Great atmosphere for connecting with friends I haven’t seen in over a year! Had much fun!
This was our second trip to Tarrant’s (first time for lunch and this time for dinner). We absolutely love the atmosphere and vibe of this place!
We sat at the bar both times and had wonderful, friendly service from the bartenders/servers!
We already had a few people recommended Tarrant’s to us and they did not disappoint. We sat at the bar, everyone was friendly, staff walked by and said hello to everyone. Downtown location matched the vibe inside. Copper ceilings, old school / retro decor. The food was great and the deserts.. the hardest part was trying to figure out what to get. The cheesecake was awesome. I would recommend anyone looking for a cool place to eat or have a few drinks to head there. Also, make a reservation if you can, they get busy quick!
All was good!
Enjoyable experience. Good was great. I had the blackened goldfish and it was delicious.
Always great food and service
So good! We had the mozzarella sticks, she crab soup, pizza, BLT and surf and turf. All of it was excellent. We also had the bread pudding and it was delicious! This family of 4 had a great experience.
This was a great experience. The food was excellent. There was a birthday party happening so on one side of the restaurant, it was quite loud. But we had the hostess sit us on the other side and that just fine. We had a Tempranillo wine with our dinner that was excellent. My wife got pasta Bolognese that was enough to share with her friend. They loved it! I got the seared Tuna appetizer for my meal that was also excellent. We finished the meal with a chocolate cannoli that we shared and loved. I got a cup on coffee that I enjoyed and went well with the dessert. The service was great tough a little slow. We were able to complete our meal in time to got to Va Rep play that is walking distance from Tarrant's. We highly recommend Tarrant's!
Very good food and Candice was outstanding taking care of us.
Disappointing that they were out of the garlic knots and crab cakes.
Great Food 🥘 and Great Service . I highly recommend the appetizers. Calamari and shrimp 🍤
This was a great gem right located in downtown Richmond. Public parking was available close by. The wait staff were so friendly and took really good care of us. Highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner.
Food was good, but for $26, you should get more than 4 shrimp in a pasta dish. Most restaurants serve at least 6. Service was outstanding.
They sat us on time for our reservation. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful!
Great food and wonderful service on Father’s Day. Our family was greeted and served promptly, and the food was excellent. We will be back!
First time going to restaurant. Food excellent, very tasty
We went for brunch, the food was excellent and a great value. The service was great and timely.
Great food. Lovely service. Classic ambiance.
Thanks for the great review! We pride ourselves on good food and good service!
Birthday dinner. Love the vibe here. Ahi Tuna appetizer was perfect. Seafood entrees good but risotto took over the plate. Desserts were gigantic and very satisfying. Our server was attentive even though they seemed under staffed. All in all a nice celebration.
Thanks so much for the review, Clarkburg! The Ahi Tuna and so yummy and I absolutely love our desserts!
We loved the shecrab soup, the maui tacos and bbq ribs. Look forward to trying more on the menu.
Thanks for the great review, Pam! The She Crab Soup is definitely my favorite!
Our hamburger was both burned & cold when it got to the table. Fries were also cold.
Maybe they were having an off day, but our service was not very good. We had to ask for utensils, they forgot to being me my cup of soup (I had to ask for it AFTER I got my entree) and our server did not come to check on us to see if we needed refills or anything. The food was average at best which was disappointing because all of the reviews and pictures are good.
Great find just up the street from the convention center. The staff are so friendly and helpful. And the food was great as well.
Thanks for the great review! We pride our selves on good food and good and good service!
Have been many times. Food was great as always. Not very busy but a little loud. Server relocated us to a more quiet area. Ended with my 3rd wine choice as supply/inventory was low. Server did a nice job given the circumstances. Will be back. Hoping for a continued recovery.
Fantastic Place. Delicious food, great staff, warm and fun atmosphere. This is the first place I ate in Richmond and the first place I ate after getting my full vaccine dose.
Restaurant associates excellent service. Delicious food!
