Nice evening at Stovell’s for my wife’s milestone birthday.
It was the second day of the 10pm curfew and the staff were handling as well as they could. The meal by that we had was nice and the service was excellent. Some other tables didn’t fare as well though and treated the staff particularly rudely. May make sense for the restaurant to reduce their covers slightly.
Just a minor annoyance, I was a little surprised by some flies around our table, wouldn’t have expected them in that place. Otherwise it was a good experience.
A very different fine dining experience with our choice of the Mexican experience menu.
So flavoursome and extremely enjoyable feast. Such a welcome change from the traditional French cuisine which is also served here and also looks amazing. With new Covid rules in place where you have to be finished by 10pm I would allow yourselves 2.5 hrs to fully enjoy the Mexican experience menu. We allowed ourselves 2 hrs and it was a bit rush towards the end.
I would also say our server was so bubbly and pleasant. Extremely knowledgeable and put a smile on our faces with her infectious personality. We will definitely be back.
Excellent food and excellent service. Can't recommend highly enough.
The Service was slow at the start and not to the expect standard.
Chateaubriand was terrible - chewy and fatty.....should not have been served.
Venue is lovely and with some things corrected could be very good.
Didn’t live up to reviews we had seen. Not good value
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Stovells and the entire evening was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. We’ve always loved the venue - the low ceilings, period features and the sense that you’re nestled away somewhere very special. We enjoyed a drink in the small bar before moving to our table. Just the right buzz and atmosphere in the room
- not too loud, or too quiet. A formal setting to remind you that you’re somewhere special for dinner and yet with a relaxed and convivial ambience, cultivated in part by the friendly and attentive serving staff, who impressed us throughout.
The food was absolutely delicious - we had the Cornish Crab and a flower broth (small but delicious and quite unique in flavour) followed by the halibut (Deliciously cooked and accompanied by a delectable carrot purée) and the beef Wellington which I’m told was deconstructed and delicious. We shared the chips and the best tasting chard we’ve ever had - cooked over an oak fire. Rich and full of depth, although It was one of the side dishes, it was one of my favourites. We finished with a chocolate mousse which was light and yet full of flavour. Finished our three courses feeling satisfied but not too full which is always a good way to end the evening! We will certainly be visiting again, it was a hugely enjoyable evening and one that felt special.
We had a nice evening for our 30th wedding anniversary but sadly it wasn't "special" as I was hoping it would be. We thought that there were some significant issues which I should have raised on the evening, but instead I chose not to create an atmosphere with the family celebration. Firstly the staff were very good, the wine, that was in stock (our first choice was not available) was very good. The Beef Wellington was tasteless (x2) The Chateaubriand was well cooked and tasty but was at a £30 supplement. The roasted vegetables that we had were inedible, they tasted burnt (well they actually were, but I think that was how they were supposed to be), the Chocolate mousse was average. The Foie gras was superb. We did buy a bottle of non vintage champagne, but felt that the nearly £150 a head was too much for the fare we received and to be fair we have spoken to the establishment about the evening....I think we both learned something, but I do not think I will be visiting again, which is a shame because the ambiance was nice as was the location for us.
Really lovely restaurant and the food was so nice. The staff couldn't do enough to help and were forever checking we were ok. Definately recommend.
Service was extremely friendly though we felt it a little overbearing at times especially the welcome 'you have made the right decision dining here', 'you are going to have an amazing dinner' etc etc.
We waited around 45 mins between starters and mains by which time I was too tired to care (perhaps we should have booked in earlier than pur 8.15pm slot), though diners that had ordered after us were served before us and had almost finished by the time ours arrived, the reason given was that 'the kitchen was very busy' I was given a drink as an apology for the delay though my partner wasn't (perhaps due to being pregnant and clearly having reached my limit of comfort), I didn't really want the drink (and wasn't asked) but at least it was an acknowledgement of an apology.
I asked if I could order dessert and the waiter kindly replied that I could give my order to anyone working there (not just the lady waiting our table) but then walked off without taking my order leading to another wait.
The starters were simply average, the main of pork was good, and the dessert was good but not outstanding, perhaps we ordered the wrong things but overall we were disappointed.
This was the second time at the restaurant, the first 6 years ago was excellent and we couldn't wait to return. The setting is beautiful and the concept excellent, unfortunately our experience this time was very different, such a shame!
It was our anniversary treat and we had a lovely evening.
The staff were very attentive and we felt very well looked after.
The food was amazing. We had the Cote du Beouf which was the best ever.
A truly wonderful evening. Thank you Stovells.
The restaurant was everything it claimed to be. The Covid precautions were meticulous. We felt very safe. The service was charming and attentive and the food, though sparing, was superb.
We will definitely revisit.
