Slate Bistro & Craft Bar
We didn’t actually get to dine here. They closed their doors unexpectedly without notifying me or calling to cancel our reservation. We only found a note on the door when we arrived for dinner. Such a disappointment because we were really looking forward to our dinner date here!
We visited the restaurant to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious and creative. Clearly, Abdu is passionate about the menu he has put together. We all left completely satisfied.
Great drinks and creative food choices at this very nice bistro in Camarillo. Well worth a return visit.
I really enjoyed my birthday dinner at Slate Bistro and Craft Bar. The host welcomed us, honored our reservation request with a comfortable booth, sat us promptly, and offered us an array of delicious food and beverage choices. Our server Mack was friendly, yet professional, and tried to meet our every need. Our dinners were delicious, but I was a little disappointed when the restaurant had no more of the dessert I requested--lemon sorbet. However, we chose another, and I'll have to return for the lemon sorbet. I think Slate is a great addition to the Camarillo dining scene, and we'll return.
We went for Valentine’s Day, there was a fixed menu. My husband did not like the fact that there was a fixed menu. The starters were okay...cheese plate was lacking, lobster bisque was cold. Entree was pretty good. Salmon was great and fried artichoke was delicious. Dessert was terrible. Is was a flavorless jello consistency thing. They could have picked something way better for a fixed menu. Either way, it wasn’t worth $65 per person.
Overpriced price fix menu
Wrong appetizer came out
Lobster bisque room temp
Would not go again until someone else was paying 😬
The food was phenomenal and I owe a really big thanks to Chef Abdu for coming and talking to my table and explaining the specials for my family. In addition to that our server Mac was fantastic and made kept the whole table entertained as well as provided timely service. I haven't had a meal that good in a long time and everything was cooked perfectly. Couldn't have asked for a better birthday!
Also looking forward to coming back and sitting at the bar so I can talk to the bartender that made all our wonderful drinks!
Service was good. We enjoyed the beet pomegranate beverage and ravioli. The seafood pasta was not as described (lobster saffron sauce was more of a marinara) and was disappointing. The restaurant was cold with the patio door open. We asked twice for it to be closed, but it kept getting propped open.
Excellent food and dining experience. Quiet midweek, great for catching up with friends and having a conversation. Highly recommend the spicy buffalo cauliflower!
Great service and good food. First time there and emit!
We didn’t realize when we planned to go to Slate for brunch that it was only buffet. The buffet was comparable to something you’d get at a Hilton Express free breakfast buffet. Stale muffins, dry scrambled eggs with old ham bits, a (seemingly) frozen burrito, and chicken tenders with very soggy waffles. Oh, and soggy biscuits with a kind of ok gravy. We will NEVER go back there for brunch!!! Love their lunches and dinners but honestly they should not open on Sunday if this is the best they can offer.
This was the first time back to Slate since the opening. I was not impressed back then. I was very optimistic returning, but was very pleasantly surprised. The drinks were delicious. The peppercorn New York steak was phenomenal! I’m glad we gave it a second chance. I’m sorry we didn’t do it sooner!
Excellent service, delicious food! A unique take on some of the usual dishes.
We used to come here frequently when it was SAFIRE and absolutely loved it; from the servers to the bartenders to service and food quality. We heard this newcomer SLATE was good and we figured we would give it a go. Well, we will not be back. First, made a reservation prior and when we show up it seemed like pandemonium between the Hostess and Managers. Running around like and I’m not kidding, like out of control, then the hostess ran around in a frenzy asking all who were waiting in the front wait area for our first names, absolutely bizarre. Anyhow, finally seated, nice but extremely bright in restaurant for an evening/night service. Took a bit for server but came took drink order but even she seemed overwhelmed. Asked for 3 appetizers and they were out. Ordered tuna appetizer good, very small portion but decent. Then dinner, didn’t have GF pizza dough and another menu item so ordered shrimp and scallops and my husband a regular pepperoni pizza with French onion soup. His soup was good, pizza not cooked through very doughy. My dinner excellent taste and really enjoyed. Ordered lava cake dessert very good. Corkage was also very reasonable $18. Overall, it was at best “OK” there would have to be nothing open for dinner for me to return. Might try bar and lunch here but dinner NO! They still need to work out the kinks, find better hostesses, more waitresses/waiters, huge bussing staff though- think I had a different person trying to pick up each of our dishes every time.
We had a great dining experience sitting in the bar for dinner. Food was great as was the service even though they were quite busy on a Saturday night. Even had the delightful opportunity of chatting with Vincent, the owner. Obviously, we will return again soon.
The food here was outstanding! Our Lemon artichoke ravioli, halibut stir fry and chicken piccata were some of the best we’ve had around the country and the world!
We really enjoyed brunch at SLATE. The food was fantastic and different enough from the usual breakfast standards without being too risky. I would definitely recommend this spot for brunch and will plan on letting friends know about this hidden gem! Also - they take reservations; a huge plus in this area as most breakfast/brunch places will not take a reservation.
