State & Main Kitchen + Bar - Guelph
Our server was great, she was friendly made excellent recommendations and amended the dish selected to respect items we did not want ( I am always glad to donate my onions to anyone else who loves to have more!) The portions were generous but not overwhelming and very good!
We always enjoy our meals at State and Main. This time 3 friends joined us who had never been there and all said they definitely would return. We did not feel rushed to give up our table and relaxed with people we don't see very often
We loved the BAJA BRUSSELS SPROUTS, ENCHILADA and THE BURRITO BOWL
There with a group with limited time for dinner. This was arranged and explained before hand. However, the manager assigned too many tables to our Server and it became clear that we would possibly run out of time. Fortunately, our Server did a great job to get us our food in time despite the too many tables assigned.
Food was good.
Service was good. Food as mixed. The fish and chips were good. The Calamari seemed bland compared to usual (always order, one of the best in Guelph). Chicken tenders were over done., diner only ate one.
Not bad, but usually better here.
Generally good but my salad was fairly small for 16.5 and the washroom had a very bad smell. I like the atmosphere in the restaurant. Good for social gatherings.
There was nobody on the dining room side when we arrived. I had requested a booth there. They gave us the last table going out the door. We were not impressed. It took 3 times asking for a booth before we actually got one. Obviously, they do not pay attention to the requests made at the time of making the reservation. I am a regular at this restaurant, taking guests with me, on a weekly basis. We waited a long time before a waitress came. I had to go looking for one. Not good service at all.
I found the bar area a little noisy at lunch for a business meeting so may not do that again. The food came out a bit slow (took us 45 minutes) which was a bit awkward as one of our colleagues had to leave to go to another meeting. Food never disappoints though! And I've never had any issues on the many many times I've been there.
Have wanted to try for awhile now and so glad we did. Our server Emily was great and new exactly to be at the table and when not to be.
Had the mac'n cheese, which was excellent. My only comment is that perhaps the bread crumbs could be combined with a bit of butter when put on top and then browned in the oven. They were just sort of put there in a pile...but the dish was excellent.
We also had the lamb tacos and the fish tacos...we would eat both again.
Loved the music...classic rock and just the right noise level!
We will be back!
Good but nothing to brag about
The food was great. Everyone in my party was very happy with their meal. It was also my birthday and the servers were very sweet about it. Gotta love a free dessert! Our only real issue was that the table we were seated at was on the small side for a party of four. More room would have been nice.
Everything was great except the steak in the steak salad I ordered was on the cool side.
Nice cool restaurant for heatwave relief. Fast efficient service until it got busy. Calamari was greasy. Food has been better in the past. Nice and clean. Great ambiance.
We were a party of 4 ladies each ordered something different and everyone was very pleased with food and service.
Always a great choice any night of the week. Great food!
Love using Open Table for the reservation. Great place, busy.
Excellent food and service. Would highly recommend the Perri Perri chicken burger. The salad side was amazing as well. Also recommend the cheese cake dessert...yummy!
One of our go-to places
Birthday dinner with my now ex-girlfriend. She asked for warm lemon water, unfortunately it was iced. Her noodle soup had noodles that were too hard for her liking (I concur that they were perhaps undercooked). My steak was good though. She wasn't interested in dessert. I brought her home and told her I needed to grab something from my car. I fled town.
Food and service good. Noise level too high.
Had a great time asking my best friend to be my girlfriend!! Special thanks to Hillary for her help with the laptop and surprise!!!
WE had reservations ,I was somewhat taken back to be right beside the staff's computer and on the way to the washroom .The food was good but ......$25 00 for lunch was a little steep for me .
The food was amazing, also really liked our white sangrias!
I've been here twice: once with girlfriends and more recently, with my husband. It appears to be geared to female clientele. My husband found some of the food pairings odd/strange. Also, our meals seemed particular salty.
