TAO Chicago offers guests a sensual trip through the cuisines of Asia. The design-driven restaurant and adjoining nightclub is inspired by the original TAO locations in New York City, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

TAO Chicago features multiple levels, creating dynamic spaces within the historic building’s shell, while adding TAO’s Asian-influenced DNA to the restaurant, lounge and nightclub including murals by artist Hush and TAO’s signature 16-foot-tall Quan Yin statue anchoring one end of the dining room.

TAO Chicago’s restaurant menu, created by TAO Group Partner and Chef Ralph Scamardella , is complete with Pan-Asian offerings from the sea, sky and land including signature dishes like Satay of Chilean Sea Bass, Crispy Rice Tuna and a Wagyu Rib-Eye.

    When I sat down, I told my waiter I was vegetarian and he was telling me which dishes I could eat. Then, I ordered the “soy chicken” off the menu, thinking it was soy chicken. Many Asian restaurants have vegetarian meat substitutes so I didn’t question whether it was real meat or not. If it’s real meat with a soy sauce on the side, why not say that?? It should have been indicated somewhere that it is NOT soy chicken, but real chicken with a soy sauce. So I had eaten several pieces before realizing it was real meat as the veg meat substitutes are so similar to real meat now. He took the dish off from my bill but not before making me feel like it was kind of my fault. He said “I think we had a misunderstanding.” What misunderstanding?! He knew I was vegetarian from the beginning and didn’t say anything when I ordered it!! The menu just says “soy chicken”!! So then he said he could substitute tofu in another dish and recommended two that would be good. So I chose the curry scallops but sub tofu. I was then charged the FULL price of the scallops, $42!!! For just tofu with curry sauce!! I am honestly disgusted with Tao. I fréquent the location in NYC where I live, but no longer will go there either. I hope to get a response from management about this because it really is unacceptable. My bill came out to some $162 for just me, which I don’t mind, but I was fed meat as a vegetarian and then blatantly ripped off.

    My first time at TAO and it was a great experience! Everyone on staff were lovely- from the coat check attendant to the receptionist team to our server and waiter, Andrew. I arrived a little later than my reserved time, but the wait for our table wasn’t bad at all. We used that time to visit the bar and take a few pics. Our round booth was located in a prime spot, which will be my preferred spot from now on. We sat in a semi-secluded area that overlooked the rest of the dining area with no other parties nearby. It was off on the side of the first set of stairs going into the dining area– it was absolutely perfect since the energy of the restaurant was extremely high with the music playing loudly and loud chatter from everyone trying to speak over it. Andrew tended to our table in a timely and friendly manner throughout our visit. We received our drinks, small plates, and entrees at great intervals. There was another server who tended to us as well, but I can’t recall his name. He was friendly as well. The food was really tasty and easily shareable. Between all of us we ordered sizzling soy chicken, shishito peppers, lobster and shrimp rolls, triple pork fried rice, lobster fried rice, Thai sweet and spicy shrimp, honey glazed salmon, Chinese broccoli, and the Cantonese cauliflower. My only critique is that the shishito peppers didn’t have any charring on them. It was the only thing we didn’t finish. The drinks were pretty tasty as well. My party either got the TAO-tini or lychee martini. The lychee fruit were so yummy! I was celebrating my birthday, so Andrew gifted me strawberry sorbet which was absolutely divine with fresh strawberries blended in. Overall, my party and I enjoyed our time here and will visit again at some point. 8/10!

    The vibe was great. The dj played great music I was dancing while I was eating. The food was a little over priced to me but still good. Our waitress was friendly and personable. The food came out fast as well.

    I have to say, TAO has become one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The vegan options are plentiful, the ambiance is excellent, the servers are top notch and the customer service is very good. Every time I've asked for a particular table they've taken care of me. I really appreciate that!

    Like eating at a theme park, though the theme is an odd jumble of “Asian-like” features, and the blaring, loud, incongruous music takes away from any ambiance. The food was mediocre at best. There are interesting spaces for larger groups in curtained corners, sky boxes, etc.

    Celebrated my husband’s birthday and made a last minute decision to try Tao, so happy we made that decision! We made reservations an hour before dinner, there wasn’t a long wait and the service was quick. The food, OMG the food was incredible! We had the lobster fried rice, honey glazed salmon and the chili pepper chicken, all phenomenal, we can’t stop talking about it.

    First Tao experience for one of two and I was blown away. From the warm welcome on arrival to a crew member that fixed a slight table wobble before we could have thought to mention it, to a manager greeting and attentive service for our whole 3 hour experience, we will absolutely return our next time in Chicago. From sushi through small plates and entrees, everything was cooked perfectly across sea bass, ribs and chicken and the eggplant and bok choy were a hit. Do yourself a favor and add 30 mins to the treadmill and get the perfectly wrapped molten lava cake to finish. A+ experience.

    We were seated right away but no one came to our table for 15 minutes. Finally a manager came by and asked us if we needed anything and I said our waiter. She came with an attitude and was not pleasant. This was a birthday dinner and was very disappointed. The spare rib small plate was a poor piece of meat. I’ve been to the LA and Las Vegas TAO. This was a disappointment
