While our welcome was semi-warm, when I asked the host if there was somewhere I could store my colleague's roller luggage he ungraciously pointed.
My colleague and I asked for butter and eggs to be omitted on our avocado toast and the waiter appeared visibly annoyed by our request. When he walked away the person eating with us even said: "it felt like he didn't like your request".
We then received out toast with eggs. They were taken away and returned 15 min later after our friend finished her food with no apology from the server. The only apology we received was from the poor guy rushing our new food out.
After initially greeting our party, our server forgot about us for a while. For several minutes we watched him bustle around empty tables, straightening silverware and napkins for no apparent reason. We gently tried to get his attention to no avail. Finally he came back. He forgot to bring the appetizer, which he didn’t notice until the main course arrived. The French fries, which came with the steak and which we were excited about, were soggy and tasteless. So disappointing, especially for the price. I live in the neighborhood and like to go to Tavern, but I think I’ll give it a pass for a while.
What a mouth-watering delicious dinner! I nearly had to chew the bone and lick the plate the food was so tasty. 100xs better than lunch. I look forward to returning again. It was the perfect dinner for that special out of town guest..
Love the restaurant. Was there twice this past week.
Over cooked food. Servers rushing to clear your plates before your finished. Expectations were at a huge low. Even the manager was pretentious. Never go back. Sorry Susan.
My first chair was dirty with food that had been spilled on the seat. When I asked for another chair, the server simply switched a chair at our table and left the dirty one for the next customer. It should have been removed. Service was poor and slow throughout our meal. Very poor attentiveness or checking to see what we needed. Noise level in atrium was overpowering and I have excellent hearing. The Tavern was a great disappointment to me as I have always heard such good things.
Great spot. Loved it. The food is incredible. Highly recommend
Tavern is one of the quintessential places in LA to celebrate with friends. We loved the seating for 7 and exceptional menu and food preparation. However our service professional was extremely ambivalent and absent most of the night. No hello, no warmth and no desire to engage. Not a worry as we’ve had many a fantastic service experiences, maybe just a bad day for someone. Tavern is to be recommended again and again for the enthralling ambiance and deliciously creative menu.
As always great experience.
Seats were stained, there was a huge bone in the duck confit. Used to love it. Feels like a place that’s about to close.
Great food and a star sighting to boot!!
Restaurant imposes a 3.5 % charge for empl benefits. I don't like it, especially from high-end expensive restaurants. I asked to take it off but it was still on the final bill.
Didn’t like the cuisine
Tavern folks were not on their game. We had reservations at 11:45 am for 8 guests. No one at the host station to greet us. We did not get served lunch until almost 1:00 pm. The room filled up quickly. (be prepared for your lunch crowd!) The air was not on and despite umbrella's in the room, it was HOT & sunny. They finally turned on the air conditioning but it did go off and we had to ask that they turn it on again.
The food can be tasty depending on what you get to eat. The greens as a "salad" were stalks of what I think were basil? I had full stalks... not pulled apart leaves. It was so careless and an after thought. A $36 lunch of steak frites should be a good portion of steak not 6 slices with some soggy fries. My plate was even missing the condiments. I had to ask for them.
We were so shoved together in the back corner that we couldn't move if we wanted to. My chair backed into an umbrella. No moving for me.
The bread/butter and salt were really nice.
The wines were way over priced. $75.00 for prosecco? Give me a break.
Sorry Tavern, I won't be back for a long time. Do you still care about the food and customers you serve?
We were there so long over 2 hours for a one course meal that we all had to pay for parking.
It was a complete bummer as I used to love Tavern. I think Tavern is over.
What a lovely lunch. Salads were divine, service excellent and lovely ambiance. A pure pleasure.
Grilled cheese and Snickers Bar desert were very good. The Pilgrim was disappointing. There was barely any meat, cranberry sauce or stuffing on the sandwich.
Unfortunately the Sunday brunch scene is a scene, and they don't take service and timely manner of food more seriously. We were a party of 6, we ordered drinks and took 25 minutes from the bar, we had ordered a cheese platter, that took 45 minutes, because I am sure the waiter forgot to put in when we ordered the drinks. Than our food took another 45 minutes, and they forgot my wife's avocado toast, and than took another 10 min to come. They only apologized for all the delays, but they should of done more. I would not go back there.
The food is great. My favorite item was the Halibut. Service was great as well.
Great spot for lunch or brunch. Menu has several options, service and food was just great. Give yourself a treat and stop in for a tasty, interesting meal!
I miss some of the old recipes. The seats are too close together, making it very difficult to carry on a conversation,
Service was average had to ask 4 times for more water. Very happy they accommodated bar menu in main dining room.