We had a great Sunday Brunch with a menu that satisfied all 8 members of our party
Traditionally I have quite enjoyed dining here but over the last little while I have been noticing inconsistencies in the quality of the food. A tasty burger one night and a burnt one another. But this last time was especially disappointing, family was visiting and all our meals (breakfasts) were not cooked well; hard eggs, dry sausage and bacon that had only been cooked on one side.
Although I usually get good food and service my last visit was a little disappointing. We were celebrating a friends birthday and was glad I could book a reservation on open table since it was a busy Friday night. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Our food on the other hand waa so so. My mac and cheese was cold and the flat bread came after everyone finished eating ...we asked for it several times. They were nice enough to take the flat bread off the bill which was a nice gesture. Overall, inconsistent! I hope better next time visit.
Been here several times. Food is always good, and as stated in the menu. Servers are always above and beyond, as it was this time. Menu is not formal restaurant, more leaning towards pub grub. Enjoyed it. We'll be back.
I chose to try the Morning Glory, I think it is called, after looking at the options on-line and with a goal to not consume too many calories. The eggs were not hot and the sausage was meh. Probably just a bad choice because other things I have had there (well, in Cambridge) have been good. I'll just avoid breakfast-y options in future. My friend liked her fish tacos and coleslaw and our server was very nice.
We went for the pulled pork and the honey slaw
Both are gone from the menu so I am not likely to return
There is a new menu. We used to frequent the restaurant but now there is very little we will eat. What they did still have has been changed.
We will not return.
Very poor accessibility for wheelchairs. This is a big issue! The restaurant only has a few regular sized tables and chairs (as opposed to booths & high tables) and they are crammed close together along a wall with a bench for seating. The 4 of us could barely move, one of us was in a wheelchair which takes up extra space. It felt like we were on top of the people st the next table & we could hear every word of their conversation. Very disappointing, unpleasant and not very accessible. Too bad, because it is close & we would go more often otherwise.
French Onion Soup is never a big enough bowl for me anywhere, but this really could have used well, more French onion soup. Everything was great tasting. Two staples: bang bang shrimp and the lettuce wraps.
Mackenzie was excellent. We'll always be back.
Always great for good food and drinks.
4 times I have visited 2 in Hamilton 2 in Guelph.
loved it each time as my visitors did.
keep up the good name
Ordered food at 6 pm Friday, mentioned to waitress that we had to leave at 7 pm to catch a movie. No entree had arrived by 6:40, and hadn't interacted with the waitress since 6 pm, so called her over to ask what was going on. Then got our food at 6:45 and rushed dinner. Not a great eating experience. No excuses for the restaurant, since this is what they do - they are located next to the theatre and they must get a lot of patrons in the same situation we were in. Place seemed to be run by kids. Paid $40 for a mediocre dinner. I won't be back - I'll look for better alternatives if on this schedule next time.
During the online reservation process we were asked if this was a special occasion. In fact that day was our anniversary, so I added this to the reservation via the drop down menu. However no time during dinner or after did our waitress acknowledge this special occasion. Once the bill was paid and while leaving I asked our waitress why she had not acknowledge our anniversary. Her answer was " nobody told me it was your anniversary" and walked away.
So I am not to sure the "online process" works that well.
The food & the service was outstanding the server knows the foods well.
I can't eat spicy food so the server made it to suit my palate.
delicious. Will be going again I hope it is next time.
Unfortunately the bison burger was very disappointing , Very small patty size and underwhelming flavour I was expecting much better than was served , My wife has the gluten free pulled pork also very disappointing the bun was very dry a broke apart easily ,the pork was also very dry and portion size was disappointing as well. Overall a let down for sure would not go again. Oh and the honey slaw I ordered very poor in taste as well. This was our first time and last honestly we were very unimpressed by the food , we were in a rush so I did not complain about or order thought I would do the review on line .Oh by the way the only good thing was our service person she was great.
My husband wanted to try the ribs and loved them. Glad to see that you have sweet potato fries as a side dish. We always substitute fries for sweet potato fries. I tried the Gobi - spelling, shredded pork in tacos with cilantro herb and a nice garden salad - very tasty. Everyone was happy with their meal.
