Sweetbay Restaurant & Bar
Decor was new and enjoyable for the area. The menu is well designed but pricey for the area - wine especially eyebrow raising pricey. The food was excellent so the value is high. Service was friendly.
The music choice was wholly inappropriate for the ambiance and decor - country music both didn't fit and wasn't enjoyable.
Several overly loud bar patrons soured the otherwise quiet restaurant but that can't be blamed on the staff or natural intent but it is a byproduct of a single room establishment.
We will be back, though.
Great food, service, decor, vibe but it was so loud we couldn't hear each other. I was told I was in the quiet section. Don't know if I'll come back on a weekend.
Our food was delicious!
Our service? Awful. Makes me want to reconsider if we go back. She never once came to our table after cocktails and dinner was served to ask how things were or if we’d like another drink. Wow! Major disappointment! We were so excited to try the cocktails and yet, had an opportunity to only have one.
Also, did not at all like the hostesses staring us down uncomfortably so with an obvious, “vacate your table please so as to get another group in.“ Nevermind that we had reservations too and were not “hanging out.” It was poor taste.
Again, the food was delicious. But everything else? Not sure worth booking a sitter for a date night with my husband going forward. And that is so disappointing!
Sweet Bay was amazing! The food was great both times we went there and the service was excellent. We have now been there twice and won’t hesitate to go back again. This most recent time we went, they had a short rib special and it was the best I have ever had, hands down! My wife and I both got it, along with an appetizer of wings and an excellent creme brûlée. They have some great gluten free choices and both times we were there, our waitresses doubled checked with the chef to ensure all items were gluten free for my wife. This place is great and I look forward to continuing to support them.
Our experience was wonderful! The Scallops over Risotto are AMAZING. We tried the Key Lime Dessert, wow oh wow. Delicious. I would definitely recommend.
Delicious dinner and appetizers. Noise level was too high to enjoy conversation in the booths. Front tables were ok for noise. It would be good to add sound control in the booth area .
Second time here. The cocktails are beautifully crafted, as is the menu. I find the menu a tad pricey, but not enough for me to go somewhere else. The noise is an issue, at times. Maybe some sound-absorbing things?
Portions great, calamari perfect could of had whole dinner with just multiple orders of calamari. Wife's salad shrimp was very good. My dinner seafood mix in rice was to spicy which made it intolerable to enjoy. Never order again.
PS; I enjoy Mexican food with hot peppers but that is expected to be hot.
I have eaten here several times. The food is exceptionally good and the service has always been top notch. If you have not been here, you need to go.
We had a great night with friends at Sweetbay. Marcel never fails to deliver fantastic food, and the service is always wonderful. This just feels like our neighborhood restaurant!
SweetBay is a lovely gem in downtown Leonardtown! Excellent food, 1/2 off bottles of wine 🍷, superb service from Sara!!
I will definitely visit again to try more of their dishes!
Double date night.
The deviled egg app is AMAZING! Scallops with Mushroom risotto was delicious. Hands down best scallops I have ever had and I am from coastal New England where seafood is kind of our thing :)
Most definately!~~! The ONLY place to get a Paella that is truly a work of art. Sweet Fuzz is the perfect preamble and a creme brulee is the perfect finale. Tavia wasn't there this time, but Sarah took care of us. What a wonderful place to visit~!~!~! Looking forward to having the other wonders listed on the menu.
Good food. The paella was excellent. Crab dip more fluff than crab. Very packed in and noise was extremely loud. Hard to communicate with person across table without yelling and contributing to noise level.
First, the food was excellent, but I felt it was overpriced. The table we were seated at was tiny - we were shifting things constantly to make room. The noise... very loud. We had reservations, but were perhaps treated like a walk-in. The hostesses looked lost and stated they would need to figure it out and clean off some tables.
It’s nice to finally have a finer dining establishment in St Mary’s County. Food was delicious but a bit pricey. There’s not much elbow room as they maximize tabletops. Even with the few drawbacks mentioned above I highly recommend Sweetbay and will make this a frequent “date night” location.
Service, food and value was excellent! I will definitely go back again and highly recommend Sweet Bay !!
Loved the food and the service was great! Incredible drink menu!
Great location and service. The fries were amazing but I expected a better burger for the price. I’ll try something different next time. It was crowded and noisy, maybe next time we can get a booth and it would be better.
While the food and service was good, it was overly expense.
Hands down one of the best restaurants in the area. I have been here a few times and yet to be disappointed. I am hoping this place is a sign of future things to come for our community.
