Sunset Hour - "The Best Happy Hour in Town"
The host at the door was robotic and rude. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived and she used the excuse that she wouldn’t seat us as one of the party hasn’t arrived. They arrived 6 mins late. We asked if we could be seated or at least order a drink whilst we wait and the host said that she didn’t have the authority to answer that question. We were seated 55 mins later than our reservation and was told by, what seemed to be a manager, that the time of the reservation doesn’t mean it’s the time we’ll get seated but means that we will get seated this evening but we have to wait it for the guests to finish their meal. Only once, after a major prompt, did the manager apologise. This was below par on the service front and very poor for such a lovely restaurant.
The server once, we were seated, was an absolute joy and the food was incredible. It really is a gorgeous restaurant and was unfortunate that we had an awful experience before we got seated.
The reservation was at 7:30 they took us to table at 7:40 they brought one of the foods after 15 from the other food and also was cold they have wine listed in there menu with price in the end when i asked for check I noticed they charged me double of the price i asked the waitress she said oh we brought you the other kind i was like it would be nice if you would tell me the price so definitely i will not go back and I won’t recommend to others
The food took awhile to get out due to a misprint. The food was hit or miss but overall good. Great atmosphere!
Sat us 30+ mins after reservation time, drinks came after food, servers were hard to come by, added 20% gratuity to a party of 4 without asking.
Its a second bad experience with service in 2 trips and i will likely not return despite the good food.
Got seated right away, nice ambience, delicious food, and good service! Will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend for date night. You have to get the bone marrow bucatini, 10/10!
Great food with a nice wine list. Attentive service. A little loud on Sunset but overall good place.
Extremely poor service. Snappy, not friendly and not helpful waitress. Runner and busser did everything for us and provided great service. I don’t know if it’s their policy since is not disclosed, but she included a 20% gratuity on the bill... which is fine if you At least work for it! The food on the other hand was phenomenal.
Went for a belated birthday dinner. The food, drinks, and outdoor seating were outstanding. The sunset hour cocktail pricing was a great surprise. We were warned when we ordered our food might not come our coursed, just "as ready" from the kitchen. Not a problem. Still came out perfectly timed. We will definitely be back!
The food at Tesse was amazing. Our server was great and the hostess was sweet. I brought a few friends there to show them the restaurant since I had gone once before and loved it. The only thing I can say I wasn’t happy with was the fact that my friend, a sommelier, picked us out a nice bottle of wine only to have it brought to the table already decanted without anyone presenting it first. I was a tad upset because I had told them such good things about the restaurant and then that happened first thing. When we asked why it had come decanted we were told a few different things. We were told by their sommelier that it was for optimal tasting, which is true, but didn’t explain why they decanted it without presenting or asking if we wanted it decanted. The server told us they usually do present the bottle, and then take it in the back to have it checked and decanted. The manager told us it was something enforced by the CDC due to Covid, to limit interaction between staff and guests. They did not know it was a table of people who work in the service industry, and a sommelier who knows correct protocol and presents hundreds of bottles of wine a day. Unfortunately that did put a damper on an otherwise great meal. To order a $100 bottle of wine and have it brought to the table already open was a little unsettling, and unprofessional, given that we had no way of knowing if we got what we paid for. The wine however, was delicious. Luckily my friend could tell it was the correct wine and we were able to enjoy it.
Excellent service outdoors with good social distancing and extremely pleasant waiter! Enjoyed the cauliflower and the cod special of the day with couscous was extraordinary!!
Love this restaurant - more limited menu due to Covid, but amazing sunset hour deals and delicious hummus!
The vibe was dope. The service was great -- the food and drinks kept rolling out. The server/ wait staff were very friendly and engaging with our group which made it fun. Really good drinks and wine list. The outdoor seating was a plus. Would definitely come back.
An absolute treat to dine at Tesse. Great food, lovely outdoor dining on the plaza and fantastic service. We'll be back.
Had a fantastic time dinning at Tesse. We were here when it first open in Summer 2018. We had the high top table for two in the patio overlooking West Hollywood. Was very enjoyable.
The desserts were the highlight of the evening. Had the strawberry tarte and vanilla soufflé. We will go back just for these!
We went there for truffle pasta - it was too salty and killed the taste of the truffles. Almost a $40 truffle pasta dish should be a perfection, which the pasta that we had was far from. Wouldn't go back.