It pains me to give the tavern a one star review, but it’s the second time this month I’ve had Sunday brunch there and while the atrium is a beautiful setting, and the food is good, they just can’t get their service together and it spoils the entire experience. My husband dines there a lot on weekdays when they’re not busy, but they need to learn how to manage the restaurant on the weekends with a full house. No matter how nice the room is or how good the food might taste, Having to fight for EVERY SINGLE request from water, to jam for your toast (which apparently takes 15 minutes and when you get it your toast is completely cold), to even getting your check, when you have a 2 1/2-year-old who’s been very good and patient during a 2 1/2 our brunch ( would have been 90 minutes with decent service - Which brings me to a good point, if they hired the necessary staff, they could recoup that money by turning over tables much more efficiently). The unacceptably poor service just ruins eferything. I’m finished the tavern, at least on weekends - for good!
Great except:
The hostess gave us a wonderful corner booth area for my husband’s birthday. Then towards the end she sat 4 guys practically on top of us, next table. There was tons of other tables. She wrecked the intimate moment! I spent good money for this?
Food was good otherwise.
I don't understand the $6.00 charge on top of a $26.00 charge for 2 martinis. I should have protested more. The reason given was lame and made no sense.
We’ve been there several times. Never disappointed. Food and service have always been impeccable.
Never have been before nice place food was great I’m going back for dinner.
I sat at the bar on Thursday and quickly ordered some happy hour food which was great, a charcuterie platter, followed by their DineLA menu. I came with a friend so we each had a different option from the list to try out.
The food was all delicious. I really enjoyed their salmon.
And i also got the pleasure of meeting Christiaan the BarChef. His service and conversation were phenomenal. It really was the cherry on top of the experience.
Everything was great, the place is huge and beautiful, the bar’s very nice. It’s not too loud, food came out quick, drinks were amazingly good. Nothing to complain about. The bar has been set very high after this great time.
I look forward to coming back
The menu can use a refresh with some simpler fare. I go for the vibe in the quieter dining room, but usually have to choose something I’m not excited about eating.
The market salad was really good.
I chose the salmon which was also good but there was nothing else on the menu I would have chosen.
But I will keep going back to this neighborhood staple.
Everything (services, food and quality) was quite good, but everything is overpriced due to its location (Brentwood).
Tavern is a beautiful restaurant. The food is excellent and so is the service. I had the fish tacos, and they were delicious.
Great all around
Ordered the burger. MEDIUM. Came out WELL DONE. Could not eat it because to dry... Didn't have time to wait for another.
Food was really disappointing as were the cocktails. Both missing distinctive taste
Great atmosphere, good food. Food takes a really long time but still enjoy this place.
David, our server, was lackluster. Saw him twice in the 1 1/4 hours we were there — once to take our order, and again to clear my plate and take my credit card. Oh, a third time when he brought the bill. The bus boys showed no follow-through — I put in 2 requests for water without ice and 3 requests for tea at the end of the meal.
My friend and I went for DineLA. We both loved the Larder board. I was a little disappointed with the brisket. It appeared dry and wasn't as tender as I am accustomed to. It wan't intolerable, but had the waiter come back I would have asked for more sauce. The sticky toffee pudding was eye appealing and tasty.
We arrived early for our 1:30 lunch reservation and while there were many open tables, the host said we would have to wait 20 minutes and to wait at the bar (it seemed as if to punish us for being early). We said we’d wait in the entrance area and about 5-10 minutes later a hostess sat us. He was very unwelcoming, almost rude. Our waiter was unfriendly, seemed like drudgery for him. Had to keep asking for water, as they were not forthcoming in filling our glasses. Food was mediocre at best. Chicken overcooked, hazelnuts competed with flavor of salmon. We won’t be back.
We have gone to Tavern since it opened. This last meal was disappointing. The service was spotty -- multiple people, and took a long time to get the simplest thing-- like leveling the table (had to ask 4 different people) was an effort. For the price, something like that should not be. The food was okay-- not great. Ordered the Devil's Chicken-- a favorite dish-- which I have eaten many times there. It was mediocre. Flavors not up to snuff. Tasted as if it had a pre-cooked chicken and was slathered with the mustard - -minus most of the mustard-- breadcrumb coating, the vegetables thrown in and then shoved under high heat. Had very little flavor. This is one of their signature dishes and known for its flavor and succulent chicken. It had none of that this time. Underwhelming for $28. Tavern has somewhat of a captive audience due to its location-- but it should not be resting on Suzanne Goin's laurels. They need to step up their game at this location. Yes, it was a Monday evening, but if you can't do it right, don't open on Monday and save our money.
Good food👏🏻, great atmosphere. It was a bit cold in the restaurant but as soon as mentioned, they warmed the restaurant.
Food is always good
Will be back soon
We were very surprised to be seated in the bar with sports on tv & a much higher noise level - with our reservation. We asked for a table in dining room, but waited almost 30 minutes before we were moved. We were told that a reservation “does not guarantee seating in dining room”. If that is the case, we would have gone elsewhere to begin with. This was not the experience & dinner we had hoped for tonight. :/ Ruined it for us. 👎🏻 the food was delicious as always, however.