As in many of today's restaurants, it is too noisy to talk easily. Not good for ears or conversation. I don't know how to rate the noise the way it is set up. The waiter was great and the food was very good. Easy parking.
We came on a Saturday date night and it didn’t disappoint. We arrived a little early and not a problem. We were seated right away- they didn’t even balk with my BF asked to move (he is particular in that way). Our wait staff were attentive, the started Mac n cheese sooo good. I enjoyed my Chardonnay Chicken and he the pork chop. Left satisfied and happy. Only wish is for a little more expansive craft beer selection- like one good dark beer. Institution down the street makes a terrific maple brown- Restraint. Looking for another evening here.
What a wonderful surprise to find an excellent restaurant in a strip mall. Outstanding dishes and excellent service. Don't miss the cauliflower appetizer. You won't find anything like it elsewhere!
Something new this year - a Christmas Brunch and Santa was there too! A good variety of options to choose from but the hot cocoa was pre-made and in a very large dispenser. By the time I went to get a cup, it was at room temperature. Otherwise, was very nice and look forward to next year's.
Outstanding food, service, and atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly making our dining experience enjoyable and memorable. The food is out of this world, everything we ordered was prepared, and presented, perfectly.
Highly recommended for an enjoyable night out.
GREAT JOB SLATE BISTRO!!!!
Everything was perfect from Sabrina meeting us at the door to Christina providing our table service. The smoked whisky cocktail was superb!
Enjoyed Sunday brunch with four friends for my first visit ever. On my arrival, I was greeted by Trent who acknowledged my reservation and ushered me to a reserved booth. Since our five-some hadn't been together for a while, I anticipated some energetic exchanges of things passed since our last meetings. Although the accommodations and atmosphere were quite pleasing, the sound level (which was not particularly inordinate) would detract and interfere with my group's interactions. We five are all in our "senior years" and some of us suffer from mild to severe hearing impediments. At my request, Trent led us to an outdoor venue where he had rearranged tables to accommodate the five of us. The result was superb. The weather was "California Ideal" and Tatianna delightfully satisfied our every need. Among the several items ordered, we had Eggs Benedict Florentine, Chicken-Fried-Chicken, and BBQ Tri-Tip Sandwich while I enjoyed their scrumptious Meat Lovers Scramble. Except for the Tri-Tip being a bit "chewy", each of us was quite pleased with the entire experience. I certainly anticipate a return engagement.
Four of us all enjoyed our meals. Service was very attentive. Sorry there were not more patrons on a Saturday night.
This place has definitely gotten better since their soft open. Love the decor and the server was very nice and helpful in the menu selection. As we were sharing our plates the kitchen was nice enough to split our portions for us.
Outdoor seating was great. Chef was able to accommodate special dietary preparation requests!
Delicious food and drink! Service was slow (took probably 15 minutes to get our drinks), even though it wasn’t crowded. Would go back because there are more menu items I want to try.
PSA happy hour is only available on the patio or bar area (wish there was a way when you book reservation to know/specify that)
And PSA #2 they offer 10% military discount.
This restaurant truly raises the.bar for food, cocktails and service. Exceptional food, beautiful decor, excellent service and truly yummy cocktails.
Very nice. Couple of minor misses on the food, but no big deal.
Food was excellent and service was OK.
We met a friend for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the ambience, the attentive and friendly service and the food! This was our first visit. The salmon was recommended and it was delicious. My husband had the Cajun shrimp salad special and loved it. We shared the chocolate molten cake with cinnamon ginger ice cream. The lunch was fantastic and we will definitely be back!
Food excellent Very limited wine list.
No prices on menu for wine by the bottle.
Stark decor. Shows signs of being new.
Missing a few details Like bread, salt and pepper.
Mac and cheese was outstanding.
Pork chop very good. Party of 8 all very happy with the food
The service is excellent. The food was A+ delicious however the portions are very small. We had to pay extra for bread. The ribs are$39 and we were still hungry. They do not offer you bread so if you want bread you have to pay for it separately. They had live music and that was really terrific. It was a nice restaurant but you should eat before you go.
Food was outstanding. The variety of cocktails and beer were excellent.
We took some of our sales representatives from out of time. There was something for everyone. We started with appetizers. I was actually full after the appetizers. A couple guys order steaks and raved about them. We will be back.
Good food and service. But we sat outside and a family was sitting in the outside lounge area with kids that were very loud. Surprised us that for this type of restaurant (expensive and really a date place) would let the disruption happen. Very easy to ask parents to please move small kids away. The family was not eating, just having drinks.
Not only would I recommend it, I'm coming back with other friends in 2 weeks. I just wish it' weren't so noisy!
We were seated next a very noisy obnoxious swear word slinging “gentlemen”. My husband pointed out to the staff that this was not acceptable to us. Our waiter and the owner Me Dale Peters quickly moved us to quiet private and we had a wonderful breakfast. We look forward to our next visit.
Everything was great. The service, the food the ambience. Our server was very attentive. We will definitely dine at Slate again.