Brunch menu was extremely limited. I got the prix fixe which included wine, a pastry, a plain omelette with a dollop of creme fraiche, and a pancake for $18. These items were also available a la carte one the limited food menu. The food was underwhelming. The outdoor seating lacked a vibe. I’d skip brunch here but maybe dinner is good.
Beautiful place, friendly staff, quick service. I really liked everything, I could only maybe wish for a bigger brunch selections. Drinks menu is huge though :)
We are truly lucky to have Tesse in our neighborhood. The food and service are world class, yet it maintains the warmth of a local hangout. Tesse has also done a remarkable job of reinventing itself building out 2 distinct and both beautiful outdoor dining areas each with its own personality.
Christopher the manager and the hostess were both super warm. Christoper understands the difference between customer service & hospitality, and he scored high marks in both. Andy, our sever, was confident and friendly as well.
everything was more than tasty. Also our waitress was very helpful for choosing low carb cocktail.
This place is better than ever. Love the outdoor dining that they've created out on the plaza. Hope it stays even after indoor dining reopens.
one word: Dumangin
Jacob our server was attentive and great. Food came out fast, it was hot and delicious. Recommend the peach dessert... outstanding!
Duck fat fries were delicious. Our main entrees were so-so. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing on the menu? Cause it didn't justify the price. Their cocktails are more focused on presentation than the actual drink itself. Mine was too fruity / sweet and my boyfriend's was just straight liquor. Overall, this $117 dinner was not worth it. Staff / Ambience were nice, however.
First time visit at Tessee.
We were positioned on the road edge on Sunset Blvde and extremely noisy.
Drink service 20 minutes from when we ordered and that delay continued throughout the night with last drink taking 25 minutes.
Initially the food was very tasty but when the Steak came out it was too rare for us, even though we asked medium well.
The steak came back after 20 minutes and was unpalatable. It was so tough and full of grizzle, I told the waitress to take it back.
Overall very disappointing, and the waitress apologized.
Excellent once again. Nice outdoor seating area for COVID-19 dining.
Friendly service. Great tasting food. Appreciate the covid improvisation with the outdoor seating - albeit loud from all the douchebags in their Ferrari’s going down Sunset. :). Loved that they feature Happy Hour specials right at your table btwn wed-wknd so we got to dabble in both the HH menu and the regular menu. We had the rock cod (market fish) and steak frites. Both were excellent. And my friend and I have been super strict on this no carb diet for a month now....but we broke that for the duck fat fries that came with the steak. And we both agreed that it was so worth it. Love Tesse. Def plan on going back.
I was a little taken aback when I received the bill. After you pay the tip and total amount there is a section at the bottom of the bill that states that a 5% charge has been made to help pay for employee health insurance. You have the option to remove it but I didn't even notice this, my spouse did. There is no mention of this anywhere except on the bill. The waiter didn't inform us of this either. Whether you would support this or not I think the customer would appreciate knowing this up front. It's almost as if they are trying to sneak it by you.
We were amazed by the dine LA menu and our waiter was super nice.
The server was overwhelmed serving many tables. We kept waiting for him to come back to check to on us each time we needed something.
Food is good. Some items we didn’t care for but could be our taste. Definitely not enough vegetarian options
Fast service, nice outdoor seating area. Well written exciting menu but disappointing food. High price for a try to be a complexity cuisine.
One of the best restaurants in LA...... highly recommend it.
I regret a bad review but for the price I didn’t think the steak wasn’t worth the price or the short rib or the insects that invaded the table or the noise from the traffic next to the table on Sunset.
The cheese and meats were fine but again nothing to write home about. Service was fine and I did buy the bread to take home made by a husband and wife but I spent 250 the night before at Harlowe and 250 at Tesse and comparing the two, Harlowe was a better value, better ambiance and a higher quality of meat. Also while the street noise on Santa Monica Blvd was evident - it wasn’t as bad as the cars speeding up and down Sunset. I won’t return until covid ends and see if it’s better in doors but eating on sidewalk when it’s not Paris or a quieter street isn’t worth it
Tesse is great; drinks/food/service ... everything is on point
Best value for brunch in town, hands down.
Omelette, pancakes, 2 glasses of champagne, croissant and 2 iced lattes for 30 something bucks.
We waited a long time for our table but I liked the service.
Jordan goes above and beyond to ensure every guest is taken care of, and he’s the owner! Food quality is A1 and customer service is impeccable from the time you walk in til you leave.