Thanks for the wonderful review, Cassandra. We pride our selves on good hospitality and equally good food!
Great experience with wonderful food.
We've gone to Tarrant's Cafe three times. The first time we really enjoyed it. This time, the food was subpar. We started with the caprese - which was the highlight of the meal. My wife got the filet ($30) and we're not sure what it really was - rubbery and tough. I got the chicken picatta ($20) and it was bland and contained 3 capers. The broccoli and mashed potatoes were good. The drinks and wine list are priced at a level which does not represent what the food and atmosphere delivers. The service was good.
The fish tacos are my favorite and once again did not disappoint!
Food was not the same as in the past. Had an all-around bad experience with food and service. A special request for the dining room area was not observed, had to sit in the bar booth which was unacceptable. I spoke with the manager the next day, as I was told no one was on duty Wednesday. Waiting to hear back from Joe to rectify this situation.
Really fun restaurant repurposed from an 1870s drug store. Seafood was excellent. Had a lovely time.
Son’s commissioning ceremony into the Army
A few years ago we had our first, delightful meal here. Since then, quality has been on a steep decline with this last meal ending as soon as the dinner plates arrived at the table - a sloppy, oily pasta mess and a gray shrimp and grits that honestly looked more like dog food than anything else. We sent them back and will not be returning. Such a shame.
Their bread is phenomenal!!! I was very pleased with the crab and spinach dip, the reuben was excellent as well. But man that bread with garlic and butter! Amazing. The server was kind and the overall vibe was pleasant.
This was a wonderful experience! And, a great way to spend Mother's Day. The ambience is superb. The food was 5 star. The service was above and beyond. I can't wait to go back!
Thanks for the wonderful review! I'm glad you enjoyed you Mother's Day and that the food was so great! We can't wait to have you back.
Great atmosphere, family friendly. My food was amazing. I ordered the surf and turf which was delicious. The crab cake was huge. I was impressed with the music, old school soul music. Definitely will be visiting again.
My wife and I were celebrating Mother’s Day. We had a. Delightful late lunch. We love Tarrant’s and plan to go again soon.
We went to Tarrant’s for the first time for Mother’s Day, and were so pleased. They were able to accommodate us in a booth and still maintained space at every other table. Even though it was Mother’s Day, the service was prompt and kind. The food was delicious, too.
Food was outstanding but waiter was not attentive to his job.
Do not judge a book by its cover. This place had very nice food, but I almost did not go because the front of the restaurant did not look inviting - it look outdated. However, the food was really good. I have very happy my dinner! So, I would definitely return. :-)
We had a decent time at the Tarrant’s: ambiance, spending time with my mother, not too busy; however, this experience being our first wasn’t the greatest. Both my wife and I ordered egg dishes (Eggs Benedict and the Benedict with a filet instead of ham). Both of us really liked the egg portions of the meal, but the potatoes served were very sub-par. They were dark, dry and somewhat tasteless. The best way to describe them is that we felt like we were eating potatoes at a bad buffet. My mother ordered the French Toast Foster; we all sampled it and had no complaints.
I am not saying the waitress was rude, but something was off because she presented herself as completely disinterested in our service. Can’t say she was dismissive, but certainly not engaging at all. I didn’t ask her if everything was okay, so she could have been having a bad day. However, when you are a “server” it shouldn’t appear that serving people is a pain in the butt. I don’t want to focus solely on her though because every employee we interacted with lacked hospitality skills, including the person whose job is titled “host.”
Overall I would rate the experience as a C-. It’s a cool location with a diverse and big menu...and the prices reflect that, but I wouldn’t pay those prices for the food and service again, when we could have eaten at the local breakfast spot near my mother’s house and paid 1/2 as much and had better tasting meals and better service.
Food + service doesn’t match the prices nor hassle of finding parking. We don’t live in the Richmond area so we will patron other restaurants while we are in town, but it was my mother’s second time in there and she mentioned that the food and service was a lot better the first time she went.
