degrees outside and had rained most of the day. We asked to sit outside due to COVID. The staff looked at us with a tad bit of confusion as to why we’d want to, then agreed. They ended up setting us up a beautiful table in front of a fire wall. It was private, romantic and we felt a million miles from Chicago.
The food was great too. Loved the chicken curry-much more chicken than most other restaurants. My husband enjoyed the brisket pho.
I hope this place makes it. Lovely people.
Absolutely wonderful dinner experience. The patio is well designed.Sat near one of the fireplace and under the willow tree, a perfect setting for a very pleasant romantic night. Food was outstanding to say the least. Will come back for sure soon.
Wonderful culinary experience on a beautiful patio. What a gem! The lychee martini, shrimp spring rolls, grilled salmon, and wide noodles were all spot on and delicious. Highly recommend
Food was awesome. Service impeccable. The noise level was tough, but we will be back!!
Always enjoy Pasteur.
Appetizers are the best. Yummy dumplings & super spring rolls!
However our Pho soup was nearly cold and the duck curry had big chunks of grisly duck. A bit disappointed!
Luis made our experience even better. The food was outstanding and the patio is absolutely lovely. Just devastated that the weather is getting cold and we cant enjoy the patio much longer.
delightful with a lovely back patio with heating. highly recommended
The ambiance of the “heated” outdoor patio, coupled with the quality of the food and service make Pasteur a “must go” venue especially during these difficult times.
I love this restaurant. The garden is lovely but I also plan to return in the winter. It is large enough to separate the tables and there are ceiling fans to offer greater safety.
We have introduced Pasteur to friends and family and they all love it. Last time I was there I ran into a friend who said she has been going twice a week to Pasteur. This is a hidden treasure with easy parking on the street.
Try the dumpling appetizer. The Saigon crepe is really good. The eggplant is delicious.
Very nice outdoor patio, with great ambience and widely spaced tables. Food was excellent as always. Restaurant was woefully understaffed, there was only one waiter servicing the entire patio, and he was the bartender also. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees, and the first app showed up 30 minutes later, with each dish showing up one at a time over the next 60 minutes.
The waiter apologized for the slow kitchen. It seemed on-site dining was competing with take-out & delivery - and losing. If it wasn't for the patio ambience we would have paid and left before the last entree was delivered.
Food was excellent, along with ambience. I’m looking forward to dining on the outdoor patio. The day we went it was raining so ate inside. Was the first time eating inside and felt safe with COVID. The restaurant is beautiful and very relaxing. I have already told many people they gotta go try!
Outstanding on every level. A unique cuisine combining the Asian and French cultures that make Vietnamese food interesting and delicious.
We had a great dinner -- food's very good, though menu is limited with COVID. Our poor server was the only person working, so he had to cover all the tables plus take over bartending duties. To his credit, he didn't seem at all upset.
Great service, food was delicious, outside patio ambience was beautiful and phantasmagorical.
The ambiiance was very good the server Colon that we had never acknowledged my wife's birthday he could have been a lot better.
In addition to their gorgeous food, Pasteur has redone their patio for physical distancing. And it’s lovely.
Staff were all mask perfect and so very hospitable. Wonderful
Beautiful space. The food was fantastic. The patio was truly charming. Outstanding experience all around. The mango papaya salad was a stand out
Patio was really nice. Delicious food at reasonable prices. Love this place.
They have made GREAT changes since we last visited a couple of years ago. Everything was wonderful. The food was fantastic. I had the clay pot ginger chicken. Service was friendly and attentive. Food and drink wait time was very minimal. The outside patio is wonderful.
Great food and outdoor eating area make this a great place. But the great staff makes Pasteur special.
Simply Pasteur has a large beautiful garden with more than socially distanced tables. Everything about the place is great, they have great interesting food, good atmosphere and reasonable prices. I have been coming to Pasteur for many years and the food each time is delicious, fresh and with beautifully melded flavors. Each time I find something new on the menu and this time it was the Japanese eggplant. Perfectly cooked, with a sauce that was just the right amount of sweet and tang. We also enjoyed the Saigon crepe which was light and full of fresh herbs and veggies. Also highly recommend are the shrimp spring rolls, shrimp papaya salad and the beef pho. I suggest ordering two shrimp papaya salads, one to eat there and one to take home as its just as good the next day!
