The osso bucco and the pasta that came with it was amazing! Quiet enough for a good date night.
Great service. Friendly waitstaff. Delicious dinner. We are so lucky to have Sontuosa in BM!
I’d say fantastic “as usual,” except that nothing about Sontuosa is “usual.” While the menu regularly includes some of their specialties, there are always some new surprises as well. This week there was escargots and a special delight — a marrow bone appetizer. My main dish was a lasagna. Not the stringy cheesy dish, but a real European style — three layers of light pasta with a Bolognese Ragù in between and just a hint of cheese. My husband’s appetizer was scallops with bacon. His main dish was a pork cutlet, pounded thin and breaded. Even the sides are special. You could really come here every week and never get tired of it.
Excellent food and service. Not one complaint! Had a great meal.
What a treasure, tucked away on Bryn Mawr Ave., but walking distance to the Bryn Mawr theatre!
Ernesto greeted me warmly, as I waited for my friend to arrive. Our server, Kaitlin, was very attentive, friendly, but not invasive. For appetizer, we split the special flatbread, zucchini w/truffle drizzle-outstanding. I enjoyed the grilled calamari, done perfectly and my friend loved her potato soup, the special of the day. We each had a different salad, she, the beet salad and I, the arugula/lemon ....can't wait to try more at this lovely trattoria.
The food is delicious but next time I would definitely request a table for 4. The table for 2 is tiny and we felt squeezed in.
Cute place with interesting menu. Appys came out luke warm. Entrees were good not great. Service was pleasant but slow. BYOB a plus, $5 corkerage fee. Good parking.
Unique menu and fresh food. We'll be back for sure!
Love this byo! Pizza with bone marrow and jalapeño out of sight as was my pork chop!
Food was excellent and service outstanding. We would go back and would be interested in trying their homemade pizza the next time.
It was an odd experience. We went because of its reputation for Italian food. However, due to the anniversary of Mexico's Independence the menu was changed to a Prix Fixe Mexican.
No heads up or notice as we entered, we discovered this change after we sat down at the table.
We stayed, food was OK, but not what we were expecting. Note, we will go back to check out the main menu but we will call in advance and make sure no other "anniversary" is being celebrated.
Please accept my apologies in regards to not notifying you of the Special menu that should have been presented as additional specials to our regular menu. I'll be sure to address this with our staff for our next event and also, post it on Open Table. We hope you visit us again to enjoy a menu of flavors from Italy, France, America, Mexico and Lebanon!
Simply a great place.
Thank you so much for your support and your rating!
I love this spot. The staff are sweet and the food is a knockout.
As always, the owners of Sontuosa greeted us with open arms. It was the perfect pre Fall evening to dine al Fresco.. The Osso bucco was an outstanding choice. It was exquisitely seasoned.
absolutely outstanding little gem- so happy to have found this spot!
1st time - will definitely not be the last time. The food (appetizers through desert) was uniformly good - with a special mention for the 'breakfast for dinner' (egg & bacon) pizza.
The atmosphere was quiet (but we ate early so your mileage may differ) and definitely conducive to a 'date-night' dinner or good conversation.
The value was good - not cheap but worth the price. This is a BYOB so that helps keep the overall cost down, but - that said, the prices were comparable to many fine center city BYO's.
A great experience from the moment we walked in until we walked out everything was wonderful. The food was great the service was great Mary and Ernesto were so welcoming.. the food was delicious, serpas was terrific, what more can I say! I think you should go and enjoy this jamavar restaurant in Bryn Mawr.
Delicious food Great to eat outside. Excellent staff
It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside on the wide sidewalk. Most tables were empty when we came just before 7 but soon all outside tables filled up. The owners, Ernesto and Mary, were very welcoming and fun to talk to. Ernesto is a great chef and really knows how to get fantastic flavors into the food. Had his Osso Buco once before and was very impressed. This time time I tried the Aubergine which was also excellent and was a joy to eat with the Rose I had brought along. I had the gazpacho as an appetizer and my wife had the beet salad and a seafood melee; all were very good and tasty. Can't wait for our next visit!
Ernesto spent time with us discussing wine and food choices. Osso Bucco was excellent as was the Boullabaise and grilled calamari salad. We had a lovely evening and enjoyed Ernesto's company!
Ernesto Guzman has ruined me for other restaurants. We recently spent two weeks near Asbury Park, which is experiencing a restaurant revival with many names familiar to Philadelphians. All I could think about was hitting Sontuosa when we got home. The dishes here are always a perfect blend of flavors combined in a beautiful presentation. I’m never disappointed. Now they’ve added free mussels and live music on Wednesdays! What’s not to love? Great for a date night, a relaxed dinner with friends or a post-movie pizza.