Food was very good however the prices are Too high on some items
Everything was spot on! The food was excellent and the restaurant was very clean and modern. We went Valentines evening and it was crowded but the service was excellent and the food was cooked perfect. We had the wings for an appetizer and they were cooked perfectly. The portion was 10 which was plenty. My wife had the paella which was very flavorful and spicy. The taste was great. I had the halibut and it was cooked perfectly and was pared excellent with the avocado salsa and rice. I’m very impressed with such a fine restaurant in Leonardtown.
I was disappointed. I had made a valentines day reservation a month in advance in hopes that we'd really enjoy this experience - it was average at best. stared at an empty glass for 15 min while the waiter completely ignored us and serviced tables around us. Brought us wine glasses with no wine - waited 10 more minutes for that. Very chatty server - could have been more effective without all the conversation. Sound level needs to be addressed...VERY LOUD. Heard every conversation and laugh. Could not readily hear wife across the table. Salad was small. Asked to split Halibut meal - came on a single plate - after asking - got another plate and split myself. Usually would have been split in the back - maybe a slight upcharge to add a bit more rice to each...did not happen. Bottled wines were EXTREMELY expensive - $25 wine was $70 (ex. santa margherita pinot grigio)
The place was packed, and It is too loud to talk quietly to your date. We were so close to the tables next to us that we could hear their conversations, read their Apple Watch messages, see their food up close and personal, etc. However, the food was delicious and the service was very good. I think that they should take out a few tables, but I am sure that that will not happen if they are filling the place up every night.
The food and service were phenomenal.
The only negative was how loud it was in the restaurant. My husband and I sat at small table for two and had difficulty hearing one another speak. If Sweetbay can address that issue they will be TOP OF THE CLASS!
We had an early reservation on Valentine’s Day the restaurant ambience was nice but hectic. Our table was toward the back and there was a ton of traffic walking back and forth the entire time. Did not feel intimate enough for a date night. I would go again with friends though as the food was very good. Here’s the really bad part. With an average of $30 a plate why would you charge $13 for a Manhattan (makers mark) and serve it in a small champagne glass? The glass was also only 3/4 full! We are frequent diners at the Dry Dock and I would have need to purchase 2 of your Manhattans to their 1 Even though I can afford it that’s just not good business. You’re almost there, but your drink prices and serving size is going to chase away some of your possible clientele. In the future I will probably stop somewhere else for drinks and then enjoy dinner at your establishment. Would I recommend you, yes but with a warning. To end on a high note your food is probably better than most restaurants in our area!
Hands down the best restaurant we have been to in this area. We felt like we left Pax, and went to another city upon dining there- and the food was top notch. Highly recommend.
Excellent food and service. I highly recommend this new restaurant in the hear of Leonardtown.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious.
Great service! The food was delicious and the presentation was well done!
With it being a new restaurant, and being very crowded on the day we went, the staff struggle to keep checking on customers for the appetizer and food order.
Had better experiences. Mary V. was a superb waitress. Do not believe Leonardtown needs a $48.00/24 ounce steak. Ridiculous up charge to change starches on an entree. This is not Capital Grill or Morton's. The management needs to realize that they are in Southern Maryland and not DC. Thats what happened to the last place in the square.
The crowd noise was still present, some form of acoustic baffles are needed.
I was NOT prepared for your Sweet Fuzz!~~!~! Most amazing thing I have ever experienced!~~!~!~!
Great Paella~! Haven't had one since Sevilla in 1971. Birthday for Daughter,, She had the hallibut and loved it. Her husband had the scallops and loved THEM!~. Shared the Paella with wife,, she loved it, as well. This will be our Fav for the forseeable future. Glad to have you here.
Reservation at 630 got there at 620. Had a drink and our table was ready. Service impeccable, food amazing! The whole experience was fantastic. Pete and his staff truly know what they are doing.
Great waiter, great food though over priced. Scallops for $30 but only four. The risotto was delish and plentiful as were the brussels sprouts (overpriced veggie $9), deviled eggs for $10. We were told that we had to vacate our table as our time was up (2 1/2 hour limit apparently) . Our table spent about $700 or more so I was a bit surprised though the place is new, trendy and in a restaurant starved location. Yes, I'll go back and try another food. Our reservation was needed as the place was packed. Buy a bottle of wine as the reds are about $12 a glass. The pinot noir was good. Note the tip included on large parties; we had seven.
Welcome to Leonardtown ... we've been waiting. Great food, great service. Highly recommended, but make a reservation.
