With out a doubt some of the best Shushi i have eaten in the past 30+ years. Very incentive and the sashimi was unbelievable. Not only will I recommend this spot, I will eat here again!
Food was mediocre at best. There are many better choices for sushi in the area.
Fruit flies !
We have been looking for a place like Oishii for a long while. After moving to the MD suburbs, we were reluctant to head downtown for a simple sushi night, and although Sushi-Ko is very good, we found Oishii to be much more authentic. And they took a reservation for us for the sushi bar! The sushi chef was generous, made suggestions, and we walked away knowing this was going to be our new sushi spot. Just don't tell everyone, because it's a gem and there's only 12 or so seats at the sushi bar!
This is a good restaurant. Complimentary Parking is available in the back of the strip mall. In eateries near dc, this is a really big deal.
Although the decor is modest, the food is very good.
Had several unique appetizers. Try their pate - soft poached goose liver delicately sliced over agedashi tofu - yumm!
Their sushi was very fresh and in some cases outstanding. The chef saves and prepares the fatty parts of different fish (other than just tuna) and uses these "toro" sections as part of their sushi/sashimi offerings. They were very tasty and not something you get every day.
I only wish I asked for less rice in my nigiri. That's not a disparagement of their sushi, just my personal preference. Next time I will remember!
Our server was extremely helpful in helping us pick our selections. He made special requests based on our tastes and never failed us in his recommendations.
One negative note: there were fruit flies buzzing around in the corner that we were seated. The people apologized profusely and put out a citronella candie to keep them away. We were not bothered by the flies again for the rest of the evening. Maybe they should keep citronella candles lit for the duration of the nighttime dining.
Having worked in food processing, it is virtually impossible to get rid of fruit flies once you have an infestation. One way is to “bomb” the place overnight and then do a very thorough scrubbing to make sure that the insecticide chemicals are gone.
Don’t know which option is worse - citronella or bombing. But you do need to take care of the fruit flies.
Would eat there again, so long as they keep the citronella going.
Great authentic food. Fantastic service, nice experience.
Lots of fruit flies. The service was great. Food was mediocre.
Best sushi in Maryland. We had such delicacies as O Toro,Chu Toro,Amber Jack,Sable and goose liver.Every piece of sushi and sashimi was delicious and melted in my mouth. We also had a hamachi jaw and the Kimono Roll which was incredibly delicious. My wife and I shared a bottle of cold sake called Sweet Dreams. It was tasty and smooth and potent. For desert we shared Mochi Ice Cream. Both vanilla and green tea was delicious.Sushi Oishii is on par with Hatsuhana which is the best sushi in New York.
Excellent service by all staff. Good value for fresh Sushi and well stocked bar. We will definitely return.
Open table was perfect - our table had a reserved sign on it when we arrived - no waiting which is exactly as it is supposed to work.
The sushi was fresh and delicious. They had 2 things that most Sushi Restaurants don’t have.O Toro which is the belly of the tuna and they had Hamachi Jaw which is a real treat. We had the Sushi and Sashimi combo,O Toro sushi and sashimi,Eel Sashimi ,a heart shaped roll with spicy tuna and a spicy salmon appetizer. For dessert my wife had Strawberry and vanilla mochi ice cream.Again not all sushi restaurants have this delicious dessert. Our waitress was Wee Wee.She was a terrific waitress with a great personality who accommodated any special request. All in all this was a great experience and if you like great sushi with attentive service this is the place for you.I wasn’t able to drink this evening but next time I would like to try some of the items on their extensive sake list. Also there is a parking lot in the back so you don’t have to look for parking on the street
The sushi was pretty good. The eel roll was kind of chewy but everything else tasted great.
food was good and service was ok
We had a fantastic time celebrating a couple of friends’ birthdays. The food is amazing!!
Good sushi, excellent service. My new favorite sushi restaurant.
I almost never write a review, but this place is a gem and I want to say how both the experience and sushi was the best I have had in the area. Great specials, every piece of sushi was VERY fresh and good. I will absolutely go again, frequently even, and will let everyone I know that to me, this is the best sushi restaurant in the area. And, if you go with people that aren’t sushi people, they have awesome alternatives. Love it...
Excellent food and very attentive staff. I asked the sushi chef 2 make whatever he recommended since it was my first time. My date and I left very satisfied.