We arrived about 5:30, and the place was empty, with one couple dining outside. By the time we left around 6:30, the restaurant was filling up. The fish was perfect, as were the vegetables, dessert and coffee. The space is lovely.
Thin crust pizza was not crispy and dripping with fat
Really average food with really high price for value coupled with terrible service. That’s a pretty bad combination. We look forward to trying the restaurant that moves in when they go out of business.
Wonderful experience, start to finish. Service and food were both fantastic. Great atmosphere and will definitely be back... often.
We dine at Sontuosa at least once or twice a week, it's that good. This evening we dined outside, which is delightful any night the weather cooperates. The owners, Ernesto and Mary, are always welcoming, kind and attentive. The fish special of the day was bronzino, very fresh and perfectly cooked and served on a bed of parsnip puree and fresh green beans. The sweet pete salad is always delicious and a generous portion of pine nuts and raisins. The pizza, an original with added mushrooms and carmelized onions was thin crispy crust and perfect amount of toppings. The server, was attentive and friendly. The food is as delicious on a Monday night as it is on a Saturday night, not always the case in some places.
Earnesto is a great host!! The food was scrumptious and the server, Caitlin, was sweet and thoughtful. Heading back soon!
This was our first visit to Sontuosa BYOB, but it certainly won't be our last. This place is a little treasure in Bryn Mawr. I had the seafood stew special; the fish and shellfish were perfectly cooked, and the broth was delicious. My husband's eggplant was also excellent, and we really enjoyed the "crisp" salad we shared. Our server was perhaps a little TOO attentive, but other than that, the experience was perfect.
The food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful The overall service was impeccable.
The food was outstanding. Muscles in spicy Red were delicious as well as the Arugula salad and caesar. The Bronzino special was so crispy and perfect and the gnocchi melted in your mouth! To full for dessert but we highly recommend !
Terri and Pete
Ate a delicious meal outside with wine we brought. Felt like we were in Europe.
First time here, but definitely will be back
Food was sensational. Loved the thin pizza !
Service was very good with items coming out at the right pace
Cannot wait to come back
The food is always good, very much like reliable home cooking, and the ambiance is welcoming. We're regular customers!
A surprise in downtown Bryn Mawr. Would definitely go again and have recommended to others.
Overall we were disappointed. The restaurant is a nice venue but our appetizer was cold and my pizza was lukewarm. When I asked to have it heated, it came back the same temp. The 2 coffees ordered were served lukewarm and when asked to heat them up, they came back at the same temp.
We have had two outstanding meals here, one inside and one outside on the patio. The food is excellent and the service very personable. A great value also as a BYOB. We will be back!
Delightful, intimate neighborhood Mediterranean with some unusual choices ('Aubergine', a pasta-free, layering of eggplant and ground lamb with a light tomato sauce, hints of cinnamon, pesto etc. is scrumptious as is the flour-less but not heavy chocolate cake). Many excellent gluten-free choices, even the Caesar salad.
Our second visit - and again, a wonderful dining experience. I love it that the owners are so present & attentive, checking on us periodically. The wait staff are courteous & attentive without hovering. My only complaint would be the $5 charge per bottle corkage fee.
Great little gem. We split a salad and ordered two of the pizzas, everything was yummy. Will definitely go back.
Our first experience at Sontuosa was very rewarding. We were greeted warmly and were seated at a nice table in the back. Our server, Violeta, was pleasant and attentive. The owner was also very attentive and kind. They were ably supported by rest of the staff, most notably, Caitlin.
We had the special appetizer, the house made pork tamale, which was hardy and comforting. The soup of the day, Tortilla Tomatillo, was delicately Spicy and savory.
Our entrees were the Ossa Buco and the Chicken Picatta. The Ossa was an excellent pork shank tender and hardy on a bed of risotto. The Chicken was exquisitely marinated and cooked to perfection.
We finished with their excellent coffee and shared two desserts- Apple pie a la mode and a Rich chocolate brownie a la mode. Both were a delicious warm contrast to the rich vanilla ice cream.
We were pleasantly satiated and went home feeling good about our new find.
Chris, we are blown away at your in-depth review and it does our hearts so good that you and your wife connected with what we strive to deliver to our guests! Thank you for taking the time to review us and we look forward to seeing you both again!