Simply Pasteur is family owned and run. In one form or another it has been part of the Chicago community for more than 30 years. Their hospitality is genuine and the food is really good.
Beautiful outside patio. Great food & service, too!
I love Simply Pasteur! The outdoor patio is very cute and socially-distanced very well. The seafood wraps and pho were outstanding! Excellent drink selection as well. I can’t wait to go back and try all of the other dishes. Everyone must try this restaurant! The owners are very kind and were there as well. Amazing food, great ambiance, and an excellent experience!
The outdoor patio dining is just fabulous and you feel so enchanted by the ambience. Wonderful service and cuisine just made it an enjoyable dining experience.
Fantastic great service food and wait staff
Quiet courtyard dining, nice evening ambiance, simple decor / furniture, food reasonably priced and good, excellent friendly service.
Great Vietnamese cuisine. Great flavors. Good portion size. Tasty cocktails. Beautiful indoor dining and outdoor patio.
One of our favorite gardens in the city and the food is fresh and lovely!!
Service was horrible. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was dropped at our table with the bottle opener. We were obviously expected to open our own bottle of wine. Our waiter actually left and went home (maybe quit?) in the middle of our dinner. The whole meal was so bad that it actually became comical. Many, many patrons around us simply got up and left after waiting for service for an extended period of time. We probably should have done the same. I wish I could say that the food was worth the poor service, but it wasn't.
Had reservations for V Day evening. Took 10 min to be greeted by host and then he responded “I guess you can sit here”. Took another 15 min for water to arrive. And 15 min after that, we still weren’t visited by any server we left and noticed another table left as well. For a nicer restaurant, this was very disappointing. Luckily Broadway Cellars had a table and our evening was salvaged.
Service was extremely slow and amateurish. Food wasn’t quite as good as previously but acceptable.
Not sure how to describe how awful the service was tonight. I was just truly flabbergasted at how you could screw up that bad. Do not go here because it was truly that bad of an experience. It wasn’t the food but the truly awful way this place is apparently run at this point in time. Will not be going back.
Terrible service, long wait, and mediocre food. Will not come back.
It was a horrible night. Several tables left, it took 30 min
This was one of the worst service experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. The food was mediocre. I will not return to Pasteur.
Uneven, shakey table at first
Too few and unresponsive wait staff
Waited 45 minutes for appetizers
Another 30 for entrees
Food served lukewarm-but tasty
Had to track down waiter for check and take payment to cashier ourselves.
We haven't been to Pasteur in a few years. It is still really good. Fortunately, it has returned to it's roots of being inexpensive with great food.
So, the food is ok, inremarkable but no complaints. The service is... Nonexistant. No one came to take our order, no one refilled our water, no one checked if we needed something. To cap the night, we paid with credit cards and they brought no pens...
What once was a very good spot, it's sad to say that Pasteur has reached the end. We've been patronizing this spot in our neighborhood back to it's Argyle Street days and it's very sad to see it deteriorate to this point. Service was from the bizarro world - a single person who acted as hostess, waiter and bus. We ordered a bottle of wine and 15 minutes later were told that they were out of stock. So we reorder wine and order our food at the same time. 15 minutes later, a busboy appears with 2 wine glasses, but puts our bottle on the empty table across from us and disappears. 30 minutes in, and we still don't have drinks. Suddenly one of our entrees appears in the middle of the table. When we ask about the appetizers, we are told that all the food comes out at once! Well we had one entree in front of us and were staring at our unopened bottle of wine sitting on the table across from us. 5 minutes later our appetizers appear and the wine gets opened (35 minutes after sitting down in a restaurant on a Saturday night with only 6 other diners occupying 3 tables). We eat the appetizers, but the second entree is now missing in action. 15 minutes later the 2nd entree appears. It is evident that the quality of the ingredients has sunk a notch, though the food was still good, but not like the old Pasteur. It's tough watching Pasteur end this way.
Restaurant was closed. There was no note in the door to explain they had a broken pipe leak.
