Birthday dinner. Love the vibe here. Ahi Tuna appetizer was perfect. Seafood entrees good but risotto took over the plate. Desserts were gigantic and very satisfying. Our server was attentive even though they seemed under staffed. All in all a nice celebration.
Thanks so much for the review, Clarkburg! The Ahi Tuna and so yummy and I absolutely love our desserts!
We loved the shecrab soup, the maui tacos and bbq ribs. Look forward to trying more on the menu.
Thanks for the great review, Pam! The She Crab Soup is definitely my favorite!
Maybe they were having an off day, but our service was not very good. We had to ask for utensils, they forgot to being me my cup of soup (I had to ask for it AFTER I got my entree) and our server did not come to check on us to see if we needed refills or anything. The food was average at best which was disappointing because all of the reviews and pictures are good.
Great find just up the street from the convention center. The staff are so friendly and helpful. And the food was great as well.
Thanks for the great review! We pride our selves on good food and good and good service!
Have been many times. Food was great as always. Not very busy but a little loud. Server relocated us to a more quiet area. Ended with my 3rd wine choice as supply/inventory was low. Server did a nice job given the circumstances. Will be back. Hoping for a continued recovery.
Fantastic Place. Delicious food, great staff, warm and fun atmosphere. This is the first place I ate in Richmond and the first place I ate after getting my full vaccine dose.
Restaurant associates excellent service. Delicious food!
Thanks for the wonderful review, Cassandra. We pride our selves on good hospitality and equally good food!
Great experience with wonderful food.
We've gone to Tarrant's Cafe three times. The first time we really enjoyed it. This time, the food was subpar. We started with the caprese - which was the highlight of the meal. My wife got the filet ($30) and we're not sure what it really was - rubbery and tough. I got the chicken picatta ($20) and it was bland and contained 3 capers. The broccoli and mashed potatoes were good. The drinks and wine list are priced at a level which does not represent what the food and atmosphere delivers. The service was good.
The fish tacos are my favorite and once again did not disappoint!
Food was not the same as in the past. Had an all-around bad experience with food and service. A special request for the dining room area was not observed, had to sit in the bar booth which was unacceptable. I spoke with the manager the next day, as I was told no one was on duty Wednesday. Waiting to hear back from Joe to rectify this situation.
Really fun restaurant repurposed from an 1870s drug store. Seafood was excellent. Had a lovely time.
Son’s commissioning ceremony into the Army
Their bread is phenomenal!!! I was very pleased with the crab and spinach dip, the reuben was excellent as well. But man that bread with garlic and butter! Amazing. The server was kind and the overall vibe was pleasant.
This was a wonderful experience! And, a great way to spend Mother's Day. The ambience is superb. The food was 5 star. The service was above and beyond. I can't wait to go back!
Thanks for the wonderful review! I'm glad you enjoyed you Mother's Day and that the food was so great! We can't wait to have you back.
Great atmosphere, family friendly. My food was amazing. I ordered the surf and turf which was delicious. The crab cake was huge. I was impressed with the music, old school soul music. Definitely will be visiting again.
My wife and I were celebrating Mother’s Day. We had a. Delightful late lunch. We love Tarrant’s and plan to go again soon.
We went to Tarrant’s for the first time for Mother’s Day, and were so pleased. They were able to accommodate us in a booth and still maintained space at every other table. Even though it was Mother’s Day, the service was prompt and kind. The food was delicious, too.
Food was outstanding but waiter was not attentive to his job.
Do not judge a book by its cover. This place had very nice food, but I almost did not go because the front of the restaurant did not look inviting - it look outdated. However, the food was really good. I have very happy my dinner! So, I would definitely return. :-)
We had a decent time at the Tarrant’s: ambiance, spending time with my mother, not too busy; however, this experience being our first wasn’t the greatest. Both my wife and I ordered egg dishes (Eggs Benedict and the Benedict with a filet instead of ham). Both of us really liked the egg portions of the meal, but the potatoes served were very sub-par. They were dark, dry and somewhat tasteless. The best way to describe them is that we felt like we were eating potatoes at a bad buffet. My mother ordered the French Toast Foster; we all sampled it and had no complaints.
I am not saying the waitress was rude, but something was off because she presented herself as completely disinterested in our service. Can’t say she was dismissive, but certainly not engaging at all. I didn’t ask her if everything was okay, so she could have been having a bad day. However, when you are a “server” it shouldn’t appear that serving people is a pain in the butt. I don’t want to focus solely on her though because every employee we interacted with lacked hospitality skills, including the person whose job is titled “host.”
Overall I would rate the experience as a C-. It’s a cool location with a diverse and big menu...and the prices reflect that, but I wouldn’t pay those prices for the food and service again, when we could have eaten at the local breakfast spot near my mother’s house and paid 1/2 as much and had better tasting meals and better service.
Food + service doesn’t match the prices nor hassle of finding parking. We don’t live in the Richmond area so we will patron other restaurants while we are in town, but it was my mother’s second time in there and she mentioned that the food and service was a lot better the first time she went.
Great food, fun atmosphere, home style cooking and a Richmond Classic.
Thanks for fantastic review, Anne! We can't wait to have you back!
The service was great. Our waitress took very good care of us. The drinks were strong and the wings were decent. Despite the covid restrictions the restaurant did very well with seating and social distance arrangements.