Sushi was very fresh. They were quite busy and sushi bar was running behind so the waitress was kind enough to bring some edamame on the house. Great service!
Best Sushi ever! Family goes here weekly.
Absolutely awesome. Fantastic variety of fresh fish. Very patient with kids.
We enjoyed a Japanese dinner above the average for MoCo. Sushi and sashimi were quite fresh. The grilled entrees were large and well presented, with more than enough to take home. The noise level was quiet enough for the over 80 year-olds in our group to feel comfortable.
Absolutely delicious, great service and a lovely ambiance. Try it if you haven't.
I think this place gets busier during lunchtime, but the dinner crowd is always sparse when I've been there. Nearby new construction areas are getting more attention, but this place is great and worth the trip. Highly recommend. Great Sushi place!
Superb food and atmosphere
We will be back!!!!!!
My guests and I are wine drinkers, as are most of our friends. While the sushi and shashimi were very very good, the wine list was terrible: three whites, of which two were sweet; four reds, of which two were low grade cabernets and one an undistinguished pinot. The wines were overpriced--even for MontCo. The server was willing, but not experienced. The ambiance was somewhat dark. Fortunately, the noise level was low because we were the only party there for most of our lunch.
Beautiful restaurant, great service, excellent food, fabulous menu choices. But pricey. Ended up being over $100 for 3 people with only 1 drink and 1 desert.
The service is amazingly attentive. The food is delightful and authentic. You can watch the sushi being prepared. The presentation is beautiful.
The service was wonderful, we felt well attended to. The food was very good. The Crispy Calamari and fat noodles were surprise delights. All food was fresh and we really enjoyed the sushi.
Food quality and service were perfectly fine, but the location and restaurant itself is kind of boring.
Not the best sushi, not the worst. Certainly better options in the area. Very nice atmosphere. Don't order the grilled salmon and shrimp- dry and tasteless. Go with the teriyaki items instead, if you don't like sushi.
Have been here before and again this time didn't disappoint. Sushi was fabulous. O-toro was good. My father felt the lamb teriyaki was a little bland, but otherwise most enjoyed their meals.
I took my lady here for Valentines Day - this is some of the best sushi around! Service was very good too. It was a good night, and it started here:
Okay food, there are better places in Bethesda Ave Rockville but overall okay
fresh & well priced sushi
What a great little sushi place. Like, really little, make reservations as their tables filled up quickly after we arrived. We sampled a few different selections (nigiri) plus a few rolls and an order of chicken Teriyaki. The octopus was a little chewy, and the spicy scallop was too hot for me but the wife loved it, the rest were all great. My favorite was the pepper tuna, so flavorful. Dragon roll was very good, but this is the roll we always order everywhere, and I've had better. The teriyaki was delicious, excellent option for anyone that doesn't eat sushi. Oh yea, and the seaweed salad!! Never would've thought of ordering it, but I'm so glad we did, it is amazing. Lots of families there with kids. Decor was nice, and they had three sushi chefs working that night which a) were fun to watch and b) kept the orders flowing. Overall a very nice, relaxed and tasty meal. I'd definitely recommend and we'll surely return.
Side note, right across the street is an independent coffee shop with a mean after-dinner espresso.
This is a great neighborhood spot for some quality sushi. I took my family and all enjoyed the meal. We will be back soon.
Sushi was tasty but small. Hours of sushi chef in house not advertised on Open Table, nor where we notified by wait staff that the chefs were leaving when we placed our order. We wanted to try a few things and then order more, but were unable to do so.
This place is a gem! My husband and I are extremely picky when it come to food and agree this is the best Sushi we have ever had! Phenomenal eats and exceptional service!!
My husband and I have lived in the area for years and drive by this place all the time. We finally decided to check it out and we wished we would have done it sooner. Sushi, dumplings, spring rolls, and noodles are great! will be back!
The meal was about what we expected and was a reasonable portion size for the price paid. The food was good, not memorable. The place was crazy when we arrived. Not sure if the hostess didn't show up or what. No one was stationed near the front, so no one was tracking who came in first. We had a reservation but there was no one there to tell. We did get seated as soon as a table was available and since we arrived a little early, we were at our table by the time of our reservation. Our waitress was efficient, but very matter of fact. No conversation, no presentation of any specials or recommendations.