Every visit to this restaurant was a uniquely delightful experience. Excellent food, friendly staff and great ambience. Makes you want to return for more.
My daughter and son in law treated me as it was a very special birthday!! We had a lovely table, the service was exceptional and the food was excellent. Thank you for my birthday treat too.
Fantastic evening! Food and service faultless! Definitely going back!
Amazing food with superb service
Great experience and value for money
Lovely meal with a lovely ambience and fantastic service. Really attentive and well worth a visit! Will be re-acquainting.
Fabulous food and lovely atmosphere. Cannot fault the service and would definitely recommend to anyone.
The meat we all had was not edible. Worst Sunday meal I have ever experienced. Staff were very friendly but said nothing when we clearly didn’t enjoy the meal.
very disappointing mexican tasting menu . food was boring didn’t seem very mexican and not consequently not worth the money ! wine choices limited and expensive even for Surrey This restaurant is a wannabe michelin star and it doesn’t even come close Stovell’s rarely changes the menu -it’s been more or less the same since it opened .
Not enough dishes particularly when informed of pescatarian only one suitable dish
Very enjoyable lunch and great, friendly service from Marianne and Samson
Sunday lunch beautifully done and with Master Chef treats along the way.
We had the taste of Mexico menu with wine pairing for a special treat and it was utterly amazing. There's wasn't a single course I didn't enjoy and we can't wait to go back to try the a la carte menu. It was a fantastic experience and I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
It was a rather last minute arrangement to go out for lunch on my birthday. We were welcomed by a lovely friendly girl. Temperature taken at the entrance. Nice corner table. Menu fairly limited and as someone who doesn't eat meat, my options were few. However I do eat fish and that's what I had and really enjoyed. Food was so beautifully presented and tasted sublime! Service excellent. All in all it was a lovely birthday treat.
We live Stovell’s and we’re glad to be back. They’ve made lots of great changes to make you feel safe but one of those appears to be having very limited staff. The whole night I only saw 3 people and that led to slower and less attentive service than normal. All of them tried hard and were lovely but it took a long time to get drinks etc. Will definitely be back again though and continue to support them, too good a restaurant to lose!
Dined at your restaurant on a number of occasions including your private dinning area to celebrate our wedding anniversary with family and close friends.
Sadly the experience fell significantly below our previous experiences.
Food quality and presentation was extremely poor. Finally on checking the bill I was charged for 2 bottles of wine Instead of one.
Service with a smile and the food was to die for! Especially the duck foie and it’s sauce! Will be going back again very quickly.
Had a lovely lunch for my husband’s birthday. The team looked after us really well and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was good - but for our taste, needed a bit more seasoning.
We will go back - probably for another special occasion.
Sunday lunch was delicious, the beef was cooked perfectly for us, tender and tasty.
Only criticism was the the Yorkshire puddings were too crispy & hollow.
Service was outstanding.
We were attended to by Marianna who was excellent. Very friendly and professional.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and would definitely visit again for a special occasion.
Temperature checked on arrival which was comforting. What wasn’t was being asked for our phone number in front of other guests- this is very private and therefore would have expected this to be very discreet.
Food was fantastic
No offer for any water. Would have expected this as standard.
We went for the wine pairing - the wine somellier was rushed of his feet and we didn’t get much time with him as a result we were sat with empty glasses.
If i was to go again I would just order a a few bottles of wine.
Great food and service. Lovely setting. Would always recommend.
Amazing birthday, brilliant service, superb food. Thankyou
A lovely restaurant to visit for any occasion, the food is always good as is the service and another very enjoyable evening ! Thank you Stovells !
Very professional welcome
Enjoyed a drink at the bar before we were showed to our table
Layout was very comfortable and spacious
Service was very slow and our waiter was unable to answer or questions about the food and the unique cooking styles we had were interested in
We ordered the chateaubriand for two which was served very rare
Stovell's has put in place good Covid 19 measures including temperature checks. The quality of the food and service was as high as always. We enjoyed a great evening.
Overall not the best. Had the Taste of Mexico. Fish dishes were amazing and the service given the circumstances was very good.
However, the 3 meat main dishes were extremely poor, such a shame!
Food and service was amazing and we will be returning - such a lovely experience and the staff made it that extra special.
Everything we ate and drank was amazing. The staff were wonderful. We had the tasting menu and there was maybe a bit too much time in between courses. That’s the only thing I would change!!!!! Lovely meal
This was not our first visit to Stovell's but the first one for lunch during the Covid-19 virus. The tables were well spaced out and all precautions taken to ensure a safe dining experience. As always, the food was very good and the staff well-informed and attentive. Our first lunch out for three months on the occasion of our Emerald Wedding Anniversary was a very enjoyable experience.