Thanks for the great review! I'm so glad you had such dining experience with us. We pride ourselves on good food and good service!
Service was extremely slow and uneven. We would go for long stretches and never see our server. The food was fine, but I remember it being better than just fine.
Thanks for the feedback, Iago. I'm so sorry to hear the service was slow. We usually pride ourselves on hospitality. I'm sorry we missed the mark. Definitely sounds like an off night for us and I do hope you'll come back and give us a second chance.
Love the food and casual ambiance.
Thanks for the great review!
The scallops were probably the worst I’ve ever had. They were served in “creamy” risotto. Which thankfully I was told beforehand what it was, since what was served to me was a hard dried out dense brick of something. All of this was swimming in a pool of olive oil. Nothing about it was appetizing not the presentation or the food itself. I would not recommend this place for anything other than a salad.
One of our favorite downtown restaurants. Overall, prices seem to have gone up as most entree's were mid-$20's. GF had the shrimp and grits and thought they were ok. Said they tasted differently than she'd had before. Somewhat sweet but otherwise tasteless, but shrimp was perfect. Another friend had the Southern ribs and raved about them, My vodka shrimp pasta was very good and I had enough for a take home. We were seated next to the bathroom, so the traffic left a little to be desired as for atmosphere.
We were warned when we entered the restaurant that we had 90 minutes to complete our dining. After that the next wave of customers were to take our table. Waitperson asked if we wanted dessert, but noted we had a little over 10 minutes left on the clock. Waitperson had a great personality and was energetic and fun. COVID has obviously made thing different, so be it. Hope prices revert back to pre-COVID once things settle down or we won't be going as often.
What a nice find. We stayed at the Marriott and took the 5 block walk to the restaurant. We were greeted by Jake who was standing behind the very cool bar. The decor was very nicely done with a vibe that was easy to feel and like. Jake walked us to our booth and talked to us about the menu. We asked for a taste of the French Rose and Jake quickly responded.
My wife ordered the Vodka A La Shrimp and I had a Caesar salad and the Eggplant Parmesan. The food was decent and the price was very fair.
The place was spotless and they were following all the covid safety requirements like masks, social distancing with every other table spacing and sanitizing all surfaces.
The staff, service and ambiance made our meal very enjoyable. You should go, but make a reservation since there are Covid seating limits. Thanks, Jake! Enjoy!
Enjoyed our meal and the service was great. We had been there some months before, and enjoyed it. Our coming back we were not disappointed. Just as good the second time.
The fried chicken that went with the chicken and waffles was undercooked. It was bleeding. They attempted to correct the error, but the second piece was just as bloody. The manager took care of my portion of the bill.
We were on 95 and decided to stop for a late dinner. Tarrant's Cafe came up in the search and so happy it did! Everything was delicious and will make a point to go again when we're on 95. We ordered buffalo cauliflower (the best!), chicken and waffles (the best!), and eggplant parmesan (the best!).
Would definitely recommend.
Municilal parking lot was only one block from the restaurant. The ambience of the restaurant was disappointing with a degree of mediocrity contradicting the expectation of a unique approach to a repurposed pharmacy store front. Staff were accommodating and pleasant. The menu has a large selection of fare leaving the patron without a sense of culinary expertise. A 90 minute limit to your dining experience is imposed for some covid protection is the policy of the restaurant. Food preparation was efficient making the 90 minute time limit irrelevant. The quality of our meals was above average but missed the mark in presentation. The restaurant was not busy making one wonder why the appetizer was served only seconds before the entrees. The pricing of menu items was reasonable. This dining experience was average but efficient and supported by pleasant wait staff.
The outside this restaurant was a bit questionable but when we got inside we were pleasantly surprised! We arrived almost 1 hour early for brunch, traveling from out of town, but they were able to accommodate us which we really appreciated!
Thanks for the review, Christine! I'm so glad you had such a great time with us and that the staff was so accommodating. If you're ever in town, come back and see us!
Food was excellent and served promptly. Server did a fine job and was very attentive. Always a bit quirky when booking with Open Table. Seems that we are often seated in a less desirable area of the restaurant. This time it was right next to kitchen so it was quite loud and heavy traffic.
Thanks for the review, Chris! Yeah, depending on the availability, Open Table will seat you where time limits work out (we have a 90 min time limit due to Coivd) which unfortunately leaves you with the luck of the draw. I hope you get some better seating next time. I understand how important that is!
Beth was amazing+
Food was phenomenal. The atmosphere was great and welcoming. Extremely clean and nice to see following social distancing guidance. Also Candace our server was the bomb, extremely helpful and friendly.
Thanks for the awesome review! I'm so glad you had such a great dining experience with us! We take our Covid procedures very serious. It's our priority to make sure our guests and staff are protected! I'll let Candace know to keep up the great work.
Enjoyed brunch, and our waitress Annabelle was wonderful!
Thanks for the review, Irvin! I'll let Anabelle know to keep up the good work.
Our server and the whole staff gave a reason to return and return frequently. The food was prepared nicely and we had a memorable evening. A strong option.
Thanks for the amazing review, Thomas! I'm so happy you got such exceptional service! We pride ourselves on good hospitality!
Thank you for the great review!
