St. Anselm - DC
Unique and intriguing decor. Knowledgeable and pleasant staff. Food was very good, but admittedly high expectations were not met. Splurged for the pricey 48oz axe handle ribeye. It was nicely seasoned and cooked a beautiful med-rare. Sadly, the big steak barely fed 2 people as it was full of fat and gristle. Surprising that the staff didn’t realize there was a problem when slicing the steak after presentation. Cauliflower side had a nice tahini preparation but I would skip the too-smoky grilled broccoli next time. Grilled bacon and deviled eggs were a nice appetizer combo.
Amazing experience and amazing food
We had an amazing meal for my husbands birthday! Such a great place. A little pricey, but worth EVERY PENNY! Go here!
I enjoyed St. Anslem but perhaps my expectations were too high. The buttermilk biscuits definitely met the expectations but everything that followed fell short. I enjoyed the sides of mushrooms and broccoli, but was extremely meh on the salmon collar and the king crab.
My fiancé and I have been several times- It’s always been amazing with the exception of our last visit- I can’t remember our server’s name, but I wasn’t feeling her at all-she really missed the mark for me-which is Bizarre- normally the Service is just as amazing as the food- of course we will continue to come- but I will request a different server if we get her again
Amazing. Great food. Excellent service
We went there for my husband's birthday dinner. We could not have been more impressed with the staff, the food, they rum punch bowl, ambiance, everything! He said it was the best birthday meal ever! And I agree. We will be back.
We all loved the food and service. The steak was cooked to perfection, and I especially loved the biscuits, cucumber salad, the kale and cauliflower side dishes.
Went to St. Anselm for our 20th anniversary. The food was tasty. The Service was great. Everyone must get the biscuits and pimento cheese. Overall, this was a splurge for us and not something we could do regularly. (Apps, entree & sides, dessert, cocktails, wine, etc!) But totally worth it.
It was our first experience at St Anselm and we didn’t know you what to expect. We were very pleased by the outstanding service rendered by all and the wonderful food we were served. The biscuits are to die for and the pork porterhouse was the most tender and succulent piece of pork I’ve ever tasted. The portions are very generous and our every request was accommodated. The whole evening was a delightful and memorable experience. We are definitely looking forward to returning to try some of there other offerings.
We took out of town guests and they loved it. Vanessa, the sommelier was fabulous. The pork chop was delicious. Try the salmon collar-it is wonderful. Don't miss the ice cream cake for dessert. The atmosphere was both energetic but relaxing. A very successful evening.
We got sat in the PDR and I cannot tell you how perfect it was. Faryn was attentive and warm. I really appreciate her asking about my steak.
From start to finish, the staff at St. Anselm made our recent anniversary dinner a dream. Everything from the table, warm wishes, and the delicious food and drink (drinks!) was perfect. We’ll definitely be back, and this is a must-see if you’re dining near Union Market.
This restaurant has quickly turned into our favorite restaurant. I love everything about this place.
Nice but a bit pricey. Side salad was $14. Good buzz
I travel somewhere every week - it is not often that I find an experience like St. Anselm. The food is spectacular, the environment the perfect fusion of the spirit of your most welcoming and playful neighborhood pub and the service/food of the finest of dining. Everything worked here but service was the highlight. Is this the best restaurant in America for our modern world today? There is real good argument that it might be.
We had a fantastic meal at St. Anselm. The service and food were exceptional. We would definitely recommend to anyone. The menu did have a lot of meat on it, so maybe not the best for vegetarians...
Everything was good but the noise level was high. It was hard to hear your partner conversation.
Great food and service.
Our waiter had great recommendations and was very attentive.
My wife and I were a bit apprehensive because it is in an industrial part of Washington, but the second we stepped in we loved the atmosphere the service and the food. I can’t wait to come back every time I visit Washington.
Great service the entire meal. Such good food! Oysters, King crab leg, rib eye, NY strip, pan mashed potatoes, mushrooms...all YUM!
Overall - the setting was inviting, but it was too loud. You order one item per plate, which no one told us when we sat down. So, when you order the steak, all you get is a steak. No sides. You order those separately. It was all too much for us. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium, it was rare. My husband's steak had an uncomplimentary pepper-onion topping that was sour. We ordered the cream spinach as a shared side, which was good, but not so good I would go back. We were still hungry afterwards, or needed something else to wash down this meat-heavy meal, so we ordered the side of biscuits, which was served without butter. We asked for butter, and it came, but it too was heavy. All and all - it was heavy, tasteless American food. They did not have Pinot Grigio by the glass- instead they had wine on tap. I would not recommend this place. Don't believe the hype.
St. Anselm is our neighborhood well kept secret restaurant.
We’ll be back!
The food is always excellent. The server was meh.
This is a must go hot spot, sad to see all the food warehouse district go but this place is great. A DC steakhouse that is casual and doesn’t focus on spending money as most steakhouses due, in fact it encourages splitting which we did. The wedge was light and flavorful with crisp greens, the porterhouse was perfect for two, the mashed potatoes had a delicious crisp skin on the outside, the cauliflower was worth going just for the cauliflower it was simply outstanding.
Excellent meal and ambiance. Service was best I’ve had and the menu choices too many... will have to come back again and again!
Great spot all around. Excellent food and service. Highly recommend!
Our waiter was lovely but seemed like a bit of a novice. Food arrived too quickly without enough time to enjoy our appetizers. I wouldn’t say it was a relaxing experience. Quality of food is 1st rate so keeps us coming back.
Best biscuit I’ve ever had in my entire life. Steak came out pretty rare (cold red center) instead of medium (the server recommended medium for the Butchers steak).
Amazing cucumber salad.. but those biscuits!!!!!
My partners steak (porterhouse) was divine.
Loved the crab deviled eggs too!
We will be back!
Very nice birthday celebration!
Celebrated my birthday. Amazing meal - service and ambiance. Can not wait to go back
Our reservation time was not honored. The hostess promised us a quiet booth if we would wait- she later said that she didn’t make the offer.
The prime rib was under cooked. Then it was returned completely burned. The manager did take off bill.
Hopefully there will be improvements as the location is good for us
Impeccable, attentive service. The lamb and mackerel were outstanding, as was the creamed spinach. St. Anselm will be one of my go-to's.
The food is amazing. The biscuits are a must and the pit beef sandwich reminds me of my home, Maryland.
The music was pretty loud but we were still able to carry a conversation. But food was delicious.
Great monkey bread and biscuits! Love their palomas too!
Wonderful as usual! Loved the spiced cider and had the special- a crab omelet-that was OUTSTANDING.
One of the best meals I’ve had in DC so far. The food and costumer service were outstanding!
Great food, excellent service! My server, Chris, never let my drink expire and provided top shelf service. Will return for sure!
